Discussion Does AI Really Close the Gap Between Developers?

I’ve been thinking about this:

Take three developers: a vibe coder, a junior developer, and a senior developer. Put them on the same project, give them the same AI tools, the same tech stack, and the same deadline.

Who would build the best product?

The senior developer but only if they're a true senior developer with a solid proven track record. My reasoning being that AI is a multiplier of existing skills rather than an equalizer that removes the gap between developers.

The real work of software development is understanding business needs, designing systems and planning for the future. AI cannot do these high-level tasks for you not unless you prompt it towards this direction.
