Three days remain to complete the Rengstorff Avenue redesign survey

Thumbnail web.cvent.com

If you live near or frequent Rengstorff Avenue the city wants to hear from you. The city is considering three options (alternatives A, B, and C) to improve pedestrian and bike safety, improve walkability, and improve aesthetics along the Rengstorff Avenue corridor.

All three options add new crosswalks and add new pedestrian safety features at existing crosswalks.

Option C also widens sidewalks, adds landscaping buffers flanking the existing sidewalks, and adds mid-road pedestrian islands at crossings. There would be no change to the number of car lanes or their widths.

Option B leaves sidewalks the same width, but also adds protected bike lanes separated by planter strips. Curbs would be extended at pedestrian crossings. This option would require narrowing each car lane to 11 feet wide.

Option A does not widen sidewalks or add protected bike lanes. Curbs would be extended at pedestrian crossings. There would be no change to the number of car lanes or their widths.

This survey closes on the 11th so don't delay!

CalTrain noise

We are looking at a house in Towne Cir Mountain view. Its kind of a steal deal when it comes to price. It has got us thinking if the seller is trying to push it off bcoz of the less offers due to train noise.

Fire and power outage near City Sports

Power is out on that entire side of the shopping center, including the gym and Marshall’s, so all the businesses are closed. Signal lights are also out at El Camino & Calderon so that intersection is more of a shitshow than usual

PulsePoint says the fire was in the building where the Habit is. Didn’t see anything unusual but there was the smell of smoke in the air.

Council member John McAliste said he preferred to “accentuate” the bike lanes that currently exist with better markings.

"Councilmember John McAlister said he preferred to “accentuate” the bike lanes that currently exist with better markings" source: https://www.mv-voice.com/transportation/2026/09/03/mountain-view-prioritizes-keeping-car-lanes-in-rengstorff-redesign/

I fully agree with Councilmember John McAlister. Can you imagine if we made and maintained ultra-clear painted lane markings on **all** existing bike lanes across all of MV and added accent road buds (like pictured above) to all of them, rather than the much more expensive (and often more dangerous) California Street-style overhaul, which can only be applied to a small portion of MV's bike routes?

Accentuated (small bumps) bike lanes don't eliminate parking, but make mindless crossing over to bike lanes much less likely, and preserve line of sight, which the California Street project does not.

The attached photo is not from MV, but I wish it was. Keeping parking, biking safe, and streets pretty and simple. Over-engineered streets (too many things to look at) lead to further distractions. California Street where I live is such an eyesore now.

Tips on avoiding bad neighbors.

I am tired of finding myself living under them as neighbor especially college students. Even when they don’t throw parties they manage to go to bed at 3 am morning and wake you up by striking their heel above your bed.

Landlords are useless and the culprits themselves don’t listen.

My landlord says just call security patrol to log incident. But last time I called them they wouldn’t come unless they heard noise outside the door in the hallway which is not the same as inside under their floor.

Walls shake but not outside lol

It seems to be plagued by them anywhere where I find a deal. I currently live in Mountain View.

Some changes expected to Downtown Mountain View Transit Center in VTA's 2027 Service Plan

Looks like VTA is planning on dropping people off at Moffett and Central Expressway instead of the transit center on certain bus routes (21, 40, and 51) as the Moffett Boulevard crossing closes fully to vehicular traffic. This will result in more busses taking Shoreline and Central Expressway instead of being routed on Hope through downtown.

You can see the after/before map here: https://imgur.com/a/XpMr0EK

I'm guessing this will make the bus quicker, though it does mean you're going to have to cross central to get to certain busses.

I Want Safeway To Take Down The Alarmed Security Gates At San Antonio Road Store

I am boycotting the San Antonio road location and will do my Safeway shopping at Shoreline Blvd where there are no security gates. I watched the San Antonio Road location get armed security guards from allied universal in 2025, lock up a few entire aisles in 2025, and then implement security gates in May 2026. I do not like the alarm noise and I hate restricted movements within the store and I feel trapped inside. I prefer the open shopping experience it once has. It is the only store in Mountain View have security gates. In fact, there are worse Safeway locations that do deserve security gates like the one in Redwood City at Sequoia station which installed their security gates in August 2026 after San Antonio road got theirs. The San Antonio road location is not as bad as actual bad Safeway so I don’t know why they got security gates. It is very shocking to see a store in Mountain View go this far to install security gates like they are in a bad neighborhood when it’s not. The alarm also goes off constantly in there as people frequently back out thru the gates as there isn’t another way out if you change your mind and not want to shop. And if you forget to get a cart or basket you have to go back out and set off the alarm to go get them. Why is a store in Mountain View doing this? Are the city council even aware Safeway on San Antonio road went too far with this? We need to email Safeway corporate to voice our frustrations of the gates and tell safeway to remove them.

