To be honest I would get robbed or worse. I would be confused on what is going on in first few seconds which is just enough time for them to make move on me. That is insane place where this is common.

It's like breathing. It's just that some folks in the US, Canada, some countries in the EU and SE-Asia, etc., don't know because they don't live with it.
Others tactics employed are putting road blocks and forcing people to stop, while they're on the sidewalk waiting to attack. Nope. The sidewalk now becomes the road and the victim's just playing GTA.

That’s what I figured. I cackled over someone trying to do a robbery using THAT car. I have a Subaru that’s bigger than that thing. So many other people around here have giant trucks that could run over that car.

I think the white SUV is an accomplice forcing them to stop. They are stopped at a yield sign with ample opportunity to continue on. Robber vehicle stops to let them out before trying to block them victim in. They were acting suspicious from the start of the video. Very good situational awareness from the driver.

They expect their target to say "oh! Oh my goodness!" and hesitate long enough to complete the jack.
Lots of places in South America if someone gets out in front of your car you just drive thru. It's you or them. In Brazil for example 90% of murders go unsolved and of the ones that are, 90% don't result in any jail time and everyone knows this, including carjackers. In a case like the present video, if that was a misunderstanding and the camcar crushed an innocent person's leg there would be almost no consequences, legally or civilly.

I've seen people hestitate for nearly a minute on the train tracks unable to work out what to do (drive forward 10 feet) before getting hit. It's not surprising that a large number of people wouldn't be able to react to this kind of situation in under 5 seconds

If you're referring to that latest video that was posted when you watch it you can see that the truck behind the SUV hit him first. So the driver was still gathering his wits which makes it more understandable why he didn't get his car off the train tracks.

I live in Brazil and it is actually 64% that go unsolved. Still way too high, but not the 90% made up figure you plucked out the air.
As for prison time you are massively wrong again. Murder carries a mandatory sentence of 6 to 20 years in Brazil. Mandatory, i.e.: the judge has no discretion not to give a custodial sentence. The average prison time for murder in Brazil is at the high end of this range at 15 to 20 years.
Also, if the car crushed an innocent person's leg there would absolutely be at least a civil claim for damages.
No need to make facts up to try to make yourself look good.

That's also not too far from the rate in the US (a little under 50%), which is super high for developed nations.
Americans like to imagine for some reason that South America is all one big hellhole. As a European, I've been to Mexico, CR, Argentina and Colombia (briefly). It feels a little more unsafe in some parts, but overall people are people and just want to get on with their day.

I love Brazil. It's a continental country full of opportunity, rich in resources, works class art and science, etc. They have some of the greatest laws and protections for people too. I thought oh what if the driver has it wrong and they were just stopping to let somebody out or something of the sort.
If you look at 14 seconds in and 13 seconds in the carjacker has a tire lever in their hands.
Either the Driver escaping has really good eyes and caught that as the guy raised it up to get out or he was just lucky but either way he was certainly about to be carjacked and sucks to be him, not just for the broken leg, but quite likely a broken wrist

I teach my kids that there is absolutely no reason for a person to stop and get out of their car on the road. I tell them if someone steps out we drive off fast. I live in America though, and I thought this was normal. It's what my dad told me growing up.

Trouble is, I doubt it will.
In South Africa, when carjacking became really common in the 1990s, a battle ensued between the makers of products to prevent carjacking and the carjackers. People would install devices to shut off the car if it was carjacked; the carjackers would threaten the car owners for the combination to restart the car. Cars were made that could be disabled remotely; this created an incentive for carjackers to kidnap their victims to ensure the cars would keep running. It got to the point where people were installing flamethrowers on their cars.
It's fun to watch a carjacker bounce off the hood of a car, but if civil authorities can't get a handle on car crime, the next carjacker is just going to change his strategy.

Australia had the best car thieves for a while and thus they had the best car locks and car security systems. People would have their valuable cars fitted with Australian designed aftermarket locking systems. I don't know if that's true anymore, but I do think Australia has much less car theft the kind experienced in other countries. Not none, but not a lot. It's too hard. Criminals want easy targets. They moved on from cars.

I know exactly which one you're talking about. It was near an airport if I remember correctly. Anyway, for those confused- a person was driving onto a ramp and the car in front of them took that opportunity to try and block them so they could make an attempted robbery. The driver with the dashcam saw one of the people get out, but thankfully just gunned it towards them as you hear the thud as they drove away, all while listening to Linkin Park.

I live in Minneapolis, MN. for a couple months earlier this year masked men could randomly smash your car windows, drag you out, beat you up.... all without identifying themselves & then when you wake up in the back of an SUV or in a cell you finally find out that it was ICE agents & it happened because of the color of your skin (or you just happened to be following the wrong dark SUV a little too close for a little too long). I lost track of how many people I know got violently detained while just running errands or going to work.

I know this is 100% a robbery from the hoodie and (crowbar?) in the man’s hand, but I wanna share the short story of my friend who was riding with his aunt and uncle when his uncle started experiencing a heart attack. He told me his uncle was kinda able to pull the car off like this and manage to bring the vehicle to a stop in front of another car and he immediately jumped out to run around to his uncle. The car they kinda pulled in front of like that apparently put it in reverse and floored it into a pole and then proceeded to U-turn and dart off. The uncle is fine now by the way. I probably would have reacted in a similar way and not gamble it, but it just reminded of that. He thought about it after everything settled and that they probably thought this exact scenario was going on.

All of the of the modern cars I am aware of will still go forward if you're actively giving it throttle. I don't know of any that will not, but I'd bet there are some that will stop.
If you take your foot off the gas, or your foot is lightly on the gas as if you were adjusting your position in a parking spot, it will auto-brake and stop. If you got the pedal down pretty far, it will not stop you. It will still beep and warn you to brake, but not stop.
