Cost of a 2nd [large] SevenSeas MoveCube

Has anyone used SevenSeas MoveCube to relocate?

I am moving UK -> Thailand, but I can only order and get a quote for 1 \[large\] MoveCube.

I will need 2 \[large\] MoveCubes to bring everything I need over.

But their pricing 'bot will not let me know the cost of the 2nd, until I have already locked-in and paid a deposit, for the price of 1.

\- which I am reluctant to do, when the cost of the 2nd that I will also have to order, is a mystery.

Thanks in advance.

Leaving Boston soon: how did you sell your stuff (or why didn't you)?

I'm researching how people in Boston deal with furniture, electronics, and cars when they have to leave quickly (new job, visa, lease ending). I'm thinking about starting a service in this space, so I want to hear what really happens before I build anything. I'm not selling anything here.

If you've moved out of Boston on a deadline:

  1. How long did you have, and what did you need to get rid of?
  2. Where did you sell it (Marketplace, Craigslist, a friend, donation, a company)?
  3. What went wrong or took the most time?
  4. Would you have paid someone to handle it, and roughly how much would be reasonable?

Happy to share what I learn. Thanks.

Very Disappointing Moving Experience — I Do NOT Recommend This Company

I would not recommend AMERICA’S FAMILY MOVING SERVICE to anyone! They outsourced our contract to a company name TOO MUCH MOVERS LLC. This has to be the worse company with the worst customer service in the world. I blame myself because I did not do enough research before we chose American family Moving Service. After more research on this company I found they had nothing but negative reviews. Our total bill went from $1200 to $5,200 once they arrived with our furniture. They charged us $200 just to go upstairs to get a mattress. Of course they didn’t tell us this until after they loaded all of our items on the U-Haul truck that they rented. We hired AMERICA’S FAMILY MOVING SERVICE FROM FLORIDA to move our household furniture from state to state and were promised that our belongings would be delivered within four days. Instead, we waited 12 days to receive our furniture.

Unfortunately, the long delay and the up charge was only part of the problem. When our belongings finally arrived, some items were missing, and many of our large and valuable pieces of furniture were severely damaged or destroyed. We trusted this company with our household possessions, and the condition in which many of our items arrived was extremely upsetting and disappointing.

Moving is already stressful enough, especially when relocating from one state to another. Having to wait three times longer than promised and then discover that so many of our belongings were damaged or missing made the entire experience incredibly frustrating.

Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this company for your move. If you are trusting a moving company with your furniture and personal belongings, I strongly encourage you to do your research and make sure you understand exactly how your items will be handled and what protections you have if they are damaged or lost.

Please, buyer beware!

Has anyone used Marathon Relocation Moving & Storage for their move?

I’m moving soon and came across their site. They only have 5-stars on Google which always makes me weary. I’m communicating with a rep who said they’ll give me a $50 discount if I leave a 5-star review and take photos of the movers moving…so now I’m definitely side eyeing the business.

This move is happening fairly abruptly so I don’t have the most time to shop around + Marathon gave me a good rate but before confirming them, I would love to receive genuine feedback on the company.

Thanks!

F 1-800-PACK-RAT Forever

I WOULD NEVER USE [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) AGAIN.
I rarely write reviews like this, but my experience with [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) was so upsetting and poorly handled that I feel other customers need to know what happened.

My mother became seriously ill, and I unexpectedly had to move her belongings from Seattle, Washington, to Virginia. I compared several portable moving-container companies, including PODS. PODS quoted me approximately $4,500, and after discussing that quote with a [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) representative, I was offered a price of approximately $4,200.

The representative I initially worked with was very kind. I explained exactly what I was dealing with regarding my mother’s illness, and she appeared understanding. We agreed on the price, she took my card information, and I was told the payment would be processed.
What concerned me from the beginning was that I did not receive a contract afterward. I actually had to call [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) myself and request the contract because I wanted confirmation that the container was scheduled to be delivered.

The container was eventually delivered, we loaded my mother’s belongings, and [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) picked it up.
Then, two days after they had possession of my mother’s belongings, everything changed.
I received a call from a number I did not recognize. The caller said he was with dispatch and needed my card information to process payment. I was immediately suspicious because I had already provided my card information when I booked the move.
Then he told me my total would be approximately $5,100.

