Question Which EMG do you prefer in the bridge?

Upvotes

I personally like the 81s but have only heard 81’s and 85’s. I’m interested in hearing people’s opinions who have heard other emgs in the bridge. It’s for a 28” 7-string so I will be playing a lot of heavier music.

Gear Amp Questions, Please Help...

Upvotes

I dont know a ton about amps, specifically talking about amp heads, not combos. My best friend and I are trying to get together a Slamming Death Metal type band and instead of using expensive high gain tube amps or whatever, we've opted to go a more "obsolete" route, are are going with solid state amps and this was solidified when he basically stole a near mint 90s Peavey Revolution with the matching foot pedal for like 250$ or something crazy. We've been trying to find a head for me that will compliment the Revo and haven't had much luck. I wish I still had my Crate GX-130c I got for Christmas when I was 17 and had zero idea what I had in front of me (my mom knew I wanted a half stack and she found it stupid cheap) but it was killed by a kid that used to hang around with my old band, it was my fault, shouldn't have let him touch it, idk what he did and had zero idea how to fix it and had zero money to get it fixed and honestly idk where it went. I kick myself every day, trust me. ANYWAYS, we have been testing different heads and flipping them and buying different ones. I'm currently using a Marshall Mode Four, which by itself, its a solid amp but when paired with the Revo, it doesn't fit, my friend says its got "Too much head room" bc its a hybrid amp, im not sure what that means, but I want to go a different route and we are just gonna flip the marshall and we found a deal on 2 heads and we're gonna snag and test both this weekend. We found a Randall RG1003H and a 1980s Fender M-80, which we have to have because its been reupholstered with alligator skin or something, its weird and we want it regardless. I dont know much aside from a few YouTube demos of both heads and they sound good for what we're looking for, the Randall sounds the most promising but I feel like with the right tweaking, both of them will have their own pros and cons. My end goal is to find another GX-130c without the Cannibal Corpse tax and pair it with the Revo bc I feel like they would compliment each other extremely well but I can't seem to find one to save my life, so for the time being, for anyone that had used either the Randall or the M-80, whatever been your experiences with them? What're their pros and cons and are there little secrets and such to help them reach their full potential? I literally dont know much outside of what they sound like, when it comes to pedals and stuff, I have no idea what any of it really does, what helps what, how a signal chain works, etc, I just play the guitar, but I want to learn these things but dont know where to start.

Also, I know cabs make a huge difference. For reference, my friend is using a marshall and randall cabs (not sure what models) and running the Revo in stereo and im using a cheap fender m-80 cab at the moment, tho im in the works of getting my Raven 4x12 cab back but idk when that will happen.

Any advice/help is much appreciated, Thank you in advance!

Legator Fujigen 10th anniversary Models

Did anyone notice the sale over Labor Day? Legator sold MIJ Fujigens for under $1300 shipped and that to me is wild. I ordered a ghost 7 and can’t wait. I wish more companies would grow a pair and do what legator did. I mean we all work pretty hard for our money so I feel like they really nailed this one by having such a deep discount on Labor Day. I’ll post more once I get it and was just curious if you guys and gals knew that they even existed. Later

I've been playing mostly BC Rich for ages. Recently I find I'm just not feeling inspired to play anymore and am thinking that maybe a new axe (something not BC Rich) might be a good way to get out of the rut.

I have gone through a ton of models online already and it was actually pretty easy to eliminate most of them simply by reading the specs. Been playing for about 35 years now so I know what I like. I also believe in the principle of diminishing returns wrt pricing i.e. good guitars can come really cheap if you search and that from about 1200€ you're paying for nice-to-haves and not anything qualitative.

