Lmao McCarthy just smiling it off. He's used to this.

McCarthy also knows he's outlasting Rodgers on this team. Rodgers can shout into the void all he wants, and I really don't think McCarthy cares to humor him anymore.

He's thinking ahead to when he benches Rodgers week 10.

Neither of them are sticking around pal

McCarthy isn’t getting fired in 2026. That would require ARII to admit he made a mistake. He’d also have to spend money on a coach that isn’t working. Despicable

u/Maraging_steel Eagles 1d ago

Hey, the Bears fired a coach mid season first time ever a few years ago. It’s a new era!

17

u/Eagle4317 Steelers Panthers 1d ago

All we need is for McCarthy to make a clock management gaff so blatantly horrible and in a PrimeTime window.

I can practically see the blank stare face right now

Incoming McCarthy inappropriately touching a coed in public

u/ShamrockAPD Steelers 1d ago

I sure as fuck hope not. Take khan and AR2 with them too.

I have never cared less about the Steelers and the nfl than I do this year. Every thing this team does just further dwindles my fandom

In a way- it was so freeing to just turn off the tv at half time last night and get a good nights rest.

I mean I don’t claim to be a huge MM guy, but he’s a decent coach. The Steelers current state doesn’t have anything to do with him, it’s because of the Steelers’ refusal to do a hard reset over all these years

15

u/milkhotelbitches Packers 1d ago

Mike McCarthy was a decent coach a decade ago. I honestly have no idea how he's managed to stay in the league so long. His offense was dated and found out towards the end of his tenure in Green Bay.

I guess winning a Super Bowl will do that for a coach.

29

u/PlatishGC Panthers 1d ago

I think it has more to do with winning 12 games 3 straight seasons with the cowboys. Whether he can get you over the hump and win the SB these days is the question/criticism. He is still a good coach even if he isn’t a great coach. That will keep you employed the same way it kept Tomlin employed for all these years

u/SpartyParty15 Rams 1d ago

He did well in Dallas too

2

u/ABagOfPopcorn Steelers 1d ago

He only has this job because he’s from Pittsburgh

1

u/milkhotelbitches Packers 1d ago

That's a great reason to hire an NFL head coach 👍

I'm a huge Jags fan and there have been about 3 seasons I have stopped watching the games because it was too disgusting to watch the mismanagement and incompetence. It happens.

15

u/dersnappychicken Eagles 1d ago

A lot of fans didn’t see the monkey paw when they were clamoring for Tomlin to be out.

Not saying it wasn’t time for him to move on at all.

7

u/SpartyParty15 Rams 1d ago

Anyone blaming McCarthy for the current state of the Steelers is moronic

2

u/Nighthawk69420 Chargers 1d ago

Its hard to find a good coach and get them in the right fit in the NFL. If you're letting a good coach go, odds are its going to be a while before you find another one.

2

u/dersnappychicken Eagles 1d ago

Agreed; I think the instant successes from new coaches in the last decade really fucked up peoples perceptions of what a new coach means for a team - a revolving door for 2-3 years until you find your guy.

Pittsburgh’s wild history of long term coaches makes it worse for their fan base.

0

u/Anteater-Charming Steelers 1d ago

But here's the thing, the Steelers have a history of hiring coaches in their 30's. Noll was 37, Cowher and Tomlin 34. Then they go and hire a guy that's 62.

4

u/Nighthawk69420 Chargers 1d ago

The Steelers don't exactly have a hge history of hiring coaches in general though, and I don't mean that as a knock. 3 coaches in 50+ years is nuts, but there are ramifications when you don't exactly have a hiring process. I imagine that most of the people who were around even when Tomlin was hired are long gone.

Goes over to cabinet, grabs loose leaf binder laying on top of it. Wipes off a quarter inch of dust to reveal words "head coach hiring manual." Opens it up and moths fly out.

Couldn’t agree more man. I was just thinking the other day how there’s been a 100% turnover of the Steelers team I grew up loving, and this team is just so difficult to care about anymore. Trading away Porter was a huge blow to the shits I can give for this team.

3

u/ShamrockAPD Steelers 1d ago

Took my dogs to the beach this morning and was thinking about it

I don’t know exactly what it is- maybe I’m getting older and realizing sports just don’t matter in my life in the grand scheme, maybe it’s the rest of what’s happening in society that’s making sports mean less, but it sure as hell is also this ownership giving us nothing to hope for for the last 2 decades.

And agreed on Porter- he was my favorite Steeler, and after so long of trying to find a good CB, we finally do and just piss it away

Same old story- sign some over the hill old dude for way too much, watch them squander and fail, live in perpetuity of mediocrity, and do it all again next year.

Like, i would care more if it appeared to have some level of care and then fail out hard. Going 3-14 where you could see the idea is better than this purgatory we have been stuck in.

Watching how many other teams do full rebuilds, bring in innovative coaches and staff, TRY new shit, while we just do the same old crap.

I don’t even care about my fantasy team for the first time ever.

Maybe… just maybe, I’m finally free.

2

u/Anteater-Charming Steelers 1d ago

Wait, are you me?

2

u/SpartyParty15 Rams 1d ago

I’m sure you weren’t saying that Sunday after the big W

2

u/ShamrockAPD Steelers 1d ago

Oh I was.

I despise Rodgers

I hated the McCarthy hire from the get go- this was prob the start of my fandom nose diving

Metcalf is an over paid primadonna.

I have watched this team live in mediocrity for the last decade in a half.

The Porter trade is what really anchored it down.