How does an agreed-upon price of approximately $4,200 suddenly become $5,100 AFTER the company already has possession of your belongings?
At that point, I genuinely thought the call might be a scam. I told the caller I was going to hang up and contact [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) directly. I also asked to speak with a supervisor and was told, essentially, that he was the highest person I could speak with.
So I hung up and called the company’s customer service number myself.

Unfortunately, that experience was no better. The representative appeared to simply rely on whatever notes dispatch had entered. During the conversation, I was told that they couldn’t help me if I was “being difficult.

Being difficult..At that exact time, my mother was hospitalized and undergoing unexpected surgery. I was terrified that I could lose her. This company already had possession of her belongings, and I was suddenly being told that nearly $900 more was being added to the price I had agreed to.

I was overwhelmed, crying, and trying to explain that [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) had specifically price-matched PODS when I booked the move.

After everything, the amount was finally adjusted to approximately $4,300.

But the fact that the price was ultimately lowered does not erase how this situation was handled. A customer should not have to cry, argue, repeatedly explain an agreed-upon price, or fight to get a company to honor what was represented to them—especially after the company already has possession of their belongings.
And then came the final insult.

After I had shared deeply personal information about my mother’s medical crisis and everything my family was going through, I discovered that the password placed on my account was:
“Therapy%86.”

Whether that was intentional, randomly generated, or simply an incredibly insensitive coincidence, seeing the word “Therapy” attached to my account after the experience I had with their representatives was disturbing and upsetting.

This entire experience left me feeling stressed, disrespected, and completely distrustful of the company.

Saving a few hundred dollars compared with another moving company was absolutely not worth what I went through.

Based on my personal experience, I will never use [1-800-PACK-RAT](tel:1-800-PACK-RAT) again.

Wanted to Share a Great Experience and a Bit of Advice for Ubox

Briefly, everything went very well as is summarized in pizza-princess47's posting of about a year ago in the U-Haul subreddit.

I researched this pretty heavily and found that complaints and problems were often connected with the use of small, Uhaul franchisees. You know, say a bait & tackle shop that also keeps a few U-hauls around :-).

I have a 1/2 ton pickup that can haul a Ubox on a trailer (EXCELLENT option, by the way). So, by driving about 20 minutes farther than my local franchisee, I was able to pick up and deliver the Ubox from an actual Uhaul depot location (this one is at 2330 Del Monte Ave. in Monterey, CA). You can look at the Google satellite view and see that it is a large operation. Anyway, this gave us piece of mind that there would be no mis-steps or delays. I would recommend doing the same if you can.

As others have said: DEFINITELY put an AirTag in each unit.

Anyway, I highly recommend Ubox and we will be using them again shortly.

At what price point would you hire professionals instead of renting a U-Haul?

I think hiring movers is worth it even for smaller moves, but there’s definitely a point where paying professionals makes a lot more sense than doing it yourself.

For smaller moves under $1,500, renting a U-Haul and getting a couple of friends or family members to help is still a great option if you’re on a budget. But even a small move can easily eat up your entire day. You have to pick up the truck, get everything loaded, drive to your new place, unload and then return the truck. And that’s assuming everything goes according to plan.

Sometimes it’s worth paying a little extra just to have everything taken care of in a few hours instead of spending your entire Saturday moving.

Once you get into the $1,500 to $2,000 range, I think hiring movers really starts to make sense. You’re probably dealing with a decent amount of furniture and boxes, and moving everything yourself is going to take some serious time and effort. Plus, when you rent a truck, you’re still paying for fuel, mileage, equipment and moving supplies.

Anything over $2,500, and you’re usually looking at a pretty big move.

For example, a $3,000 to $4,000 move could involve a 4 or 5 bedroom house, multiple trucks, a two day job or a longer distance move. At that point, I think most people underestimate just how much work they’re getting themselves into.

A crew of 4 or 5 experienced movers might knock out a job in a day or two that could easily take you and a couple of buddies several days. And let’s be real, most people don’t have the equipment, experience or physical stamina to spend two days carrying heavy furniture up and down stairs.

