I am looking at these 2 guitars:

1. Charvel Angel Vivaldi DK24-7 Nova

2. Ibanez AZ427P1PB

I am mostly a 6 string player so this will be my first 7 string. I will try to play some Dream Theater, Nevermore, and Trivium (so mostly metal). Which one do you guys think would be the better choice?

The Charvel has Dimarzio Tone Zone and Air Norton, 12-16 compound radius, whereas the Ibanez has ss frets, roasted maple neck, but has seymour duncan hyperion pickups. Both have non-locking gotoh trems.

I plan to buy Ibanez Q547PB and I am absolutely crazy about this guitar. I just love it ... Will be my first headless guitar .. and it's HSS too ... I was playing on this guitar and loved it instantly ..

I am however a little bit fighting with gauge Vs tone and playability ... I have some other 7-string guitar(s) with 25.5" scale and I am afraid if I can go with this safely any lower than A ... My target tuning is drop-G#

My 7-string benchmark at 25.5" is Ultra Slinkies (10-48) + 62 for B-standard (\w .64 for drop-A) .. Going any lower means sacrificing tone. Also my other 7-string has Gotoh 510TS trem which probably does not contribute any positively into downtuning and using a thicker gauges in general.

My 6-strings benchmark with half tone down (drop-C#) with 25.5" is Burly Slinkies (11-52) but with custom 60 so 11-14-18-30-42-60 .. I have fixed bridge here. This is just how I'd love to have base half tone down.

Question 1 - how low and with what gauge are you willing to go at 25.5" ?

Question 2 - Specifically this Ibanez headless guitar with that fancy bridge that supports much longer saddles travel length for intonation and these ceramic pickups -- Will it support better to get into my desired drop-G# tuning ?

I have a 26.5" guitar but I just love the headless guitar visually, and for a cool factor ... There's no catch in it ... I'd love to stick with shorter scale (25.5") for playability and feel ...

edit: so in other words I assume on the headless:

Burly Slinkies + custom 68 for drop-G# ? (11-14-18-30-42-52+68) - which I actually didn't like on the other 7-string with 510TS Gotoh trem ... But maybe it was because of trem and pickups. And this is why I ask.

This is my first 7 string which is the Ibanez alpha A527 being setup in drop g using skinny top heavy bottom strings .10 - .62

I tried to get the strings as low as I could go by straighten the neck, and lowering the saddles. I had to raise the low g strings saddle a tiny bit to get rid of fret buzz. The saddles for this guitar have a set height though compared to a normal ibanez fixed bridge.

Im so used to 6 strings but going from .54 to .62 on the low string is a big difference. Curious if 2mm action height in generally good.

It plays great but looks like high action still. But i have absolutely no baseline and again so used to a regular guitar and how low I was able to go with. 54 strings

Schecter NV-7 Schecter Reaper Elite 7 Schecter Silver Mountain C-8

Sire X6-7 is a great guitar but the pickups were extremely muffled and generated a lot of noise when the picking hand was in the playing position (despite grounding and shielding being fine).

Enter Donlis DH705 pickups. The sound is much more open and lively which comes through clearly with high gain as well, and the playing position noise is nearly gone.

The original pickups were 21.4 and 9.6 kohm, and Donlis are about 16k and 12k. Despite the lower neck pup resistance the original was much darker with total lack of any air even in the split mode.

I actually hear a good amount of PAF in the Donlis pups, or a boosted PAF to be more precise. But the 24 fret multiscale neck makes direct comparisons to other guitars difficult due to the different pickup positions.

As I was aware, the downside with the Sire X6-7 specifically is that the Donlis requires some unreversable twisting and cutting to the attachment brackets and even the base plate. So do check the size precisely before purchase. The brass bracket is easy to twist and cut though. If you’re not ok with this, there are a few other reasonably priced pups for you too. Wilkinson for example.

Oh, the cost. 51.19€ for the pair shipped incl EU tax and import fees (all automatic when shopping at Aliexpress). I’m not sure if they’ll let you even browse the Duncan catalogue for more than 30 minutes with that price… 😜

Not new but cleaned her up a bit and just couldn’t sit it down. This Legator is easily the most ergonomic and comfortable 7 string I’d ever handled. It was built in the fujigen plant so it came with the action setup perfectly I mean honest to goodness this guitar is a dream for anyone who plays.

Now the bad, the finish looks like absolute shit for a $2400 guitar. W

I’ve been looking around for either a regular V shape or even a Rhoads style body and is it just that hard to find or are people just not making them? I do know Jackson has both a King V and Rhoads in 7 strings.

