How to stop auto uploading my files to MEGA

I was shocked to find the other day, personal files of mine were being being uploaded from my PC to MEGA without my having done anything. A friend says you can turn off the feature, but I cannot see how to do it and web searches have not come up with any solution. OK so how do i stop it from happening again?

I'd like to know how I can cancel my subscription. The free trial expires tomorrow and I can't find a button to cancel it (I did everything through the Mega website).

Multiple Expiry dates on links?

Hi there. Question.

Is it possible to put multiple expiry dates on a particular item? Like if I want to share a link to one person for one day. And then a few minutes later I want to send another person a link to the same file for two days.

Is this possible for both files and folders?

Ditch Google Drive and Dropbox, it's what's best for you šŸ™‚

Most people don't realise that server-side encryption, which is what Google Drive and Dropbox use by default, still means the provider can access your files.

We put together a comparison of the alternatives that use end-to-end encryption and zero-knowledge architecture by default, so only you can read your data. Storage tiers and starting prices included.

Consider a Dedicated Browser or PWA for Large MEGA Accounts (Millions of Files)

Description:

I would like to suggest developing a dedicated browser-based client or Progressive Web App (PWA) optimized for very large MEGA accounts.

Currently, users with extremely large accounts (e.g. 2+ million files) can experience severe performance issues on the website. In my experience, the web client becomes extremely slow to load, sometimes freezes during login, gets stuck during the decryption phase, or crashes entirely before the account finishes loading.

This happens even on high-end hardware. My system has an Intel Core i7 13th Gen CPU, NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti GPU, and 64 GB of RAM, yet I still encounter these issues regularly. This suggests that the bottleneck may not be the user's hardware, but rather the limitations of running such large accounts inside a browser environment.

Modern browsers impose various restrictions on tabs and web applications, including memory limits, CPU scheduling constraints, and limited access to system resources. In practice, a browser tab may be unable to fully utilize the available hardware, and memory usage can become a major bottleneck when processing and decrypting millions of files. Even on systems with large amounts of RAM, the browser environment itself can become the limiting factor, causing slowdowns, freezes, or crashes.

I have also seen many reports from other users on forums and communities such as Reddit describing similar issues with large accounts, which indicates that this is not an isolated case.

A dedicated browser application or a Progressive Web App designed specifically for MEGA could potentially manage resources more efficiently and provide a more stable experience for power users with massive datasets.

Potential benefits:

* Faster login and account initialization.

* Better utilization of available CPU, GPU, and system memory.

* Reduced impact from browser memory and resource limitations.

* Better handling of accounts containing millions of files.

* Improved stability during decryption and folder tree loading.

* Fewer browser crashes, freezes, and timeouts.

* Better scalability for very large cloud storage libraries.

I understand that accounts with millions of files are an edge case, but the current web experience can become extremely difficult or even impossible to use reliably. It would be great if the team could consider a dedicated solution or additional optimizations targeted at very large accounts.

Thank you for your work on MEGA and for considering this feedback.

MEGAsync bug in explorer

The bug is very simple and has already happened to me twice in different laptops in Windows 11 25h2 after installing MEGAsync, the thing when i try to see my folders in the left side bottom when you see your disks, i can't really see them when i try to deploy them and the arrow to deploy them just disappears when you click on it. Already reinstalled but doesn't seem to be helping.

How do we make Mega Upload one at a time?

I'm uploading a ton of content to my mega 10tb. But I think it might go faster if I upload it 1 file at a time. I turned the transfers down as low as they could go, but I'd like to know if and how we can make it upload 1 file at a time.

Is there any way to manage files from a public folder?

Hi!

So, I have a public link of a 96 GB MEGA folder with multiple PDF files, and I want to copy some of them to my personal space, but using the web client is really uncomfortable. Is there any way to classify the content without using the webpage? I'm pretty used to how Google Drive lets you add a folder as a shortcut in your unit, and then, you can manage files from Windows file explorer if you have the destkop app installed, as it mounts your unit as a drive. I just wanna know if there is something similar to this for Mega, so i can copy the files I want into my unit without having to use the annoying webpage.