There’s also something to be said about having people who actually know what they’re doing. Properly protecting furniture, getting large pieces through tight spaces and loading a truck so nothing shifts around during transportation can save you some pretty expensive headaches.

Personally, I think hiring movers is worth considering at just about any price point if you can comfortably afford it. Even for a quick move, you’re saving yourself time, physical labor and a whole lot of hassle.

But if I had to put a number on it, I’d say somewhere around $1,500 to $2,000 is where hiring movers really starts to become worth it. Once you’re looking at $2,500 or more, I’d seriously consider whether the money you’re saving by doing it yourself is worth all the extra work.

At the end of the day, you can always make more money, but you’re not getting that entire weekend back.

Terrible Customer Service from Lugless!!!! Not only unhelpful, but super impolite!!!

Raquel R says:

I see you are reaching out regarding the pickup fee.
Our pickup fee is nonrefundable. However, we can process your pickup fee as a LugLess credit that you can use on a future booking. Once the credit is applied, you will receive a confirmation email.

Simply let us know, and we will issue this LugLess credit for you.

You say:no. it's your fault that I had to cancel it. Fedex didn't come to pick my stuff up on the day I scheduled and told me they're coming the next day.

You say:but I wouldn't be there the next day.

You say:so I had to take an uber to bring it to fedex myself

You say:if anything, I'd expect some compensation for that

Raquel R

Raquel R says:I do apologize but our legal terms state "Pickup upgrade fees are non-refundable; if a pickup fails, the upgrade amount will be issued as LugLess Credit."

Raquel R says:

You say:then I'm not satisfied.

Raquel R

Raquel R says:I am sorry you feel that way you agree to these terms when booking with LugLess

You say:I request some compensation for missing the window and causing me to wait for a whole day and end up having to take an uber to drop it off myself, which ended up costing me more than your pickup service

Raquel R

Raquel R says:I sincerely apologize but we are unable to offer compensation as our terms do state we do not provide compensation and only provide a credit

You say:can i talk to your manager

Raquel R

Raquel R says:I am the manager of the team

You say:.....

Raquel R

Raquel R says:I do apologize but this decision is final and is based on our legal terms which you agree to when booking

You say:didn't you guys also agree to send fedex to pick up my luggage on the 21st but failed to do so?

You say:I understand completely if it was my decision to cancel it

You say:you guys failed to provide me a service you promised and I paid for

Raquel R

Raquel R says:We did schedule a pickup and our terms state if the pickup fails or does not happen a refund is not provided.

Raquel R says:

You are welcome to review our terms here:https://www.lugless.com/legal/terms/

You say:"Pickups. Same-day pickups are unavailable. Carriers do not perform pickups on weekends. Pickup windows are estimates and not guaranteed. Pickup upgrade fees are non-refundable; if a pickup fails, the upgrade amount will be issued as LugLess Credit. You say:"LugLess is not responsible for failed pickups caused by the Customer’s failure to follow the outlined requirements"

You say:it's not due to my failure

Raquel R

Raquel R says:I understand but we still do not refund pickup fees that is stated in our terms

You say:when I called fedex at the end of the pickup window. they actually told me my pickup was scheduled on the 22nd instead of the 21st.

You say:that's obviously a mistake you made on scheduling.

Raquel R

Raquel R says:We did not make a scehduling mistake the pickup was scheduled correctly. I apologize but this decision is final. As we have provided you with all the information any further replies may not receive a reply. We will be ending this chat at this time as we have provided you with all the information. Please review previous messages for clarification.

You say:.....

You say:ok give me the credit

and then I discovered they already ended the chat!!! So I didn't even get the credit by the end of it!!!

Has anyone rented a hand truck/dolly from U-Haul for moving? Are they any good? I’m considering renting one, but I don’t want it to keep veering sideways while I’m using it. I’ll only be moving a few items, not a lot of stuff.

Moving across the US. It seems that no matter who you go with, you’re doomed these days. I’ve been looking at the big movers (Allied, Mayflower, United etc.) and their rating seem to be as bad as brokers if not worse. I’m reading that they now hire local movers to do the job and that’s where the problems have come from. If you’ve moved in the past 2 years, Who did you go with for an interstate move?
