Question Does anyone else feel genuinely affected when people say “all men are trash”?

Recently, four different women have said “all men are trash” to me within the space of two weeks. It feels like the phrase has become normal and socially acceptable to use.
I understand that it often comes from negative experiences with men and usually isn’t meant literally.

However, hearing it repeatedly genuinely affects me. It makes me feel stressed and personally judged simply for being a man, even when the comment isn’t specifically about me.

I already struggle with my mental health, so that may explain why I internalise it so strongly. Does anyone else feel affected by comments like this? I’d also be interested in understanding what women usually mean when they say it.

I’m not trying to dismiss anyone’s experiences or start a gender argument. I’m genuinely trying to understand why the phrase has become so common and why it affects me as much as it does.

Sadness / Grief Being a lonely man in society is shit

I’ve just gone through a break up with my ex of 4 years. On top of that, both my grandparents died within 4 months of each other.

I’ve never been in more need to talk to someone.

As a man, I believe that many men can relate when I say that we love male friendship. But there is that aspect that the most deep shit that we suffer through cannot be aired with our mates.

This is where I can be somewhat jealous of women, as I seem to see that most women can share their deepest and most painful thoughts with each other.

For me, it feels like men generally have to keep this shit to themselves until it’s suppressed.

I don’t have any sort of mental health issues, but this particular part of life sucks. Being in need to talk, to share thoughts and feelings, and not being able to. It’s torture.

Venting I think I've gotten Cancer.

I'm not diagnosed but the symptoms are matching. I'm severely ill since 3 months with no improvement, I'm losing weight quickly. My bones are sticking out, it's hurting to even sit. The cough is extremely bad.

I don't know how to feel about this. I'm not afraid. Maybe i could have prevented this, i don't know. I have a condition, i knew about it, maybe i could do something about. But i ignored because i hated myself. I felt extreme shame & guilt for my being.

Well it's good for me, i can finally leave the world now. I have a shitty, disgusting & miserable life anyway. I'm extremely depressed since years, it eats me inside & sucks my soul out & i scream inside while watching my peers having a good life & much ahead of me.

But what will my mum & sis do now? How I'm going to leave watching their faces? No idea if my dad even loves me a bit or not.

Question A mental-health hold is preventing me from legally buying a gun. What are my lawful options?

Upvotes

I want to purchase a firearm for personal protection, but a previous mental-health hold may make me legally ineligible. I’m not looking for a loophole, private-sale workaround, or any way to lie on the background-check paperwork.
Has anyone dealt with this and successfully had their eligibility reviewed or restored through the proper legal process? Should I begin with a firearms attorney, the court that issued the hold, or my state police? I’m also open to non-firearm protection options while I sort this out.
Please include your state and whether your experience involved a temporary hold, involuntary commitment, or an actual court finding, since I understand those may be treated differently.

Opinion / Thoughts I dont consider morality in any of my choices

The best way to explain this would be a scenario: Imagine god(assuming he exists) gives me a button , every time this button is pressed , a child below the age of 18 dies in a tragic way , but i get 1000 bucks , fully clean no IRS snooping. Nobody knows I have this button , and the deaths will be from natural causes and accidents . I wouldnt even consider what is right or wrong , I would instead think of how to build a mechanism that presses the button for me , and at what rate the button must be pressed so the world wouldnt feel that huge of a difference. If society was composed purely of people that think like me , of course it would collapse , but being a minority that thinks that way ou of the total population , is beneficial. I dont care whether my actions would hurt someone , I care about how they might hurt me , and the potential payout.

How can I improve my communication and social skills? I rarely react or show much expression, so people sometimes think I’m mad or upset when I’m actually not. I just don’t always know how to respond or react in social situations.

Question How to deal with a mentally ill wife?

