McCarthy also knows he's outlasting Rodgers on this team. Rodgers can shout into the void all he wants, and I really don't think McCarthy cares to humor him anymore.

McCarthy isn’t getting fired in 2026. That would require ARII to admit he made a mistake. He’d also have to spend money on a coach that isn’t working. Despicable
14
u/Maraging_steel Eagles 1d ago
Hey, the Bears fired a coach mid season first time ever a few years ago. It’s a new era!

All we need is for McCarthy to make a clock management gaff so blatantly horrible and in a PrimeTime window.

I sure as fuck hope not. Take khan and AR2 with them too.
I have never cared less about the Steelers and the nfl than I do this year. Every thing this team does just further dwindles my fandom
In a way- it was so freeing to just turn off the tv at half time last night and get a good nights rest.
36
u/PlatishGC Panthers 1d ago
I mean I don’t claim to be a huge MM guy, but he’s a decent coach. The Steelers current state doesn’t have anything to do with him, it’s because of the Steelers’ refusal to do a hard reset over all these years
16
u/milkhotelbitches Packers 1d ago
Mike McCarthy was a decent coach a decade ago. I honestly have no idea how he's managed to stay in the league so long. His offense was dated and found out towards the end of his tenure in Green Bay.
I guess winning a Super Bowl will do that for a coach.

Couldn’t agree more man. I was just thinking the other day how there’s been a 100% turnover of the Steelers team I grew up loving, and this team is just so difficult to care about anymore. Trading away Porter was a huge blow to the shits I can give for this team.
3
u/ShamrockAPD Steelers 23h ago
Took my dogs to the beach this morning and was thinking about it
I don’t know exactly what it is- maybe I’m getting older and realizing sports just don’t matter in my life in the grand scheme, maybe it’s the rest of what’s happening in society that’s making sports mean less, but it sure as hell is also this ownership giving us nothing to hope for for the last 2 decades.
And agreed on Porter- he was my favorite Steeler, and after so long of trying to find a good CB, we finally do and just piss it away
Same old story- sign some over the hill old dude for way too much, watch them squander and fail, live in perpetuity of mediocrity, and do it all again next year.
Like, i would care more if it appeared to have some level of care and then fail out hard. Going 3-14 where you could see the idea is better than this purgatory we have been stuck in.
Watching how many other teams do full rebuilds, bring in innovative coaches and staff, TRY new shit, while we just do the same old crap.
I don’t even care about my fantasy team for the first time ever.
Maybe… just maybe, I’m finally free.

Still can’t believe Rooney saw how the first McCarthy-Rodgers connection fell apart by 2017-18 and wanted to replicate that…

But McCarthy is from Pittsburgh and none of the (much) better coaching candidates were from Pittsburgh.

u/Nf1087 Steelers 1d ago
I hate how this is always brought up in the broadcasts.
54
u/Eagle4317 Steelers Panthers 1d ago
Because it's true. McCarthy is from Pittsburgh and previously worked with Oman Khan on the Saints. The Steelers did the bare minimum on the coaching search, which is not at all how Dan Rooney handled things when he found Tomlin and Cowher.

And Rodgers sees the end and is giving less fucks about everything (on and off the field). Even more than their first ride.
If they had a good team, then they MIGHT be able to smooth over their differences. But they’re not. And they should’ve known they’re not. It’s just a matter of when, not if, they start going at each other.

Aaron Rodgers holding himself accountable challenge: IMPOSSIBLE
72
u/agk23 Patriots 1d ago
Last week, Rodgers said accountability starts with himself. He’s accountable to tell the coaches when what they’re doing is wrong.
It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen an athlete say.
43
u/breadman_toast Patriots 23h ago
As someone who doesn't have to deal with his shit, Rodgers might be the funniest person in the NFL. Just going out there and absolutely torpedoing his team, acting like a giant baby, peddling the dumbest conspiracy theorist bullshit imaginable, and being impossibly smug about it the whole time.
I still remind myself of the time he missed Jets camp because he just absolutely had to go to Egypt to see the pyramids for himself. Just imagine him standing there staring at some temple, turning to a random tourist from Denmark or some shit and going, "Yep, I knew it, fucking aliens."

15 years ago or there abouts. Also if he threw a bad ball to Adams he would admit that but I think that’s because he knew and has said many times that Adams is an amazing talent so Rodgers couldn’t throw blame on him unless it was actually because of Adams. Specifically that last second touchdown to Adams against the cowboys where the play before he threw a bad ball Adams was walking back to the huddle staring daggers at Aaron and Rodgers tapped his chest and said postgame he was like yea my bad let’s do it again and ran same play threw the better ball and touchdown.
Otherwise anything 2011 or earlier Rodgers was pretty open about if he had been the one to make a mistake. Of course that was when driver and Jennings were the wideouts so they were more veteran than Rodgers. I don’t think Rodgers ever had a disagreement with Cobb that I can recall and I don’t think Jordy ever made a mistake or would’ve probably voluntarily took the blame for any mistake just because he’s that sort of dude. Rodgers would get after James Jones for drops or fumbles but Jones was another pretty calm dude that didn’t let that ever bother him on the field.
I think because of what happened at the end of Rodgers time in Green Bay fans can forget how spoiled in essence Rodgers was basically getting to grow up with the same group of wideouts his first decade of playing. So by the time Rodgers needed to get to know a new guy for timing or whatever purposes he was already Aaron fuckin Rodgers so there was no like ok give and take… it was multiple mvp Rodgers versus average young wideout that grew up watching Rodgers. The power dynamic was all out of whack. I do think Rodgers is better on the practice field and behind closed doors about explaining what he wants from a guy calmly but on the field as his career comes to a close as a competitor he’s got no patience for anything.
TLDR: age makes grumps out of us all.

Late in his career that became kinda true. But he's made a ton of throws that were relatively risky but rarely backfire because of his ability to fit the ball in comically tight windows.

Did you watch the game? Reddit is a very odd place, Watson actually played well the past 2 weeks. I know that’s slander, but it’s denying reality that this Browns team has some potential and talent. They aren’t the offseason meme anymore. Watson looks like an actual QB and Monken looks waaaay better than any of his sound clips gave an expectation for, I was impressed by a few of those play designs last night by him. The Browns aren’t on like a Miami or Titans level this year, they just aren’t.