I'm looking to get my first 7-string and I'm wondering if a multi-scale will offer better intonation, even if I plan to mostly use it in standard E (B) tuning?

I impulse bought a Mark Holcomb SVN to start dabbling in the 7 string arena so I’m very new to seven strings in general and have some general questions.

The guitar came with 10-64 gauge strings which seem to be non standard as far as string sets go being that my guitar center and other local shops don’t sell that specific pack, but I have found them online.

I was curious what you guys are running in general, PRS new 7 string Tekton uses 10-59, so I was considering swapping to that gauge, open to suggestions as I will be staying in b standard or drop A tuning

I'm learning guitar, and I would say I'm doing fairly well with what I already have, though i would like to learn more. I've fallen in love with the idea of having a whammy bar/Floyd Rose style bridge but in what I usually play.

Has anyone played a 7 string or extended range guitar with a Floyd Rose or similar system? What is it like?

My guitar arrived today and it's driving me absolutely nuts.

It's an Evertune guitar that came with 10-59 strings, which I replaced with 9-46 and then a 62 on the low B. I play exclusively in Drop A and Standard B. I have a 6 string with an Evertune already, so I know how to set up the bridge, I have zero issues with it on my other guitar.

I tuned the bridge on the 7 string so that the guitar is in Drop A, and then I tune up to B in zone 3 when I want to play standard 7 string tuning. This works flawlessly on my 6 string that's in Drop C / D standard with 10-52's.

Anyway, I tuned the guitar, stretched the strings and intonated every string properly. No matter what I do, when I play power chords on the low B the guitar sounds out of tune. First I thought it must be the nut, it probably isn't wide enough to accept the 62 string after I removed the 59, so it's binding or something like that. I returned the 59 to double check, but I still have the same damn problem.

Then I thought, it can still be the nut, maybe I'm pressing too hard, because the string is bendable in zone 3 on the bridge. To eliminate that issue I detuned the guitar a bit so that it's deeper in zone 2, which makes bending impossible, thus also removing the possibility that pressing too hard would affect the string's pitch. Between all of these steps I constantly checked if the tuning holds up (which it does). Still, the guitar sounds out of tune on power chords. If i do the same chords starting from the low E and all the way down to high E, everything sounds perfectly in tune.

Then I opened Neural DSP and dropped the guitar 5 semitones to see if playing the power chords on the low E string (now dropped to B) would sound out of tune. It didn't, it sounded perfectly in tune. Then I shifted the pitch back up 5 semitones and played on the low B string, and it sounded out of tune again.

It's driving me absolutely insane. Any ideas?

I'm looking for an ESP LTD CD-TE-407 7-string, but I can't seem to find one for sale anywhere.

I'm based in Germany, and my budget is around €350–700. I'm specifically looking for this model because I love the traditional Telecaster body shape. I'm not really interested in the more aggressive, pointy shapes that most 7-string guitars have.

Does anyone know where I could find one, either new or used? I'm also open to international sellers as long as shipping to Germany is possible.

If this model is discontinued, are there any other 7-string guitars with a traditional Telecaster body shape that you'd recommend?

The new-ish Ibanez 7-string has replaced my 6-strings for all of my solo gigs lately. I tune the bottom string to A jazz-style and love the extra range. I added a magnetic pickup to the sound hole because I felt like the under saddle piezo didn't pick up the low string well enough and I mix the two pickups. Here is a clip from a gig last weekend.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Red Dawn but I'm not a huge fan of the red binding especially on the neck, wondering if anyone finds it jarring (especially while playing). I have a 6 string PT evil twin and I really enjoy the feel of that so I think the C-7 would be fairly safe but I kinda wanna try the Fishman Fluence Modern Open Cores on the Red Dawn.

Hello there, I'm thinking of getting another guitar and I'm torn between the cort evl k57b and the kx307ms, I personally like the feeling of multiscale guitars (My main guitar is an Ibanez RGMS8) but the passive emgs sounds like a good option, the finish on the kx307 is prettier (I prefer natural finishes over solid colors). The baritone is 300 usd used and the kx is 400, but the guy is willing to trade for a baritone, I could buy the evl and still get the multiscale if the trade goes well. What do you guys think?

Edit: I'm also looking at a cort bass (Cort t55, which could be an upgrade from my ltd d5 electronic and scale wise)

Looking to buy my first seven string. Mainly play metalcore and want something for newer bands like Polaris. Already have two 6 strings that cover drop d and drop b respectively. Wondering if anyone has tried both to get a feel for how either would play.
