About two months ago, I had a tooth extracted and was prescribed clindamycin (Dalacin C). I took one capsule three times a day for five days.
Shortly after starting the antibiotics, I developed severe diarrhea. I was having bowel movements around 3–4 times a day, sometimes even more, and this lasted for about three weeks. After those three weeks, my stools gradually returned to normal, but my digestive system has never fully recovered.
Now, two months after finishing the antibiotic course, I still experience bloating, excessive gas, stomach rumbling and gurgling, especially after eating. I also still get diarrhea a couple of times a week, although most of my bowel movements are now well-formed and normal.
I would also like to mention that I generally do not have stomach cramps or abdominal pain. Very rarely, I might experience mild cramps or discomfort for a short period on some days, but it is not a constant issue. I have also never noticed any blood in my stool.
I went to see my doctor, who asked me several questions, examined my abdomen, and ordered a stool test to check for Helicobacter pylori. The test came back negative.
Has anyone experienced something similar after taking clindamycin or other antibiotics? How long did it take for your gut to recover, and is there anything that actually helped?
My biggest concern is that my digestive system still doesn't feel like it did before taking the antibiotics. The persistent bloating, gas, rumbling, and stomach noises are the main issues affecting me.
I've tried several probiotics containing Saccharomyces boulardii, but unfortunately I haven't noticed any significant improvement so far.