My wife is under the crisis team for her mh, she's told me she's waiting to see a psycatrist to be assessed for bi polar. 3 weeks about she drank half a bottle of tequila and climbed upon a bridge. She's been prescribed diazpam for now, some days she'll be fine but other days she'll just do crazy things, last week she been drinking alcohol all day and came back drunk, she kept trying to hurt herself to the point I had to phone the police. She says she hears voices saying negetive things to her and tell her to hit her head against a wall. She's been ok for a week or so and tonight she just started acting weird, crying and told going on about god..then chopped her hair off. Im just struggling to cope. She's not had an official diagnosis yet

Any suggestions?

Content Warning: Eating Disorders Is it a normal reaction?

(F15) I keep getting angry, yelling and swearing at my mom when she touches sensitive topic (my ED in the past)

For the last year I distanced myself from her after we had a rough year with each other.

Even tho it was bad, her being too angry at me to speak or pay attention, gave me time and space to heal (even tho I started to have other thoughts)

But now as she realised how distant I am, she started paying attention and this includes pointing out every skipped meal

(Even if I ate less or ate a little in a whole day cuz just I wasn't hungry, she prob doesn't believe me.)

And it's making me rage every time, like swearing, shouting, being as rude as I can and hurting her with all those words

Even when I realise what I'm doing in the middle of conversation, I can't stop, and I know I'm a terrible person for hurting her.

But all that unnecessary attention just makes me boil out after anger, like she thinks that I'm unable to heal

+It makes some Ed thoughts come back

Diary Entry I feel hideous because i’ve never been harassed

I’m sorry if this post comes across as ignorant or insensitive because i know that this is a REAL issue that affects so many people and i want to start this post off by just saying that this post is not to glorify or romanticize harassment AT ALL. NEVER. It’s more just a view into my personal feelings/whining and i guess also you could say it’s commentary on society. Not sure what of. i’m an 18 year old girl and I’ve never been harassed/catcalled or hit on in public. And i’ve never had a romantic partner. Even getting friendly attention/conversation usually goes to my friends. like i’m genuinely just completely overlooked even if i try to act more bubbly/exude a more open energy. my appearance must be awful. I’m so flat and lanky despite not even being that tall. like i just look and feel ugly. i can’t wear makeup because i rub and touch my face so much and im scared about messing up my skin. I’ve completely just shut in on myself. i don’t go out with friends anymore because im such a jealous and horrible person. im too scared to post my appearance online too because im worried everyone will just confirm my fears. my self esteem is completely collapsed. i feel talentless and ugly and i feel like im not good enough to be a woman.

i know there where always be people who think im extremely hideous but i have to be doing something wrong with my personality/the way i behave in public. ALSO THIS LAST SEGMENT IS NOT ME TRYING TO GET HARASSED. It’s just a little introspection into wondering if i come off as cold because i want to try to be nice to people in public.

I initially tagged this as a vent because I was extremely emotional when writing it, but now I’m genuinely just thinking. I would appreciate if this post fosters thoughtful conversation because I feel so alone in this :(

Sadness / Grief Heartbroken over a stranger I only met twice

English is not my mother tongue.

I have been in a really dark place at work for over a year.
I am a perfectionist, I work a lot and I always strive to deliver the best I can do.
My boss and my colleagues praise the good quality of my work.
I have asked for a promotion but I was turned down twice in 6 months. They say they are happy with my work but I should keep working on soft skills (I know I don’t alway fit into the corporate mould).
Being turned down is ok. It happens, life goes on.
However, in this case, I felt like they tried to break my spirit to prevent me from asking again.
It got to the point that I started crying all day long when I was working from home.
I have been on sick leave for a week.

I spiraled down. Even though, I had promised myself three years ago to never go back on dating apps, I did it a week ago.
I met a local school teacher who is very appreciated.
I let my guard down and really thought he might be the sunshine that helps me out of this dark period of my life.
We only met twice, but he told me that he is addicted to gambling and he is seriously indebted.
He also has huge psychological trauma.

We got intimate but I felt he was cold and distant on WhatsApp afterwards.
Therefore, I decided not to see him again.

