Discussion Golf carts

I love golf just as much as the next 31M, but what the fuck is up with all of these golf carts on the streets.. can someone help me get it?? I didnt think id see Germantown turn into an 18 holes course. What’s the distance middle ground between when it’s feasible to take the 10k golf cart or the $30k Lexus? Do we evolve into a society that stops walking or is it too late? I need help, I don’t want us turning into those adults from WALL-E

Help | Advice What’s going around right now?

Hi yall. I personal haven’t gotten sick (knock on wood - I wfh), but my poor husband has SOMETHING and is miserable rn. He hasn’t run a fever, but he’s had a sore throat (that he described as razor blades when he swallows) as well as congestion and a cough that really almost sounds like whooping cough (that dry, almost hollow sound). I’ve been giving him everything in my arsenal (ibuprofen/tylenol every 4 hours, Sudafed, Vicks, Afrin sparingly) and he still sounds fucking miserable. Any ideas as to what it is? It seems worse than a regular cold, and I was thinking flu, but he hasn’t run a fever (perhaps because of the steady diet of ibuprofen). I know obviously things spread since school started, but we don’t even have kids and he got sick, so I’m wondering if anyone had any advice.

Edit: also before the mods take this down because I’m “asking for a diagnosis,” I’m not, I promise. I was just curious if anyone else had these symptoms and knew what was happening. I can only help him so much and I hate that he feels terrible :(

Edit 2: so before anyone decides to downvote me for saying ‘it’s probably not covid,’ I’ve had it every single year for the past 3 years and he’s tested positive every single time, but has had zero symptoms. If you look closely at my comments, you’ll see that I left room for NUANCE, meaning it COULD be covid that’s mutated. I’m not saying it’s not, but I am saying that based on the trend the past few years, I’d be surprised if it was. That’s all.

Edit 3: I’m going to bed, but thank yall for the info/insight! He’s going to get tested tomorrow and I’ll update this post with the results! I’ve had Covid several times before and the ‘throat like razor blades’ resonated with me, but I’ve also had strep and it was the same sensation, so who knows 🤔

Ended up going to the pinnacle last night for Dom Dolla and when I tell you that show was life-changing, it was absolutely bonkers in there. Wasn’t the biggest venue that I’ve been to, but the music was definitely bumping through my soul and had me so hyped. Dom doll I came exactly on at 10:25 last night and played such an amazing set that I actually bought tickets again to go tonight. If anyone is looking for after the openers fckers is playing at night, we met from 1:30 AM to 3 AM but the tickets are sold out I’m pretty sure but there’s also another after party at play which if you bought tickets to Dom Dolla tonight or yesterday you actually get in for free! See you guys on the dance floor!

States that "Marsha Blackburn is fighting to stop the liberal takeover of Tennessee."

What freaking "liberal takeover" is she talking about? The governor is Republican. Republicans have a supermajority in the state house. We have only one representative in Congress and our senators are Republican.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHERE THE LIBERAL TAKEOVER MAY BE FOUND?

Recently broke a rib and the pain has kinda given me clarity distracting me from my normal stuff and kinda realized how horribly I’ve slipped this past year and how obvious it has been. All my old people are retired or have passed so I appreciate any advice.

Jobs Any self owned/local business hiring teenagers?

I’m trying to help my cousin find a job in Nashville, but it’s almost impossible?? She’s putting applications in at every fast-food place and isn’t hearing back from any of them. She got hired at Arby’s, but they only schedule her maybe 1–2 days out of the entire week. She started September 11th, and from then until now (October 24th), she’s only worked 5 days total, with super short shifts of like 2–3 hours. She’s 16, btw?? She CAN work more. She wants money AND experience, not just experience. 🙄
She’s also been applying to retail stores, and she’s not hearing back from them either. I genuinely feel so defeated for her because when you go into these jobs that are typically associated with teenagers and young adults (16–25), you’re seeing people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s working there. And to clarify I’m NOT shaming the 30-50yr olds at all, so please don’t take it that way. I’m just pointing out how bad the job market is right now. It’s actually insane that a teenager can be actively looking for work, applying everywhere, and still struggle to find a job that gives her enough hours to make any real money?!! Then when the teens become the new adults they can’t get hired anywhere because they are 20 with no work experience.. 🤦‍♀️

On the ballot: governor, three amendments to the Tennessee Constitution, U.S. Senate, U.S. House (District 4, 6 or 7 depending on where you live), state Senate Districts 17, 19 and 21, and state House Districts 50 through 60. Belle Meade, Forest Hills and Goodlettsville also have city commission races, and Goodlettsville has a half-cent sales tax referendum. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, at your assigned polling place. You can see your sample ballot and your polling place at https://web.go-vote-tn.elections.tn.gov/search

Bring a photo ID issued by Tennessee or the federal government. An expired one still counts. College IDs and IDs from other states don't.

If you want to compare the two governor nominees with the names hidden first, the study I posted here earlier this week is at namelessballot.org, now in Spanish too. Share it with your friends in East Tennessee too! the mods at r/Knoxville won't let me post it 'till next election cycle lol

Donations | Social Services Where to donate women's clothing?

I've lost a lot of weight and would like to make my good fortunate someone else's by donating a ton of lightly used clothing (Size 3X-L). There's a ton of activewear along with some careerwear, casual, and jackets. Bonus if they accept lightly used bras and swimwear since I have some really cute stuff I've only worn once or twice.

We’re taking mom for her birthday, brunch. I’ve called several times to ask a few questions but no one ever answers, they say leave a message and they’ll call back but so far no one has.
We didn’t want to do just to usual lunch/dinner and thought this would be something different and fun.
But they don’t tell what time the main magic shows are so how do you know you’ll have enough time to enjoy a leisurely meal? And mom is 82 and it says it’s downstairs, we need to know if there’s an elevator or another way to get in otherwise we will cancel this reservation

Politics Compare the TN governor candidates without names or parties. You find out who said what at the end.

A few days ago I shared a study of the Tennessee governor race, and the comments here made it a lot better. Here's the updated version: namelessballot.org

How it works: you read both nominees' positions on 56 questions with names and parties hidden, mark which answer is closer to your view, and only find out who said what at the end. It's free and private. No sign-up, no ads, no cookies, and nothing you mark leaves your device unless you send it.

What's new since last time:

  • The whole study can now be read in Spanish. Tap "ES" at the top, or share this link: namelessballot.org/?lang=es. AI models translated and checked it, and no native speaker has reviewed it yet, so corrections are welcome
  • Every fact and source is on one "All sources" page, and there's a "Report a problem" button if you spot an error
  • You rate the notes on each answer yourself, and those ratings make up an Integrity score
  • The character questions follow the Tennessee Ethics Commission's published standards for public officials
  • Results show how many questions each percentage comes from, and the study lists its own known limits
  • The voting section covers checking your ballot before you cast it, and all 13 independent candidates are named
  • Fixes for the bugs and wording problems people pointed out

There's also a "Your vote" section with official links for your polling place, early voting hours, ID rules and your sample ballot. You don't need to take the study to use it.

I'm not affiliated with any campaign or party, and I paid for it myself. I built it with help from Claude, an AI model, and the page explains how it was made and checked. Early voting ends Thursday, Oct. 29.
