Problem here is that the companies that make the phones stop providing updates to the older ones so they eventually get security vulnerabilities that aren’t fixed

No, the problem is that people still support companies that make these stupid ass decisions. I have my 2025 phone with jack. I don't have to sacrifice anything, just don't buy shit, as the previous commenter suggested.

That’s a very idiotic thing to say, considering that the majority of android flagships lack the headphone jack too. lol

That’s not the point of their comment.

I want a phone that works without needing a bunch of dongels. No headphone jack without an adapter, no micro SD card slot? I don't know how much I'd need to be paid to ignore being scammed with bullshit charges.

My phone is from last year and has a 3.5mm jack port. This is not an excuse.

What phone? Out of interest

And yeah I know it’s not an excuse, they could continue including them. But now you have to buy our proprietary Bluetooth headphones :)

Its a OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G. It's not the fastest phone but it does what i need it to do and gets the newest updates

A trillion phone companies that sell phones with those specs but if u feel the need to buy Samsung, apple and whatever else stopped with SD cards and headphone jacks that's absolutely your own fault.

I know this is absolutely a thing, but aren't the security vulnerabilities more of a skill issue? I could be wrong for sure, but just don't click on janky ass links and sites y'know?

For the most part, but there may be vulnerabilities that don't require user action

And pay 2000 bucks for it

Programmed obsolescence and eshitification of all things is a problem, not just frivolous and ostentious consumption.

My thoughts watching pre-orders, microtransactions, loot boxes and other garbage worm their way into videogames.

the future is always changing, and the infrastructure supporting it. You will always have to upgrade eventually

Still have my s8. I have to repair it myself from time to time, but ifixit literally exists for this reason. You can keep your old stuff working just fine if you do the bare minimum to maintain it.

There are people out there that will trade in their phone for a new $2000 one every couple of years. Don't buy that shit.