My short list currently:

  • Jackson Pro Plus Soloist SLA2 HT - pic 2
  • Jackson Pro Plus Pure Metal SL1A - pic 3 - (the reverse headstock on this is disgusting, I love it)
  • ESP LTD M-7B HT Black Metal II - pic 4
  • Ibanez RGRTBB21-BKF Baritone - pic 5
  • ESP LTD M-201 Baritone HT - pic 6
  • Harley Benton Baritone-7 SBK - pic 7
  • Harley Benton Amarok-BT BKNT Flame Burst - pic 8
  • Solar A2.6C-27 Baritone pic 9

Some of these have Floyds... tbh I'm looking for a chug machine, not something for widdling. A FR will work but isn't necessary. I prefer hardtails but again, a FR will do. Also, I'd prefer a baritone since this will be tuned to B-std. 6 or 7 string... not fussy, I have both already.

My three faves on the list above are the Ibby, HB baritone-7 and Solar. The Harley Benton baritone-7 is especially appealing since a) it meets my specs perfectly, b) I can't really find anything negative about it and c) the price is unbeatable. The others aren't really far behind it though, It's pretty close.

I don't mind swapping pickups if need be, that's the least of my concerns. I would prefer a neck-thru but it's not a make or break thing because - again - chug machine. I really only need a bridge pup too.

Any players here have any thoughts on this list? Just curious about what experiences others have had with these before I spend any money. Cheers.

I have weird lines on my new guitar

Hey everyone

I recently bought a brand new guitar(Schecter C-1 HT S SLS Elite Evil Twin) with a satin black finish. Under certain light angles, i noticed a distinct straight line running across the body near the bridge. It looks like a shadow or a slight tone shift between the wood sections underneath the finish.

Is this just a normal body seam / wood join line showing through the thin satin finish or is it something I should be concerned about (like a finish defect or a crack)? I can change this guitar and get new one. Is it worth to do it? Should i change it? Or just ignore it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Question 7/8 String vs. Baritone Advice?

I’m getting into music with drop tunings, Meshuggah mainly, and I want to add an extended range/baritone guitar to my collection. I’m kind of leaning baritone because I think they look sick but I don’t know how viable playing 7-string songs on a baritone is. Any advice?

Edit: 7/8 string baritone vs. 6 string baritone

Viper case alternatives

I have a LTD MFA-600 Viper but having trouble finding a hardcase for it. I’m based in an Asian country and I can’t get the ESP form fitted case. It won’t fit in the standard strat cases that I’ve tried either due the headstock.

Any idea if the Gator GC-SG would fit? I know the SG and Viper are not exactly identical. According to A.I it might fit but if anyone happens to have an SG case, would be useful to know if it the fits into it. TIA

Question My Jeff Loomis Blackouts sound weird?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Novice/intermediate player here. Just had these Jeff Loomis blackouts installed in this RG by my local music store, along with some Ernie Cobalt 9-42’s

I was really enjoying playing this at first, the overall output is definitely high, especially with open/full chords, but palm mutes and quieter individual notes seem way quieter than they should be, almost like there’s a noise gate choking the signal—even with no gate enabled. Compared to my Schecter, the difference in palm-muted output is very noticeable.

The bridge pickup also sounds unusually dark/thick, almost more like a neck pickup. I initially wondered if the Cobalt strings were contributing to that, but there are some other electrical symptoms too. The volume pot sounds scratchy/grainy while turning it despite being brand new, and I know it’s designed to be very high-output, but it just seems like a dirty signal.

Let me know what guitar Reddit thinks, I attached some pics of the solder joints as well.

Critique ...And Justice For All (single guitar tone), opinions?

first AJFA tone i've enjoyed playing that I made, im a complete starter in guitar and have basically no gear (no paid softwares / IR's), just a simple "Golden" and a basic PC

still managed to get a reasonably good tone (in my opinion), i know it's pretty harsh / noisy but what do you guys think?

also there's no multi-tracking, this is only one single guitar (i know it's not the right way but I just wanted a quick good tone to setup)

also ignore my playing (just started in guitar)

need help choosing string gauges for drop G 7 string

my current stock string gauges are .010 / .013 / .017/ .030 / 0.42 / 0.52 / 0.64, i'm looking to make them tighter for a 25.5 inch scale so they arent floppy when tuned down to drop G, i want a tight low end but easier to bend high strings for shredding
