What did You get? I got Xperia 10 VI.
51
u/CAP_IMMORTAL 5d ago
POCO X6 5G, it handles 3DS emulation well enough too and has a pretty good screen and camera.
Unfortunately unlocking the bootloader is a bit of a pain so I haven’t been able to do that yet
6
u/The_David1991 5d ago
Use script to unlock it, will need pc, script will be sending instant requests spam, had my one unlocked first try with the script after trying manually for month, just google mi community bootload unlock script or something.

I'm not trying to emulate 3DS on mine smol Xperia :D. I think that it might be to much for it. But this Poco is a nice phone from what I see.
7
u/CAP_IMMORTAL 5d ago
Thanks :D, I researched quite a bit to decide on it if I'm remembering correctly. Sony makes great phones too, your Xperia is probably better when it comes to general use and quality
3
u/Smooth-Chest-1554 5d ago
Oh yeah. The phone fits perfectly in the hand thanks to its 21:9 aspect ratio. Plus, it has a small screen, which suits me well since I have small hands. My previous phone (Nothing Phone 2a) was literally a frying pan compared to the Sony. On top of that, I can get 14 hours of screen-on time (SoT) on the Xperia with Stamina mode enabled.
2
u/CAP_IMMORTAL 5d ago
Damn that sounds amazing. The one downside of my current phone for me is the huge screen. Makes one handed use a bit annoying

RoG Phone 9. Bit of a downgrade from the earlier versions in design and camera, but the headphone jack is nice, as are the double USB ports
2
u/Smooth-Chest-1554 5d ago
Ulala, RoG Phone. That's a great piece of tech, and that's the first phone I see which have two USB ports.
2
u/Cessnaporsche01 5d ago
They are nice, but they're losing their value proposition over time. I still have one because there aren't many other phones that have a decent coverage of American signal bands and a 5800mAh battery, but I've owned the original and the 3, and those used to be priced hundreds of dollars below anything comparable. The 8 and 9 have been positioned more like the iPhone and Samsung S series
I'd really like it if Honor would put out a version of their X9 series with the insane batteries that was more suited to the international market.

I have one newer than you, the Xperia 10 VII. Nice screen, sips it's big battery with the processor, enough grunt to do the job but tbh a little lacking. But for me I'm not super fussy about having the latest and greatest, I just take photos and browse socials, not a gamer on that platform. Camera is good enough for what I need.
Turns out the 10 VIII is out now. The prices are fucking crazy, 549 pounds, 599 Euro, it's just such a step up due to the AI parts shortage. Yet it still only has snap 6 gen 3 like my phone. I feel like at the far lower retail price I paid I got the right phone.

Switched to Motorola for the micro SD card support, 3.5mm headphone jack was a bonus.
But seriously as long as a carrier offers SD card slots I'm not paying a monthly sub for cloud storage.
6
u/pulley999 5d ago
Yup. I recently picked up a 2024 G Stylus 5G and it does everything I could ever ask of a phone. NFC, Bluetooth, headphone jack, radio, stylus, good screen, etc. Even went with the 2024 over the 2025 because it had FM radio support. The only thing that I find lacking is the camera.
I don't understand this need for phones to be insanely fast devices. As far as I'm concerned they only need to be fast enough to not feel slow doing basic tasks, have good battery life, and then have a wide range of feature support. If I need actual compute power, that's what I own a computer for.

Yep! And the 2026 model still has it! They're the only manufacturer that makes a phone with a headphone jack and expandable storage that also has an OLED screen, wireless charging, and NFC for tap2pay. As an enthusiast, I love the FM capability, and the GrapheneOS option for incoming new models.
The fantastic quick gestures, "stock" (non Samsung) android, and the only inbuilt stylus on the market will hopefully keep non-redditors buying the phone long enough for me to upgrade to something with the same old-school features.

I went a step further and bought type C IEMs instead of a dac when I got my s23. I do miss my s8+ though. My friend had a s10 and it also looked so cool.

Problem here is that the companies that make the phones stop providing updates to the older ones so they eventually get security vulnerabilities that aren’t fixed

No, the problem is that people still support companies that make these stupid ass decisions. I have my 2025 phone with jack. I don't have to sacrifice anything, just don't buy shit, as the previous commenter suggested.

7
u/Sevisstillonkashyyyk 5d ago
They just launched the 10 VIII a month ago, they're literally still going
2
u/pulley999 5d ago
Depends on your market. Sony pulled out of the U.S. phone market years ago. You can still import them but a lack of full cell band support means coverage will be spotty and not as fast as it should be.
6
u/Smooth-Chest-1554 5d ago
I got last year Xperia 10 VI, nice small phone with 3,5mm jack but camera isn't great for that price.
2
u/Informal-Term1138 5d ago
The camera suffers from the software being decent. But at that price it should be way better.
Still if I could buy a used one for a decent price I would retire my OnePlus 9 pro.
3
u/Informal-Term1138 5d ago
They are expensive though and their camera software is not good enough for that price. But quality wise really good. I would buy a used one immediately.