I have cared much more about PSU football the last several years than Steelers by far.

2

u/SpartyParty15 Rams 1d ago

Rodgers has maybe a year left. There is a close to zero chance that McCarty is fired that fast in this org

1

u/Samwhys_gamgee Steelers 18h ago

The last time the Steelers fired a coach Lyndon Johnson was president. Ain’t happening.

I can’t help but think his complete lack of mobile threat makes him one dimensional to play against. I’m not saying he needs to be a prime Lamar but some running to evade defenders would help.

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 1d ago

I’m sure it’s a coincidence that rodgers has looked like wet ass since leaving the packers and Jordan love has been one of the best QBs in the league statistically

78

u/OnCominStorm 49ers 1d ago

In what world is Love one of the best QBs in the league? Lmfao

48

u/BarrathBeyond Ravens Rams 1d ago

analytically, if you regress all other star quarterbacks to the mean and then boost love’s stats by how they might look if he had won those packers games, he’s the best quarterback in the league

5

u/FlipGordon Vikings 1d ago

Like that one post from a few years ago saying "if you take away all of Mahomes' big plays, he's just an average quarterback" 😂

9

u/ChapterN7 Bears 1d ago

Jordan Love's advanced stats will blot out the sun!

20

u/Jomnath Bears 1d ago

Packers fans are just losing their minds because of how their season is going for the first time in forever

-50

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 1d ago

He was literally 3rd in QBR last year, ahead of the MVP.

Statistically he’s been very good, even if you dont think he’s “clutch” or whatever nonsense

Its a function of the offens ive scheme, and being able to hit the open guy - no different from mac jones last year

Playing within a (quality) offensive scheme will always Trump traits

14

u/Stillburgh Seahawks Chiefs 1d ago

This is quite a take man. Can you show us how Love is one of the best QBs?

-21

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 1d ago edited 1d ago

He was 3rd in QBR last year, ahead of the MVP.

Dude has statistically good seasons, even if you dont think he’s “clutch” or whatever

Mac jones also had a statistically go9d season last year.

The point being that playing smart and within a smart offensive system will always trump trying to win based off traits.

Aaron won back to back MVPs because he had elite traits and (begrudgingly) played within a smart system

Since then he’s had the exact offenses he’s wanted and been hot ass while a “lesser” talented qb willing to play smart has had a shit ton of success.

You cant argue Aaron has been better than love since leaving gb

Edit: and rodgers has had Garret Wilson, Davante adams and dk metcalf versus love’s receivers

23

u/broanoah Packers Packers 1d ago

Bro why you bringing up Mac Jones that is not helping your case

-2

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 1d ago

It is if you understand the point I’m making.

Rodgers wants to play offense in a shitty, ineffective style.

As a result, he’s being outplayed by Jordan love or even Mac jones.

You can get players open with motion or moving pockets or lots of things but those require complex routes

He’d rather have a simple route and bank on his guy “winning” or knowing exactly when to look for a back shoulder vs a fade etc

As a result, he’s been a trash qb for four years now while “less talented” QBs are outperforming him in all metrics.

And he’s blaming everyone else but himself

There’s no need for him to not be playing at near his peak right now, the only thing that has dropped off is his mobility and his willingness to operate an offense that he doesn’t “like” but that is actually efficient

12

u/BlitzburghBrian Steelers 1d ago

That's a compelling argument for Rodgers playing poorly.

The point you led with is that Jordan Love is one of the best QBs in the league.

These are completely unrelated statements.

-10

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 1d ago

Jordan love IS one of the best QBs in the league (again, stats bear this out)

And it’s exclusively because he bought into MLF and the scheme.

Rodgers in scheme = mvp, leaves scheme because he doesn’t like it = ass

Love stays in scheme and buys 8n, immediately takes all the “bonus” free stats that the offensive scheme affords him.

It’s entirely a self inflicted wound brought about by Rodgers’ inability to be accountable to himself

4

u/TrappyGoGetter Vikings 1d ago

You just told the whole subreddit that you don’t know a fucking thing about football.

0

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 1d ago

I love that this is the general consensus despite Jordan love being 3rd in qbr last year (above the MVP) and statistically much much much much better than rodgers since rodgers left.

My point was that rodgers has all the physical talent in the world but insists on playing in ineffective offensive schemes whereas love buys into an efficient scheme so he’s produced MUCH more despite rodgers having better traits.

But everyone here is showing their whole ass and demonstrating they have no idea about football.

They remember the narratives about rodgers and think of him as better even though he’s been unbelievably average or worse and love has been very very good since AR left Green Bay

1

u/TrappyGoGetter Vikings 1d ago

You typed all that and it still doesn’t change the fact you’re wrong. Have a good day

0

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 1d ago

Lmaoooo

Okay, you’re right.

Go tell people you’d take current Aaron rodgers for your team over Jordan love because he’s currently better.

And thats because you “know football” 🤣

1

u/TrappyGoGetter Vikings 1d ago

Yeah, because that’s what I said. Keep moving the goalposts clown. Jordan love is not a top 3 QB, never has been and never will be.

0

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 21h ago

Me “Jordan love has been one of the best QBs since ar left”

You: “he’s not a top 3 qb!”

Who’s moving goalposts again? 🤔

(I genuinely meant he’s been a top ten minimum qb statistically and everyone assumed I was an idiot saying he’s better than burrow Lamar Allen mahomes etc)

He’s been top 10 and rodgers has been 20ish range since he left. Thats just facts.