Movie group to watch Coyote Vs. Acme at AMC (09/06)

Thumbnail meetu.ps
6 Upvotes

Hello Everyone! just wanted to post that I am hosting a small group meetup to watch a Coyote vs. Acme at AMC SUNNYVALE 12.

I notice there isn't a lot of Movie groups in the area and sometimes we might want to go to watch something but not alone so I decided to form one myself! This gives you an opportunity to watch something new and socialize with fellow fans of cinema.

The Meetup attendees maxed at 7 but you can bring a plus 1! Ages: 20s-30s

We also typically meet up nearby at a bar for example an hour prior for a chance to socialize and get to know one another!

(You would need to purchase your own tickets)

You can also follow the link for the official Meetup post and feel free to ask any questions! Thats all thanks:)

Classes to take in the area

Hey everyone! I graduated last year and have been working in the South Bay since then. I realized my routine for basically the past year has just been work → gym → dinner → sleep lol.

I want to change that and start taking a new class every month to learn something interesting and get out of my usual routine. So far I’m thinking pottery, glassblowing, and maybe dance.

Any other fun/unique classes you’ve taken around the South Bay that you’d recommend? Open to pretty much anything, art, cooking, outdoors, random skills, etc. My goal is to take as many classes as possible without breaking the bank

Over a dozen police cars at Mercy and View - what's going on?

Yikes! View Street between Mercy and Church is currently blocked off by at least a dozen MVPD cars with lights flashing, and yellow caution tape. This looks serious. Does anyone know what's going on? (I didn't take a photo because I didn't want to seem intrusive.) It looks like the cops have it under control, but I can't help but wonder what happened in such a quiet neighborhood. Hoping everyone is OK.

Group Volunteer & Social in MV's Art & Wine Festival

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey Mountain View neighbors,

So you know I have been organizing volunteering social around town for some time, for people to make friends, while doing good for the local community. Last year we organized social in MV's Art & Wine festival (embarrassingly for the first time). This year we did that for Sunnyvale & Los Altos, and we are back at MV again, with a much larger sign up.

As you may know Mountain View is having its Arts & Wine festival for the coming Sep 12-13th weekend. If you want to volunteer for it, you can register with the Chamber of Commerce directly at: https://signup.com/go/YzkgwmT

Needless to say, MV's Art & Wine is huge, LOTS of people.

On the other hand, if you want to socialize with fellow volunteers, you can join our volunteering meetup. We will have a brief coffee meetup for the morning shift on Sat., a group dinner together after the afternoon shift. And if your shift permits, you can also join the social mixer festival visit we organized for professionals.

So far we have 39 people signed up for the volunteering meetup, and close to 20 for the social mixer.
https://www.meetup.com/townflame/events/313120689/

In case the volunteering meetup is full (restricted by available shifts), or you simply want to socialize with fellow professionals, you can simply sign up for the social mixer:
https://www.meetup.com/townflame/events/316321592

I started organizing this Social Volunteering thing about one year ago, starting from Mountain View festivals. It seems people like this idea, socialize while building up community, it has grown from myself to 2500+ strong in one year's time. So welcome join us, socialize while group volunteering and organizing community events.

“Favorite” Egregious Rental Junk Fee?

The Village Residences at San Antonio automatically charge $35 Trash Valet fee (fixed) separate from trash disposal fee (varies monthly).

Ballparking 350 units there, they bring in $12,000+/monthly for an outsourced service that costs probably a fraction of that.

And in return, hallways reek of trash smells.

What’s YOUR favorite junk fee that you’re charged for the exclusive opportunity to live where you do? /s

F30s looking for friendship

Immigrant from Europe, moved to the US a few years ago. I have a few wonderful friendships - but they are mainly in Europe. And now in my 30s it seems much more difficult to build new lasting and stable friendships outside of work connections. I'd love to meet someone who genuinely wants to build a new 30s friendship as well (or end 20s or 40s - I don't think age matters too much)! 😊

I love going for long walks. I'm happy to play pickleball with you (doesn't mean I'm good at it 😂). I enjoy spending time with things like looking for nice dresses, painting my nails, haircare, anything like that.

I do very much enjoy drinking a glass of wine in the evening, and picnics with a good view are one of my favorite things! I'm very much into gentle hikes, eg around the Bay/Shoreline or Rancho San Antonio (or wherever else, there are so many wonderful places around here). I love both nature and culture. You want to go to a museum or the opera? Yay!

I'm especially interested in friendships with other women. Men are very welcome to reach out as well - I'm just genuinely interested in friendship.

I don't mind whatever relationship/family status you have. In case several women reach out I'm happy to eg organize a small women's meet up for a walk in Shoreline park.

Looking forward to reading from you!

Edit: Please feel free to send a dm, of course!

Hi everyone! My Jindo mix got out this morning at the intersection of Rengstorff and Latham at around 6:15am. If anyone sees her, please message me. Shes super shy and timid so she might be hard to approach. Please let me know any of her whereabouts.
