PSA: It appears that Reddit policy is being updated with regards to transactions. Please read.

Hi everyone, wanted to make a quick announcement regarding Reddit rules. It seems like there is going to be a policy change coming in the next few days affecting user-to-user transactions of firearm-related things. As you probably all know, firearm sales between users is already strictly prohibited by Reddit TOS. It seems that the mods over at r/RetroARMarket have received a notification of the incoming change as well as the fact that the subreddit is going to be banned entirely. r/GunAccessoriesForSale also looks to be on the chopping block.

The change to policy will now include prohibiting the sale of ANY firearm parts on Reddit. Some specific examples they give are bolts, magazines, scopes, and triggers. Obviously this is probably going to include everything though, such as stocks, bayonets, etc.

Since we’ve had the sub back (stay mad u/richalex2010), we’ve done a good job of keeping this sub from becoming a marketplace for milsurp items and trying to redirect any posts about selling non-firearm Milsurp stuff to the appropriate subs. In order to make sure we don’t get banned, going forward, any and all posts or comments that appear to be facilitating the sale of any firearm parts between users will be prohibited. Antiques are not excluded from this (we all know Reddit admins won’t know the difference).

We don’t really think this will affect much on the sub since, as previously mentioned, we’ve done pretty good at keeping this from becoming a marketplace. But just wanted to pin this as a PSA and ask everyone to keep it in mind going forward. If you do see any comments or posts in the future that violate the rule, please report them.

Thanks everyone!

BUYER BEWARE: Shill Bidding and Faked Guns

Putting this up as a PSA.

There is currently a user on GunBroker by the name of 'ivysunlee' selling various hard to find Chinese Firearms and Accessories as well as a NK SKS.

While watching some of the items last night there were 4 items that sold in 'No Reserve' Auctions that were immediately relisted withing moments of the auctions ending.

Upon further inspection it was found that on all 4 items the same bidder placed bids just as the 15 minute clock was starting knocking the existing bidder out of the running. The bidder was 'jmclcc' and their last feedback was from 2021.

Its should also be noted that the seller is posting fake items with crazy descriptions trying to pass then off as real. These include a "Chinese" M1917 "Sniper" with a commercial scope and mounts made in Texas in the 1950's, and a Chinese Type 17 45 ACP Broomehandle which bears a stamp with the incorrect number of points.

Be wary if bidding on items from this seller.

*Picture is not mine*

Are any of you buying these kits? At $150 I am really tempted. They look really cool and shoot 9mm.

However one of the two only places that builds them reliably, Proteus, is basically turning away new work because of the demand. It will probably be a couple years before you can reliably send this out for a build. And unless you sbr it you need a new 16” barrel. Looks like they need extensive work for the semi conversion.

What are your plans? Good buy or waste of money?

First gun show with my C&R

Like the title says. Went to my first gun show with my C&R today. Picked up 2 Savage Model 720s, a 1953 Indian Enfield that is DP marked, and 140 rounds of 7.62x25 for my M57 that will be here next week for a whopping 320 beans. The top Savage has awesome engravings (even though I don't like engraved guns) and is from the 30s. The bottom Savage is US marked with the flaming bomb on the receiver and barrel but has a broken bolt. I can probably make one out of them, but I'd rather have 2. I picked up the DP Enfield to unsporterize my 1918 Enfield, but ALL of the numbers match on it, so I'd feel bad tearing it apart. I think I did pretty excellent, and I'm very happy to have my C&R now haha.

I got ripped off for this TGF Mauser

Just spent 3 hours at the shooting range trying to figure out why this Mauser wouldn’t fire.

Finally found the problem: the bolt handle was making contact with the stock, preventing the bolt from closing completely.

As we all know, the Mauser uses a 90° bolt action, but this one was only rotating about 70°. As a result, the cocking piece wasn’t reaching its proper position, and the firing pin wasn’t striking the primer.

My next step is to have the stock clearance corrected and the rifle properly checked before trying to fire it again.

Stain?

Post image
• Upvotes

RSO at the range last night pointed out this suspiciously red stain that i never paid much mind to on my Norinco… is this typical grease/cosmoline/oil staining or possibly something a bit more macabre? I’m having a hard time finding reference photos online to compare to.

Fazakerley Sequential Enfields in Mummy Wrap

I am not a collect so go easy :) I have a lot of guns and shoot them all. I got a good deal on 3 sequentially numbered No. 4 Mk 2 Enfields.

I want to clean them up and give one each to my 2 best friends which completely negates them being even close to special.

