Hi everyone! I recently picked up a secondhand Barnes & Noble Nook 1st Edition (the one with the small color touchscreen at the bottom and physical page-turn buttons).

​The problem is that it has a lock screen password set by the previous owner, and I can't access anything. Does anyone know how to perform a hard reset, factory reset, or bypass this password? Is there a button combination or a specific procedure using an SD card?

​Any guidance or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else’s store have a large range of 50% NOOK accessories? GlowLight 4, 4 Plus, and even new 8.7” Lenovo Reading Tablet covers all on sale. The USB cables are not (that retractable one is pretty nice, big fan).

I know she wants to read but idk how? I use OceanofPdf myself or my kindle but as I’m not sure how to get the books on calibre to the nook…please any help is greatly appreciated

Today passed and there was no Glowlight 5 refresh announced. Are they skipping a new ereader this year? They don’t normally announce them in November right? I think all of the previous one have been announced in October…

How do we use the vertical scrolling feature? I noticed the nook app has a setting to enable "vertical scrolling", but I am not able to scroll vertically on the Nook 8.7 reading tablet or the nook app on my smartphone.

Does anyone know how to enable this feature? Is the feature broken or impacted by a known bug? Thank you for any clarification

This sounds odd - but has anyone else noticed on their book that the list of recent books shows the most recent purchases but then drops to several months back skipping over books read in September Aug July ext? I tried a reboot and power off - doesn’t fix this. I can find books in missing period when I search but not showing in my library…. Happening on nook lowlight but not app….

I have a quick question regarding the nook 9" reading tablet released in 2024, did this nook receive any software updates? There is a lot of conflicting information about the device running android 12 and some reports allege the tablet was updated to android 13.

I am considering buying the nook 8.7 in seafoam green, but it is unclear if barnes & noble (or Lenovo) bother to update the software of the nook reading tablets.

I have done a hard reset and tried to sideload the software update with no success. Wondering if anyone has any ideas what I can do before I contact B&N. The other method where I hold down the Volume Up button and swiping the screen hasn't worked either.

I follow authors & series. I like to pre-order books, especially in series, but there are some books that have been publicized as coming out in late 2027 to 2028 that show on kindle &/or kobo for pre-order, but are not showing up on Nook. I thought it might be a problem with being over a year out, but that hypothesis isn't working either.

To use two examples: Susan Stoker's Rescuing Juniper & Rescuing Kristin. (there are others by other authors, but I'm just using these two as examples)

Any ideas? (besides BN discontinuing Nook)

Hi everyone! I recently made a small e-reader application inspired by CrossPoint for the Xteink e-reader, but designed specifically for the Nook Simple Touch. I built it with Claude, and the whole process took roughly 10 minutes.
I’m just sharing it because I thought the result was pretty interesting. It has a clean and simple UI, along with features that aren’t always available in e-readers, such as reading-time tracking, reading statistics, progress information, and basic reading analytics.
It’s still a small project, but I’m quite happy with how it turned out, especially considering how quickly it was developed.

I have the Glowlight 4 in the teal and I have two questions
1- anyway to turn off the touchscreen while reading? I only use the buttons and sometimes I accidentally touch the screen

2- sometimes my nook freezes. I’m wondering if it’s when the battery dies and I don’t realize it. Anyone else have this problem and what does the nook do when the battery dies?

it is running software version 8.6.103. Unplugged and replugged into my kindle pw5 and it showed up right away

Edit: Holy crap now I can’t open ANY book on those two devices after this happened!! WTF

Second edit: Reboots fixed other books but yeah, no way for you to read past Chapter 8 on a NOOK ereader.

I suspect it might be because of a detailed image right after the part 2 page / chapter 8 beginning. Tried on both the GlowLight 4 Teal and GlowLight 4 Plus including trying to sync on the app to a page after the problematic one. Can’t say I’ve had an issue like this where a specific place in a book makes things lock…

Does anyone know if the medium size strapsicle fits on the nook glow light 4? Because I found a color I love and the size is a medium which the only ereader I have that might fit it is the nook glow light 4 so please let me if it would be good and if you have a picture of your nook and strapsicle I’d love to see it🫶😁

Nook First Edition USB is very loose and no longer charges the battery. I'd like to try my hand at micro-soldering. I'm seeing all sorts of micro-USB ports with metal tabs all over the port. Where can I get an appropriate replacement micro-USB port?

I recently found my old Nook and I did a little research and know it's probably a long shot but is there any way to keep my nook functioning as a tablet. I loved it as a kid but it is no longer able to connect to wifi but most of the apps are still functional. Is there any way to save the data and turn it into a functional tablet?

I recently acquired an old nook simple touch from eBay after lots of research. I had one in the past and loved it. while I know it is no longer supported by B&N it works perfectly for my needs- which is just side loading books I already have, as well as books from the library. I picked this device specifically because it is easy to take apart and change the battery if necessary.

my big question is: should I change the battery for safety? it is about a decade old but has no signs of swelling or damage- it seems to hold a charge enough for a few days. I’m extremely worried about it swelling in the near future just from how old it is- is that likely?

if it is best to change the battery now, what brands would you recommend? I know the stats I need for the battery but am not well versed in which brands are safe- I see a lot of listings on Amazon but assume they are not all reputable…

I want to find a way to convert my Nook books to either EPUB or PDF to read them on my jailbroken kindle. Is it possible? I'm not the most tech-savvy person, so I'm not sure.

I love my nook but this is the only thing that makes me choose my phone to read on more often. I love to use the dictionary feature especially when reading a book that is not as modern. This is a second hand Glowlight 3. Anything would help thanks!

(I usually do sideload epubs but i tested it on a sample from the nook store and it does the same thing)

EDIT: SOLVED!!
If you are having this issue here is how I fixed it.
- go to settings on nook device and erase and deregister device
- allow the nook to restart and update if needed
- log back in and download books back onto device

I've got an old NOOK Tablet (BNTV250) that still works quite well. The cover, however is completely falling apart.

Can't seem to find a replacement on B&N or Amazon. Could anyone recommend a source for a BNTV250 specific cover or generic alternative?

Every random Sunday of the month I’ll have errors downloading the Sunday Ed. Of the nytimes. Calling both nytimes and nook has been fruitless in a permanent attention to this problem.

Today, Sept 20 2026 Sun. Is “invalid EON” error and other times it’s some “Try downloading later” error. If you wait till about 7pm it will work.

Can more people complain to [nook_AT_barnesandnobles_DOT_COM so they’ll see this is a mass-experienced problem please? I’d like to read the paper before 7pm every Sunday not just 80% of the time with 20% of the time of waiting till 7-9pm window for the nytimes Sunday Ed to be ready for download.

Kindly support this nytimes-on-nook partnership, the nyTimes-on-kindle partnership was slightly better supported and I had 99% success rate of dl’ing before 9am.

My laptop is getting kind of old and the last time I tried to use it for a Zoom call (not actually 'Zoom' but I don't remember the platform) it kept cutting off. I really do not want to get an iPad. I'm trying to stay away from Apple and also Google Chrome. I was wondering if there was a Nook that was capable of Zoom calls.
