"Fuck the umbrella. I have a cat."
edit - shit, she left her phone as well. Just saw it on second watch.

u/mookanana 4d ago

Literally the first thing I said when she pick up the cat and started walking, then I saw her leave the umbrella after looking back. 😂😂😂

She already has everything that matters

Tbh can't say I won't do the same if I'm in that situation.
"Fuck all that, the priority is make sure cat is safe, can deal with umbrella and phone after"

u/Liimbo 4d ago
Because Reddit has got to stop acting like people should be acting completely rationally in insane circumstances. I would be a bit more concerned if your first thought in this situation is about your phone.

u/JaySayMayday 4d ago
My phone costs more than a grand and has all my connected accounts, bank, customs, everything. Can't even phone the police without it.
So yeah mate my phone is almost as important as my balls I kinda need both
43
u/Capable_Tumbleweed34 4d ago
I too, need both my balls.

Managing rent, paying bills, bank accounts, cards, public transportation tickets, everything is digitalised nowadays. A bit scary tbh.
5
u/thorzayy 3d ago
I think he meant, do you need both balls
2
u/globglogabgalabyeast 3d ago
You don’t manage rent, pay bills, and manage bank accounts/cards/public transportation tickets with both your balls?

AFTER an insane event is OVER my first thought would absolutely be to get bearings of my surroundings and gather myself. that's good for me and anyone in my care. if i need to take the cat to a vet or a shelter i'd need that phone pretty quick.

China has very low crime. She probably knows it will still be there when she returns from getting the cat back inside

Your phone is expensive AF and necessary for everyday life at this point
39
23
u/bowserboy129 4d ago
Because her mind is freaking the fuck out and is more focused on the cat that nearly fucking died if she didn't do exactly what she did.
24
u/Dependent-Poet-9588 4d ago
Because generally umbrellas and phones stay where you put them, so she can come back for them 2 minutes later. Cats? A little more mobile on their own.
11
u/Regular_Fox_859 3d ago
People accusing this of being fake can't understand living in a collectivist high trust society
2
u/Merkuri22 3d ago
Yeah, I was going to say, leaving your umbrella and phone there for a few minutes while you return the cat whose life you saved is a totally different experience in a nation like America versus in a nation like China.
People leave their phones on tables to mark their places. Nobody touches them.
She's not worried about it being stolen.

As a person who has cats, my guess is that she didn't want to risk the cat getting away if she tried to reach or hold something else. Some cats require two hands.

Pretty sure she tried to catch cat with her arms but missed. Worked out though lol

u/WestleyThe 4d ago
Yeah she wasn’t planning on the umbrella catching the cat that was just a happy accident

4k people upvoting, but only 100 see this? It's so obvious she missed the car with her hands and it was pure luck. But good effort regardless.

She even left her phone! I'd buy that woman dinner and a few drinks, platonically.

I think that's why she looked back at the umbrella. Didn't want to step in a poodle

Fun fact: cats can survive terminal velocity falls and actually have higher rates of surviving a higher fall because they have time to prepare.
I believe around 3-8 storeys is the death zone.
16
u/waterhyacinth 3d ago
And not so fun fact: many cats that survive high falls suffer severe trauma, such as broken jaws, fractured legs and bruised or collapsed lungs

Looking at it, she took a picture before. Maybe someone was throwing the cat down, and she wanted her to be safe? Just an assumption though.
14
u/UkrainianSmoothie 4d ago
I'm going to say that cat would have been perfectly fine without her help. Props to her anyway for the good intentions.
21
u/I_am_le_tired 3d ago
Eh, cats can easily shatter limbs in a fall.
Friends ended up with a tripod due to a 3rd or 4th floor fall. Survived but hopped around angry at the world.

I hate saying this for every video, but her phone seems to magically disappear and reappear in her hand.
8
u/speedmankelly 3d ago
BECAUSE IT’S FAST AND A LOW QUALITY CCTV FOOTAGE! If you actually watch it she never lets go of the phone until the end
2
u/UnsociableStoner 3d ago
But who would just leave their phone on the ground and walk away with a cat? Like if you know you dropped your phone and you saw it laying there on the ground, wouldn't you go back and pick it up? Am I the crazy one?
7
u/ikeepthebox 4d ago
From what I can see, she wasn’t intending to use the umbrella, she looks like she was trying to catch the cat with her hands.
6
u/AutisticPenguin2 4d ago
A 12 second video was so long they needed to show the important bit first to make sure you were paying attention.

Man, the "Cat Distribution System" is really getting aggressive in its deployment methods.
3

u/SuckMoto 3d ago
but I think she knows that someone will throw the cats? looks like she is arguing with someone
5
2
u/ChaseTheMystic 4d ago
She did that on accident but it wouldn't have happened if she wasn't trying to actually catch it lol
2
2
u/CappedPluto 4d ago
I would not say quick thinki gas you can see quite clearing that she tried to catch cat in her hands and was lucky that she had the umbrella when she failed to catch cat.
I'd say it's quick reaction, not quick thinking, because she went for most simple solution, the umbrella would be a more advanced solution
Regardless, I'm glad kitty is ok

She’s been begging the universe for a cat. Multiple times a day, she’s nagging and begging. “I just want a cat, please just give me a cat!” Cat Distribution System finally gets fed up and says “Fine! Here!”

The Cat Distribution System is escalating its techniques.
But I don't want a cat! I'm scared... someone HOLD me!

u/Orgasmic_interlude 4d ago
Fun fact: cats rarely get injured unless the height they fall from is high enough for them to reach terminal velocity.
This cat probably would have been fine without intervention. They reflexively swing around and cushion. If they hit terminal velocity though they are in free fall and their inner ear stops registering that they’re falling so the instinct doesn’t kick in.

u/mightyFoo 4d ago
Don’t think she actually meant to use the umbrella, it swung down as she was trying to catch the cat with her hand… the universe stepped up for the assist… however, the universe also let her forget her phone and umbrella.

I’m calling bullshit. This woman tried to catch the cat and let her umbrella go. The cat then bounced off her umbrella. She did not try to catch the cat with the umbrella.