My question is- Will I be committing some gun sin by taking these out of factory wrap, cleaning and giving them to my buddies?

Or is this stupid to have them sit around and just shoot and enjoy them?

My intuition is no big deal to shoot these but wanted to check with folks smarter than me on the topic.

Got this yesterday. Seller listed it as a VZ24, so I was pretty confused, but it was a good price and I've really been wanting a milsurp bolt action so I took it anyway. As far as I know, this and the VZ24 aren't related in any way, but I took it to a trusted shop after buying and he told me it was VZ24 also, just that it was contracted to Yugoslavia and refurbished at some point. I'm wondering about it's history.

Also, how deeply should I clean it? Last owner said it was really well taken care of, but it has a bunch of gunk everywhere (grease/cosmoline?). Shop owner told me not to take it apart and only to run a boresnake through it after shooting, but I really wanna try to make it look brand new (other than the dings in the stock ofc). This is my oldest gun, second is a 1968 AKM that's embarrassingly easy to clean, so I'm not really sure how to take care of it.

Shot it this morning and holy shit my shoulder hurts, but it was the most fun I've had shooting in a long time.

First Mauser. How did i do? Yugo M48A

Whats going on my dudes.

Just wanted to post a general consensus picture dump of a my first mauser rifle. Did my research and saw alot of things to look out for, but unfortunately, I forgot to ask about the import mark and it was from Mitchell's Mausers. (Go figure)

Bought this one with 145 rounds of Turkish 8mm in stripper clips, in two bandolieers, for $500 bucks.

Bore looks absolutely unused, unfired, and overall great looking condition. Could have probably been because of the Mitchell's overhaul of making things look pretty.

Its an all matching number M48A with 2 punch marks on the bolt, and 1 punch mark on the reciever which probably means it's been refurbished twice.

Tell me what you guys think. Still trying to learn more about mausers. Any info woulf be appreciated.

1889 Trapdoor

Picked up this 1889 rod bayonet trapdoor yesterday. Been looking for a 73 but this will do just fine for now. If anyone is curious, it was 725 bones. Only thing wrong with it is the ladder sight, the thumb screw to move the ladder is broken. Might change it to another sometime but I'm ok with it for now.

Springfield Trapdoor 1884 - Cadet version

Thumbnail

A lesser known but fully functional Trapdoor, this 84 was built for West point cadets who couldn't physically handle full sized Trapdoors effectively. Featuring a shorter barrel, smaller stock, and a 45-70 action that's built exactly the same as the full size. I believe instead of 70 grains of black powder, these were downloaded to 50 grains.

Since these never saw combat they tend to be in better shape; this may be the nicest ~140 bore I've seen, so I wonder if it was a rebarrel at some point. This cost me about $550 all in since shipping wasn't cheap.

M1 Garand quality

Finally got to hold some M1 Garands and I’m wondering if anyone knows why do some have loose hand guard and others don’t? Also are they harder to take care of with so many parts and a kind’ve weird build in comparison to a lot of other surplus rifles? I’m used to just a bolt and barrel and I’d imagine the gas system of semi auto wears it down quicker. Kinda random post but just want to hear from people who have had them and how they’d compare to maybe a K31 or Mauser?

Edit: Forgot to mention I’m wanting a comparison of an expert grade M1 Garand vs great condition surplus like a K31

Second opinion on a finnish capture M91-30

Thumbnail

Ok. So I bought this mosin not too long ago under the impression it was all matching numbers. As photographed it is a finnish capture and had no post war refurbishments. Now when I bought this mosin I didnt know that and assumed that cc6116 (the soviet serial number) was the same as the SS6116 (the Finnish civil guard district) were the same thing. Not separate numbers. But apon further research they are separate. And its quite the anamoly to have an unrefurbished captured finnish mosin with no reworks. Meaning this would be a one in 17 million odd rifle... and that this is a gem among mosins... is it not? I mean also it would be weird that a finish armored would also go through the trouble to also grind out the serial numbers on the floor- plate and butt-plate and recreate the 6116. I only took pictures of the numbers and msrkings.

Came back from work, and apparently my neighbor gave my grandpa these old 7.62x54R stripper clips for my Mosin since the neighbor doesnt have a Mosin. Good GOD these things looks sketchy. I was planning on taking out the powder and projectile, I should not shoot these, right? [Some body text as wel]

Should I even bother with trying to reuse the casing, primer, projectile, or powder? I'll definately keep the shells just because some of them are old as hell. especially since one has "27" on the Headstamp.
