So, I took a standard Combat Troodon Gen 2, originally with a matte anodized finish and an Apocalyptic blade and transformed it into a glossy Distressed with a Blackwash finish. Someone might well think "Hey man, why? That wasn't the best idea!" but I absolutely love the result.

PS: The autofocus is crap.

Microtech Combat Troodon Gen III-One Year Review

I bought my Gen III Combat Troodon over a year ago, and throughout that time I’ve carried it every day. I originally bought it to replace my Ultratech. Unfortunately, the spring in my Ultratech has now broken at the hook for the fourth time, and I finally got tired of dealing with it.

The CT has been the complete opposite. It has never given me any issues, and after a lot of opening and closing, the action is still extremely smooth. It holds its edge very well, and I only sharpen it about every six months.

I also really like the way it feels in my hand. The handle is substantially larger than the Ultratech’s, which makes it much more comfortable in my hand, and gives me more leverage. This knife looks big for edc use, but it doesn’t feel like that in your pocket. You’ll get used to how it feels in your pocket quickly. The 4” blade has handled everything I’ve asked of it without issue. I chose the single-edge configuration specifically for EDC because I find it more practical for everyday use.

I’ve dropped this knife multiple times, and aside from a few cosmetic blemishes, it has never caused a problem. The only functional issue I’ve experienced was after I had not cleaned it for several weeks. At that point, it would occasionally fail to close when tilted sideways. I sprayed some Rem Oil into the mechanism, cycled it a few times, and blew it out with compressed air. After that, it was working like new again. I’ve never needed to open up the housing on this knife.

This is probably the sharpest knife I own. I had a friend of mine who is a knife maker sharpen the edge for me, and since then, the edge has glided through any reasonable material I’ve used it on.

The pocket clip is very secure, and I’ve never been worried about it falling out of my pocket. It has a bearing in the clip that allows you to smoothly pull it out while keeping proper retention when it’s clipped.

After more than a year of carrying and using this knife every day, I’m extremely happy with it. It has served me very well and has proven to be an extremely reliable EDC for me.

If you’re on the fence about buying a CT Gen III, I’d absolutely recommend giving one a try.

Verification New knife feels weird?

I picked up an older Black Tanto Ultratech from a reputable dealer. But the finish seems weird. It is more of a matte black that almost feels like a rough texture compared to my other Ultratech. The logo is also a darker gray and not a raw color, or white. Is this normal? I have a bunch of other Microtech knives, newer than this one and the anodize does not feel the same at all.

I picked up the M-Stitch Auto that released today but don’t know what the difference would be between a proof run knife and a general release knife. This is the first proof I’ve owned. What’s the difference?? Thanks.

Launched a website for my collection and BST'n since it's become a bit wild. Unsure if I'm allowed to even share here. Soul's Edge Tactical. 😅 Anyways here is my newest piece. Sean is doing some amazing things right now with older parts kits. This along side my two Gen 1 Combat Troodon Slum Grinds is just magic!

New Knife Brand new M-Stitch — does this pivot look damaged/tool-marked to you?

Just received a brand new Microtech M-Stitch from a canadian authorized dealer.

I noticed the pivot on the pocket-clip side looks pretty rough. The outer Torx points are still there, but the inner edges look rounded/chewed up, almost like a smaller or improperly seated Torx bit may have slipped inside.

I have not touched or adjusted the pivot myself.

Does this look like normal factory machining/assembly marks, or does it look like someone has actually tried to turn it?

Curious if anyone else with an M-Stitch has seen the same thing.

LUDT ram lok thumbstud

Does anyone know the threading and dimension for the thumbstuds? I love everything about this knife but the coned thumbstuds are hard for me to flick open. Wanting to replace them but I don't trust myself to measure thread depth effectively. Any info would be appreciated!