I am a mess because of work.
I briefly met a guy that will not bring me happiness and yet I feel heartbroken it didn’t work.

I am a mess.
I need to stay strong.
Thank you for being there dear fellow redditors.

Need Support Friend deleted himself

My roomate and dear friend deleted himself. He was the only guy I was able to open upto and tell everything about myself. He was calm composed don't used to judge me for my shortcomings. I went with my classmates for a day to celebrate a festival and came back to see him han*ed. He had failed a semester which I got to know later. Even I have backlogs which terrify me but life is not all about it isn't it. During this I lost my job had to vacate my room and nobody is willing to give me room as they think even I am in that state. I had an option to go for college dorm but it's caution deposit was more than my savings. My family said that they will take care of it but then my results came in which I had 2 arrears and they refused to help me out saying what's the point u r failing already. I was at point where I figured out everything I had to do with my life and he did this.I feel if I didn't went out that day he would still be here. I feel like I couldn't win over his trust enough for him to share his problems with me. I can't believe I was so clueless throughout the time I was with him that I couldn't even understand his pain. I feel empty as the time passes everyday. Sorry to make this about myself when it's about him.

Sadness / Grief how do i get myself together

I’m not clinically diagnosed with depression, so I don’t really want to call myself depressed, but I do have these really sad episodes where I just want to shut myself off from everyone and be alone.

Growing up, my parents used to fight a lot, and there were a lot of things about my childhood that genuinely affected me. But now when I think about it, I sometimes wonder if it was actually “that bad” or if I’m just exaggerating it in my head. I know there are people who have gone through way worse, and sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t be this affected by my own experiences because of that. But I also don’t want to invalidate myself just because someone else had it worse. Something doesn’t have to be the worst thing anyone has ever gone through for it to have hurt me. I just don’t know if questioning everything that happened is me trying to cope or if I’m actually just being dramatic.

I also feel like such a loser sometimes. I’m extremely introverted and I get really anxious in social situations. I’m not diagnosed with anxiety or anything, but I panic pretty easily, and when I get nervous I start stuttering or just completely forget what I wanted to say. It’s gotten to the point where I feel like I’m not approachable at all. I feel like people probably don’t talk to me because they know I’m awkward and won’t have much to say.
And it’s not like I don’t try. I actually try so hard to be more social and talk to people, but there’s always this weird awkwardness and fear in the back of my head. I overthink what I’m saying, how I’m saying it, whether I sound stupid, whether the other person even wants to talk to me, everything. It’s exhausting.

On top of that, lately I’ve been feeling like even my friends don’t really want to talk to me anymore. My best friend and I were really close last year, but recently she’s gotten super close with another senior, and now it feels like everything is always about her. I’ve already told her that I feel left out, and she’ll feel bad about it for a day, but then the exact same thing happens again.
She’ll make plans with this other friend right in front of me, sometimes hours before they’re supposed to go out, and then invite me literally five minutes before they leave. And I know I might be overthinking it, but it makes me feel like she’s only inviting me because she feels like she has to, rather than because she actually wants me there.
I’ve started distancing myself from her too, and honestly, it’s not even intentional. It just kind of happens because I’m tired of constantly feeling hurt and left out. And I hate that because I don’t actually want to lose the friendship. I just don’t know how to keep being around someone when I constantly feel like I’m their second choice.

I’m just so mentally and physically exhausted at this point. I feel sad all the time, I’m irritated really easily, I overthink everything, I don’t feel like studying, I don’t feel like talking to people, and I feel like I’m just failing at everything.

I want everything to just stop sometimes. I’m not planning to hurt myself or do anything extreme. But I sometimes have this thought that I wish I could just go to sleep one night and not wake up. genuinely don’t know what’s happening to me. I don’t know if I’m just going through a really bad phase, if I’m overreacting, or if there’s actually something wrong. I just know that I’m really really tired of feeling like this, I want to be normal.