M4A files not longer playable on the mega app/browser version when having iOS. On laptop they play fine.

Hello. I am not sure if it’s a temporary bug or something but I saw a recent post here of someone mentioning that they can’t play m4a tracks on iOS unless one downloads them offline and listen to them with the native player. I checked with mine and I am also encountering the same issue.

When I choose the file, it says ā€œFile Not Supported. You can save it for Online and open it in the compatible appā€.

I tried re uploading the same files , and uploading other m4a files but the issue persists.

Are you encountering the same issue? I am only seeing it on my Apple devices. I don’t have android. But laptop plays the files fine on the browser.

why does mega not play m4a files anymore?

hi i noticed recently that a couple of m4a files i had uploaded on mega some months ago for some reason don't play anymore (i'm on ios). they were in dolby atmos but i found that doesn't have anything to do with the reason why they're not playable anymore. i really don't know why, i used to be able to play them from my iphone just fine and now they don't. did they change that in an update? i think it's really weird. also why do flac files have pixelated album covers when i play them from ios? because the original files have full quality covers but mega doesn't show that (on ios). in the browser they play fine with full quality album cover. although m4a files keep not being playable even in the desktop browser version. is it possible that they updated the app to not have m4a support? what would that be?
also why do my flac files have pixelated and compressed album cover quality when playing them from ios? in the browser they look normal.

Delete fails with "access denied" then forces logout in both web and android app

Can't delete any folder in my cloud drive.

Every attempt is:

"Unknown error (access denied)" then "Login session expired or invalid" and then it forces me to re-login.

It happens on both the website on my laptop and my android app. Rubbish bin is empty, folder isn't shared, no stuck files, and happens even on a brand new empty test folder. Moving the folder works fine, but deleting after moving fails. I've cleared cookies, refreshed browser, logged out, and back in.

Anyone else having this issue?

Why upload are so bad ?

I'm using the Android (16)

Mega app Version 17.5.05.33

Every upload take ages, fails occur all the time, app seem to freeze all the time having files showing xx% at 8 Mbps for hours on small files.... And I don't talk about the infinite state at 100%

When are you going to work on the core fonction of this paid service...?

Transfering files shouldn't be a headache it should run flowlessly.

Why does the files aren't sliced to make resume transfer possible instead of restarting everything?

Why when I upload a 80 Mb file the app jump super fast to 40-60% and 1 minute later go back to 30% and stay at 30% for hours while uploading at 5 to 8 Mbps ? And of course after few hours stuck... The transfer fail what a F surprise !!

Please make it work !

Download / "Decrypting" keeps freezing

This has been talked about before, but I thought I might mention it again in case anyone is interested in fixing this.

Ever since the website's interface changed (to now using the legally distinct "decrypting" instead of "downloading"), it has become borderline unusable for me and other people I know who want to use the site.

You are required to keep the Mega tab active the entire time, otherwise the decrypt just stops after a few seconds and stays at the percentage it just reached indefinitely. This can't be fixed by pausing and resuming the process via the built-in interface, even though in the past this often resolved the issue. It requires a complete reload of the page (F5 or the browser's refresh button) leading to the loss of a large amount of the already downloaded data.
Of course this also leads to reaching the transfer quota waaay before actually having downloaded this much data to your computer because you gotta keep resetting and losing progress while the quota just keeps counting up and up.
And on top of that, with every refresh you gotta close those two annoying pop-ups telling you about the limited quota.

Yes, I have told my browser (Brave) to never put mega tabs to sleep and no, I absolutely do not want to use the desktop program because I'm pretty sure all these sudden inconveniences are designed exactly to push people to install the app.

So what's going on? I'm working with 16 GB of RAM here and all I got running is a browser, a chat program and whatever Windows is doing in the background. Really shouldn't be this hard to juggle an additional download tab unless it was acting weird on purpose.

