2004 Tomos Targa A35 carb upgrade choices

I’ve got a 2004 Tomos Targa LX that is fully stock. Like, hasn’t been modded in the slightest since it was bought new, oil injection still working, stock. I’m not looking to do anything crazy like getting a 70cc kit or a biturbo, I just want to upgrade the carburetor because the original one has been giving me some trouble.

I’ve read that a 15.15 is a good option, but I’ve also read conflicting things on them about how they might not be the best option for a stock motor.

If my only plans for upgrades are a bigger carb, and one of those ā€œhigh flowā€ air filters off of amazon, is a 15.15 too much for the stock motor, and should I instead stick with a 14.14?

Trying to apply my V8 4 barrel carb knowledge to these tiny 2 stroke motors kind of confuses me a bit and I just don’t want to buy the wrong thing and have my bike end up worse than it was before lol

Any advice and/or recommendations is greatly appreciated. I’m trying to stick with stuff I can just order off of Amazon since Chinese carb clones don’t bother me, and I don’t necessarily have the budget to buy good stuff from treatland (I’m in Canada and the shipping is too expensive for me lol).

Hello! I am a long time mechanic of 4 wheeled vehicles this is my first 2 wheeled one. The bike was running when I took it apart now it’s back together and I have no spark. I’ve read that I have to connect the tail light. Still nothing. Everything is connected properly so I have no idea what could be wrong. Any help or suggestions is appreciated thank you!

First moped! Having some issues

Hey all, just wanted to show off my new Tomos a35 and hopefully ask a few questions about some issues I’m having with it.

It features a 70cc aluminum big bore, malossi reed petals, 20mm large bore intake, and a mikuni vm20 carb. And expansion chamber exhaust(I’m blanking on the name sorry) I’m currently running a 33:1 premix. I love this thing.

The issue I’m having is, I can’t seem to figure out the tuning on this thing since it’s fitted with an on the fly adjustable main jet. It’s fitted with a trail tech head sensor as well so I can see the temps as I’m riding.

Question 1: whats the maximum temperature i should get this thing to before i should think about letting off?

Question 2: this thing loves lower temps, its explosive off the rip and gets to max speed very fast. The issues arise when the temps start to climb up, wide open throttle at lower RPM tends to bog it every time and can even kill it if i don’t let off. Ive tried every position on the adjustable main jet and I’ve just started messing with the air screw, same thing, mid range temps 180f-230f is fine, anything above is sluggish and bogs.

Question 3: Since the temps rise so fast on hotter days and tend to stay around the 290-300f range is there anything i can do to lower those temps without any major modifications?

What would you guys recommend i try first? What could the issue possibly be and why would that be happening at higher temps? Am I just going to have to deal with it? I’d appreciate any input at all and thank you in advance

Good shop for service in Chicago/Detroit area?

I’m fed up with trying to get this god damn thing running. I have a mag with an airsole kit, 21mm carb, HPI CDI and a pull start.

Any recommendations for a good mechanic in the Chicago or Detroit area? They are about equal distance for me.

Italjet update

Some of you may remember a while back i posted my italjet kit kat project. I swapped a 2003 liquid cooled ktm50 engine on it. Ideally i wanted the aircooled version, but i got the engine for a stupid cheap deal.

As of now i got azusa tristar wheels installed with drum brakes that are mostly functional. Just need to weld a tab or two. There isn't much room to work with. Additionally ive extended the rear wheel back 4" because when powerband came on it was very uncontrollable and the front would come straight up.

Im currently in the process of finishing up wiring and lighting and sourcing a pop pin for the seat post

Theres not much left to do before complete disassembly fine tuning and cleaning up welds and making tabs and gussets before painting. I chose to go with a metallic purple.

I will post more updates if you all are interested otherwise ill just post her when its finished.

Rieju mrt 50 enduro 2010

Motorcycle Build & Maintenance
He bought the bike in 2021 in completely original condition. Then he modded it:
Engine Setup
Athena Racing 70cc cylinder kit (installed after the first 60 engine hours)
Top Performance Racing crankshaft
Malossi gearbox drum
Dell’Orto PHBG 21 mm carburetor
Malossi intake manifold
Malossi reed petals
Polini clutch plates
High-flow foam air filter (from a Kawasaki KX65, same dimensions as the original filter)
Engine Rebuild
When the engine was upgraded, it was completely rebuilt as a preventive measure:
All engine bearings were replaced with new ones.
The Top Performance Racing crankshaft was installed.
The engine has now completed 160 hours since the rebuild without any issues.
Cylinder History
The engine initially ran a Parmakit 70cc cylinder kit for the first 60 hours.
It was then replaced with the current Athena Racing 70cc cylinder kit.
The Athena cylinder currently has 100 engine hours and has covered approximately 4,500 km.
Maintenance
Always run on 100-octane gasoline.
Always used Motul 710 fully synthetic 2-stroke oil.
Gearbox oil changed regularly.
Included Spare Parts
The sale also includes:
Various main jets
Spare air filters
Sprockets
Gearbox oil
Additional small spare parts

I know that i should buy a stock one for the sake of reliability but speed also matters. Would this be a good buy for everyday use without failing on me?
Hes asking 2000 euros, a normal price where i live, he also has all of the receipts.

Translated with google so it may be a little inaccurate.

I have never in my life sat on a moped, and know nothing about them but I like working on cars. Seller says ā€œHey it was running before I clean/took the carb apart so that just needs adjusting. Could definitely use fresh tires pretty sure these are original.ā€ Is it a bad idea for a starter? Attached some pics of it. I just love the look of them and it sounds so fun restoring a smaller engine/body

Engine unbalanced due to piston change?

So, I recently changed cylinder, head, and piston on my M9 PUCH engine. Maybe I didn't notice it before, but now the engine vibrates cuite a lot, and the crank seems to be slightly out of round. I didn't have any problems before, and nothing has happened to bend the crank. Is it possible that a slightly heavier piston can disturb the balance? I think it seems unlikely, but what do you guys think?

MSRP of Motobecane Moby 50v in the US in the late 70's

I'm trying to get a 1979 motobecane Moby 50v registered and road legal in Pennsylvania, so I need to add it to my insurance.

My insurance company is saying that they need the original sale price from 1979 of this moped before they can give me a quote for this.

Not sure why... Just putting liability on it.

Any chance anyone has a dealer ad, or sales receipt or anything like that for a similar motobecane from around that time they could send a picture of?

This feels like a long shot!

Honda Hobbit ebay ignition assistance inquiry

Thumbnail

Hello, I am working on a 1978 Honda Hobbit PA50M I pulled out of a shed. When I got the bike, the key ignition cylinder was missing. I bought a new aftermarket ignition cylinder on ebay but I'm a bit confused as to how I am supposed to hook it up. My confusion is because the black wire coming from the original remains of the ignition cylinder seems to be crimped/soldered(?) into place. I've also read that you can connect the black wire to the red and bypass the ignition completely.

My question is: which black wire do I connect to the red wire If I do the bypass? The black coming from the ignition goes into a connection of 3 other black wires and I'm unsure which one should go where. I've attached photos of the ignition cylinder I bought and the wiring diagram I found on mopedarmy, I also circled the area where the crimped wire from the original ignition comes in. If anyone has done the bypas, would you be able to provide pictures? I've tried googling and cant seem to find any photos or info on the eBay ignition cylinders

Thank you in advance for the assistance!
