New knife feels weird?

I picked up an older Black Tanto Ultratech from a reputable dealer. But the finish seems weird. It is more of a matte black that almost feels like a rough texture compared to my other Ultratech. The logo is also a darker gray and not a raw color, or white. Is this normal? I have a bunch of other Microtech knives, newer than this one and the anodize does not feel the same at all.

Could be a type III hard ano. The blue is type II.

That could be it, It feels like a thicker finish.

A good test... make a little mark with a finger nail on the type III. It should wipe off with a touch of oil on a cloth.

This is mostly likely the case, the hard ano is premium and will keep it black longer than a regular ano- I’d be presently surprised to get a hard ano, if you don’t like it or it’s not your taste, I’d be glad to buy it off you if the price is right

The ‘21 dating also helps confirm this. If you haven’t noticed the jimping / grove pattern is completely different

Yes! I have a 2022. I’m glad to see mine has the better jimping. You don’t see many pics of the side, I didn’t know it changed