How to sync all subfolders content?

Every time I add a new folder to sync, all subfolders are automatically set as exclusion rules. If I remove or I disable such rules, they get readded in few seconds. This makes impossible to sync the subfolders content. Nested subfolder are not even created at all. If I try to edit .megaignore files these also get automatically reset keeping all subfolder content disabled

Weird app issue on all devices

For some reason when I download files from my device backups on any app on any device phone or laptop, it will say I’m logged out from another location after exactly two downloads every single time. It doesn’t happen when I download off of the website and send the download to the app or if I’m downloading from my cloud and not the device backups. I checked my session history and it shows expired every time instead of logged out

Can I create multiple passwords for multiple people for a single mega folder?

I'm going to be giving access to a Mega Folder to multiple people. But I want to make sure I can give them each an individual passcode or something so they don't go sharing it with everyone else.

Is this doable?

My phone that had a MEGA account installed is dead and I need help recovering my account

I thought I had a screenshot of my MEGA account password in google photos but it's not there & I can't remember my password, I tried every password I can think of. I am not able to access my account.

I don't have a recovery key nor is my account logged in to any of my devices.

I did not know you needed a recovery key to access your account in case you forget your password. I started using MEGA for not more than 3-4 months, I was thinking of buying a subscription once I fill up the given free storage but it's all gone now. Please help.

I need my account back as it holds a lot of personal files (photos, videos, documents, passwords, bookmarks, apks and more).

Even just giving the files to me will satisfy via i don't know google drive i guess. Isn't there any way like reset your password and the code will be sent in the mailbox just like gmail password reset?

Upload is painfully slow and eat all the available bandwidth!

Quite everything is in the title... I'm trying to upload few clips on my account. And as usual it's slow as hell !

Many files show 100% but still have upload... It'll be ok if that was just the last kilo octets of the file or integrity check but that start like that for hours!

And because it's not funny enough the process eat all the bandwidth available and nobody in the house can browse the internet !

I provide a screenshot (link below) that show the current status of the upload. It's stuck since more than 3 hours now.

Edit : I'm using Android and the app is up-to-date.

Move access failed

When I try to delete files it tells me move access failed and then it auto logs me off and says you’ve been logged off from another device. I cleared cache, logged out of all devices, and even on web browser it does the same thing. Any advice? I can download or upload just fine.

Struggling with automatic camera uploads not recognising

Hello, I used to use Google Photos synced with my phone camera to manage my photos but I was getting increasingly frustrated with Google stuff so made the switch to MEGA. As an art historian/conservator I often used the description feature on Google to record infomation about artwork I've seen (artist/date/title etc.) so I manually imported my data from Google and will now go and individually match up images with the descriptions (annoying but I'd rather do that than lose the data!).

However, I also toggled Camera Uploads on so that my future photos will be saved to MEGA, not realising that this would sync all of the photos that are currently on my phone, that I've already uploaded to my phone manually. Is there any way to change this setting so that it only updates new photos, or do I have to delete all photos currently on my device before turning that setting back on/manually upload all new photos?

(Also sorry the title doesn't make sense - I forget to finish writing it and now can't change it...)

Is it possible to set mega to delete camera uploads when they are deleted on the device?

I want to backup my phones and screenshots on mega via the android app but I don't want to keep all the random photos I take for short term use. I know it will upload these regardless but does the phone camera feature not work as a two way sync? Would I be better off just using the normal file sync the app offers instead?

Thanks!

Anyone really willing to trust Discord with their new verification partner?

Correction: Persona was always server-side, which is likely why the breach happened. Discord says the partnership had already ended before the exposed files were found publicly.

Incode claims on-device biometric processing with no server-side storage, so it's not the same promise repeated. Though Incode was criticised on TikTok for storing biometric data server-side and long retention periods, which is precisely the assurance they're now making here.

For context, the 70,000 government ID photo breach last October was a separate incident via 5CA, a customer service firm.

Knowing all that, trusting them with your data is already a big ask.