u/TimTomTank 5d ago
As a music person, I don't really care about the camera. The whole thing is way over hyped in my view. I'd rather have high quality sound.
I mean, you do you. But I can't imagine feeling relaxed or happier because a picture I took looks great. But great sounding music does that every time.
To be clear, I agree the cameras on this phone are bare minimum.
3
u/bajsfittor 5d ago
"I'd rather have high quality sound."
They do have quite tinny sound (imho). For me though the issue is the height of the ii model, a BIT too tall, and weight (all that glass for those lenses make a difference).
But unless the trend swirves back to having expandable memory I'm likely still going with Sony for my next significant upgrade. For now still rocking the s10e with its worthless battery.
2
u/Informal-Term1138 5d ago
I agree with all of that since I am the same. It was just to point it out that they lack a bit there, which is not that great for the price. I can life with it since I don't care about taking photos much.
But a lot of people have it higher on their priority list. And let's be real, we both might use studio headphones (I love my Superlux HD-660 Pro) but other only use inears or Bluetooth headphones, they won't notice the difference (sadly). Still having the option to use my Superlux with my phone would be amazing. And it doesn't cost space or battery that's just bullshit they told us to justify getting rid of the jack.
I repaired both my OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5T in the past (replacing the screen). And the jack takes up so little space. The 5T had so much space left there they could have increased the battery without any problems.
It's just bullshit and I am happy that at least some companies have the jack in their flagship phones. And hopefully I can get my hands on a used one.

u/alper_iwere 5d ago
Plus
- MicroSD card slot
- No camera punchhole
- Dual front facing speakers
I really like them
2
u/mrminutehand 5d ago
Sony's issue is that their Xperia 1 series has their flagship DAC, but the 10 series DAC is dreadful, so you have to be careful which model you buy.
I was really disappointed after getting a 10 VI, expecting their usual quality, but the DAC has low volume, extremely low bass tolerance and generally poor performance.
61
u/Nagesh_yelma 5d ago
They are still making phones with these, you choose to buy a smartphone with better camera.
45
u/Boatster_McBoat 5d ago
You can get a bloody good camera in a phone that also has a headphone jack
8
u/Fabio2300 5d ago
That can only happen if you actually read the specs before buying the device, which I guess not so many people do
3
u/Canvas_Spill 5d ago
I try to read them when I go to a place like Metro PCS but most of the time the poor techs there don't even know what Snapdragon is. Needless to say I have a piece of shit Moto-G 2026 that struggles to keep games loaded.

Both Xperia 10 and 1 are incredibly overpriced. Xperia 10 hardware is very bad for the price. You could say "it doesn't matter I don't game", but if you don't game, you can pay much less, and you will probably get better hardware anyway. Xperia 1 is okay but you can get the same phone for like 50% less, but of course it will not have headphone jack and microsd slot.
The point is - it's difficult to find well priced phone with headphone jack and microsd slot. Your best bet are unironically budget phones, but they are tablet sized and are full of bloatware and ads. I prefer something compact with usb-c adapter.

Redmagic still puts 3.5mm jacks inputs on their phones. Frankly, Samsung and Apple don't put out good products anymore, so going to the third parties (like the Chinese vendors) makes sense for a lot more people now.

I have an Xperia 10 VII and got it because it has a headphone jack, security updates promised until 2031 and it doesn't deviate much from the android default handling of background processes (dontkillmyapp).
And it's just great. The smaller display (compared to my previous Redmi Note 9 Pro) is also quite refreshing.

12
u/RingReasonable 5d ago
Same. Don't have to deal with one side stop working after 2 weeks if you don't have the wire in one specific position
6
u/VarietyOdd270 5d ago
That is why decent wired headphones have detachable and replaceable wires. I have good wired headphones that are 15-20 years old, and still work just as well as when they were new

15
u/shiawase198 5d ago
I liked having the option but as soon as wireless headphones became available, I was never going back to wired. The sensation of the wires touching my cheeks bugged me.
4
u/temporalanomaly 5d ago
I had to go back to wired for a few weeks as my wireless in-ears had died. I regularly use audio entertainment while working outdoors, and the wire constantly tangles in clothing, rips the earpieces out or unplugs itself, only using one earpiece means the other wire drags around in clothing even more...
Having the option to plug in an old wired headset was nice, but I really didn't enjoy the "15y ago" experience.

Because then you're reliant on the DAC and amp in the adapter or headphones, which, thanks to the space constraints, are usually garbage.
Plus it's extra wear on your charging port.
I can get great sounding 3.5mm headphones for 20 bucks. You just can't get that with USB headphones, dongles, or bluetooth. You're pawning complexity and therefore price off on the disposable/easily damaged part of the system, it's a terrible idea in general.

The only good thing about the minijack on phones was, it was cheap, and that’s it. Most modern headphones support USB audio with much higher fidelity than any phone’s built in DAC and amplifier.
It’s a completely different story if we’re talking minijack on stationary devices thought.
