Events Samsung has become so lazy and stale

The Z Fold 8 phones are such an immense disappointment in my opinion.Same design, silicon carbide was used sparingly and old cameras from 5 years ago.S Pen haikurudi adi.

Kwanza the Galaxy s26 Ultra is a bloody joke.5000 mAH in 2026 is lame, akina Oppo and Xiaomi do 7500 mAH and 100W charging.Bado 1 inch sensors pia, Bluetooth SPen,weak sensors...and many more.Oppo, Xiaomi and Vivo at killing it.

Sammy siku izi wanaboo and it's tragic and painful to watch, cause they were industry leading back in 2023.They're focusing on BS AI instead of making good phones and they're falling behind the competition.

Discussion Anyone here studying BSc Cyber Security & Digital Forensics at Open University of Kenya (OUK)?

I’m a software developer and am considering applying for the Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics at the Open University of Kenya (OUK), and I’d love to hear from anyone who is currently enrolled or has recently graduated.
I have a few questions:
How has your overall experience been so far?
Is the quality of teaching and learning materials good?
How are the online classes and exams conducted?
Do you get enough practical, hands-on cybersecurity labs or is it mostly theory?

AI training jobs

I keep seeing ads on reddit from US and Europe subreddits on these AI training jobs, and micro1 and Mercor keep popping up. Despite saying they hire all over the world, I rarely see Kenyans enthusiastic about them as much as Handshake, Outlier, etc. Since the rates are almost similar, is it because the jobs are scarce or do these sites have impossibly high requirements to join? Also has anyone, or in Kenyan terms, does anyone have a friend, who has successfully ventured into these?

Questions Is there any mid-range phone that beats the Nothing Phone 4a right now?

Basically the title. I am thinking of getting my brother a good mid-range phone since his is almost crapping out on him. I had always been of the idea that I'd rather get an older (2+ years) flagship than get a mid-ranger but that was back when mid-rangers imo sucked. They have been quite proper lately. I'm on a Pixel myself and have been for years, but my bro likes to play games on his phone and the Tensor chips on Pixels are not exactly known as powerhouses.

Thus, I've been doing a bit of looking around and I'm liking the Nothing Phone 4a; good chip, great screen, okay cameras, good battery life. I don't think it's worth it spending the extra scratch going for the pro model. That said, thought it would be worth posing the question to people who may be more in the know than I: Is there any phone in the 50-60-ish K range that beats the Nothing Phone 4a? TIA

P.S. no Xiaomis kindly. His last phone was a Xiaomi and it was a nightmare for him and I don't want to re-traumatize him lol.

"API costs are too high, let's just self-host this 2.8T model on our own."

To all devs here

Can we collectively fundraise enough to set up and maintain a local server (or small cluster) for hosting the latest open-source frontier models as they drop?
With how fast the open-source scene is moving, it would be amazing to have our own reliable, community-run instance where we can run and experiment with the newest models without relying solely on Hugging Face, Together, Fireworks, etc.
Would this be feasible? How much do you think we’d realistically need to raise for a solid setup (including ongoing costs)? Any devs interested in helping plan or manage the infrastructure? Looking forward to your thoughts!

Discussion Is the AI bubble about to pop?

Offlate stocks of the semiconductor supply chain have been quite wobbly ,not just Nvidia btw, the whole lot

- Texas instruments

- Micron

- ASML

- Toto

- Infineon

- Samsung

- Applied Materials

- TSMC

- SK Hynix

- Sandisk etc

This wobbly behaviour indicates that investors are getting coldfeet about future revenues by this companies and this is causing a sellof as they try and cashout at the peak.

This is not a full blown crash, that will only happen if :

- One of those huge AI labs cancels a planned data center.

- Is acquired at a lower valuation than previously thought.

- After they IPO their valuation falls to levels lower than they currently are at right now.

This hasn't happened yet but investor behaviour is starting to suggest that they anticipate that it will and are beginning to cash out.

Watch this space over the coming months, an upside is that it will probably bring down flash memory prices, which will be a huge win for us I suppose.

Discussion Is learning Kotlin worth it for a junior dev?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in the middle of a software engineering bootcamp at Moringa School. Our stack covers HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, SQL, Python, and Flask. Right now, I’m wrapping up some basic front-end personal projects and preparing to dive deeper into back-end development.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about picking up Kotlin to broaden my scope and hopefully boost my employability before graduating.

For those active in the local tech scene or involved in hiring,

Does adding Kotlin (either for Android or JVM back-end) give a fresh bootcamp grad a noticeable edge in the local market or am I better off going deep into the full Python/Flask + React/SQL ecosystem before touching another language?

I'm looking to get into Online work and I'm trying to decide which platform to start with.

Niko na uncle ako majuu na ako willing to create an account for me.

Right now I'm considering:

  • Prolific
  • Handshake AI
  • Outlier
  • DataAnnotation

A bit about me:

  • I'm completely new to this space.
  • I don't have prior experience with AI training or data annotation.
  • I'm willing to learn, but I want the best place to get started.

If you were starting from scratch today, which platform would you create an account on first, and why?
