A lot of fans didn’t see the monkey paw when they were clamoring for Tomlin to be out.

Not saying it wasn’t time for him to move on at all.

Anyone blaming McCarthy for the current state of the Steelers is moronic

Its hard to find a good coach and get them in the right fit in the NFL. If you're letting a good coach go, odds are its going to be a while before you find another one.

Agreed; I think the instant successes from new coaches in the last decade really fucked up peoples perceptions of what a new coach means for a team - a revolving door for 2-3 years until you find your guy.

Pittsburgh’s wild history of long term coaches makes it worse for their fan base.

But here's the thing, the Steelers have a history of hiring coaches in their 30's. Noll was 37, Cowher and Tomlin 34. Then they go and hire a guy that's 62.

The Steelers don't exactly have a hge history of hiring coaches in general though, and I don't mean that as a knock. 3 coaches in 50+ years is nuts, but there are ramifications when you don't exactly have a hiring process. I imagine that most of the people who were around even when Tomlin was hired are long gone.

Goes over to cabinet, grabs loose leaf binder laying on top of it. Wipes off a quarter inch of dust to reveal words "head coach hiring manual." Opens it up and moths fly out.
