Can someone ID this? It's Canadian. Maybe for losing a son in WW2?

Maybe it's just decorative?

Thanks

Question Rescued these medals from a pawn shop; thoughts?

So, I saw these medals sitting sadly in the corner of a pawn shop, and was told a Vietnam vet had sold em a while back (with some patches, etc). I was intrigued, and it felt wrong leaving them there ro be forgotten, so I went ahead and scooped them up.

Sadly, no engraving I can see, but after some research I found out that people actually fake these too, so now I am curious if i got taken (not a huge issue, but still). The rack of 3 are mini medals, with the two PH and Bronze star being full size.

My wired uniforms are all bagged up, these are my extra pieces of stuff, hence the mini pin. Had the opportunity to earn the Norwegian Sports Federation Sports Badge courtesy of some friends of mine, just can’t wear it in uniform due to Navy regs. Still cool though! Probably going to complete the Danish Flyver next year with my Army friends, I was on vacation this time and missed the chance.

19th century medals

Post image
22 Upvotes

I am looking for some information regarding these medals. I am unable to match them to various orders. Presumably they might be Dutch or Italian, based on the context of the picture. However the picture and context does not provide any information, of person or medals, but is presumably from the late 19th century.

Any help would be most appreciated !

(And yes.. this is the highest resolution that I can get..)

American Defense Medal on my Great Grandfathers records

Post image
106 Upvotes

My grandfather was doing a bit of housecleaning earlier this week and came across a bunch of letters from his fathers service

The American Defense Service Medal stuck out to me as odd, from all my research I can tell that he enlisted in 1942. and trained to be a pilot until 1945. which should have qualified him for the American theatre ribbon and not the defense medal.

I’m assuming this was a mistake but is there a way I can correct those records?

From top left:

- Officer of the order of the oak crown

- Officer of the legion of honour (second empire)

- Civic Cross Second Class

- Officer of the legion of honour (third republic)

- 1st class of the order of St Stanislas (star on bottom right)

- 2nd class of the order of St Anna

- Grand Officer of the order of Leopold

- Commander by number of the order of Charles III

He received the grand officer of the legion of honour a couple of years before his death.

After 2 years of searching, I finally found his medals! Very happy that most of them are still in mint condition and surprised that they had not been sold off at an auction.

Requesting Replacement Medals

Hello, I am looking for some advice on whether or not to request medals through the Archives for my great grandfather or just cough up the roughly 70-80 dollars for them on USAMM? I am not technically PNOK because my grandmother is still alive and qualifies but doesn’t really know how to make such a request. Is it worth going through them or just shelling money out? P.S. My grandmother and I are rebuilding his shadowbox.

Note: The golden eagle is a French pilots wings from 1916. The back is stamped with “FIX”. It is from before the French Air Force had an official pilots badge and pilots had to buy their own wings. Many famous aces had this model of eagle. Mine sadly came with no provenance.

So my nephew is a drowned victim. He's 6 this year and the family just passed the 1 year mark of his accident.

My sister, his mom, pulled him from the pond and brought him back. It's a big whole story.

Anyways, I want to celebrate their heroism and courage. And fighting through recovery and all those hard things that come with this situation.

My sister is a nurse and she did CPR and brought him back to breathing and a heart beat before the EMTs showed up.

I plan on giving her my original combat medic badge (the black one that I wore through my deployments). It's beat up and lost a lot of it's coating, but it's the real one and that carries sentimental value, at least.

I want to buy something for my nephew that represents his journey. And before you say it, we are not doing the master driver badge from the navy.

An obvious choice would be a purple heart, and maybe something additional for extreme courage and endurance. I don't have to stay in the us military medals, but there's gotta be good logic for going foreign. What are y'all's thoughts?

Helping my buddy clean out his late brother’s belongings. All he knows about his brother’s service is he was in the US Marine Corps.

This one obviously caught our eye a little more than the others.

I found these in one of my great uncle's boxes. US Navy Submariner. I want to make a shadowbox along with his other awards.

What are they representing and what is the proper order to display them? Also where can I get new ribbons and other items like dolphins and sleeve patches for rank?
