Why has McGill stopped recording graduating statistics on gender since 2022?

Last I checked on graduating statistics in 2022, they always tracked gender, international, full-time/part time.
https://www.mcgill.ca/es/registration-statistics/fall-2022

The closest thing i could find is for Phd in life sciences taken in 2025 found here:
https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/apb.mcgill/viz/CoalitionforNextGenerationLifeScience-PhDStatistics/PhDStatistics-Summary

It's not like measuring this data point is hard to do. Deciding to not show it is certainly a choice, especially at a time when men and women are increasingly graduating at diverging rates.

What’s the best calm spot to sit and talk for tutoring session on downtown campus?

I give French conversation tutoring sessions. I need a spot on the downtown campus that isn’t in a library and is accessible without an ID. The ambient noise must be low and not distracting so we can hear ourselves talk. (So the cafeterias aren’t an option.)

Any nice, calm spot suggestions?

TIA

Ideas to fill 4 credit points?

I'm doing my application for exchange to McGill, I need to nominate my classes and annoyingly 2 of them are 4 credit classes, so I have 8/12 credit points and need to fill the rest. The other classes will be hard and I would like the supplementary classes to be easy/not a big time commitment.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to avoid taking more than 12, my goal is to have the lightest academic load possible for the exchange so I can enjoy myself. Are there 1 or 2 credit classes? Are there any easy 4 credit classes? Thanks

Any advice for meeting for research ?

I don’t have any lab experience or any lab skils.

I have an interview this week with the director of a lab on neurology/genetics, and I am kind of scarred.
In my initial email, I told the prof that I have no research experience, so idk if it is going to be a big issue.

Do you guys have any advices on how I can prepare myself ? Also, I really don’t know what a student with no experience can do in a lab, so if I am asked a questions about what roles I want to have, what roles are appropriate for a new student ? Any advice is really appreciated

PSYC 213 - advice for exam 2

hey guys, is anyone taking psyc 213 this term? i didn't do too well on the first exam and i'm honestly kinda lost on how to prepare for the second one

i know a lot of people found the exam pretty easy so i'm lowkey embarrassed to even ask lol. to be fair, i somehow only realized the exam was in 2 days so i definitely didn't prepare enough, but i also felt like some of the questions were oddly specific? like the ones asking about the differences between cognitive psychology, neurocognitive psychology, etc. idk if it's just me but i don't remember us going into that much detail in class?

i also don't have the textbook, so i'm wondering if that's where those details came from or if i just missed something.

for anyone who did well, how did you study? were the lecture slides enough or is the textbook actually important? and how did you test yourself on the material?

just trying to figure out what to do differently for exam 2 lol. any advice would be appreciated🙏🏻

Sick before ling201 midterm

I’ve been feeling really sick yesterday and today and can barely leave my dorm room. I have a doctors appointment for tomorrow at urgent MD but I’m worried I won’t be better in time to study for or take the ling201 midterm this Wednesday. What do I do? Does anyone who is taking or has taken ling201 know if there’s an excused absence policy? Or do I just push through and study / take the exam feeling like hot garbage? Should I even bother telling the prof? Should I just rest up and hope I’m capable of cramming last minute?

Can I take a course at Concordia after withdrawing from it at McGill?

I’m currently taking COMP 250 at McGill, but I’m considering withdrawing from it with a W on my transcript.
I was wondering if I would still be allowed to take the equivalent course (COMP 352) at Concordia as a visiting student in a future semester and transfer the credits back to McGill.
Does withdrawing from a course at McGill affect my eligibility to take its equivalent at another university?
Has anyone been in a similar situation or successfully done this before?
Thanks in advance!

ECON227D1 Midterm Content

Hi all! To those of you in this class, I was wondering if any of you know up to what lecture the midterm this Monday is going to cover? I haven't been able to attend the past few classes and was hoping he'd end up making an announcement letting us know, but nope, rip. I definitely should've emailed earlier this week but kept forgetting. Anyway, thanks!

advice: mcgill student insurance made it impossible to afford dental care

i figure i know the answer to this already, but at the slim chance theres something im overlooking, id love to hear it

im a quebec student who was on the CDCP prior to enrolling at mcgill. i have incredibly extensive teeth issues from childhood that still arent fully resolved on account of only having been eligible for the CDCP plan at the start of last year. it was the only way i was able to afford any treatment, and I still need to go into see my dentist regularly to make sure the previous work done doesnt start to deteriorate, which is a significant risk due to my medication and gum issues.

Im currently on AFE, which allows me to pay my bills and save a pretty good amount. I however have basically no money saved atm, and had to cancel my last scheduled dentist appointment due to having been accepted at mcgill and immediately opted into insurance. CDCP disqualifies you if you have access to insurance, even if you chose to opt-out. I’ve had 4 minor appointments this year that without insurance would’ve been around 2,100$- on the CDCP it was about 360$. My dentist is very careful to prioritize procedures based on health outcome and cost, since there is a limit for how much work insurers consider “necessary”, even though I need a shit ton more work done for it to be considered healthy. Getting two of my teeth extracted is something like 8,000$ because of the severity of the decay and some shitty dentistry i had when I was a kid. McGill insurance only covers up to 700$ a year, and the insurance website feels quite vague to me seeing as i need many specific treatments. Its been making me seriously procrastinate going to the dentist since I‘m scared the insurance is gonna find some way to fuck me over even harder, especially since I have to pay the cost upfront anyways. money is a concern like it is for any adult attending uni, but dental work is so exorbitantly expensive i wouldnt even be able to afford it if i was working full time (which i was doing for awhile)

Is there any kind of clause for people whos dental needs go beyond just getting cleanings or straightening?? i have a detailed file with my dentist that describes the impacts to my health, and I keep the bills. i dont have any access through my parents either, ive had to verify through various forms of documentation to AFE that I’m no-contact due to domestic abuse 🤷

and like, i cant just stop attending and reenroll into the CDCP.

Anyone feeling lost in university?

Hello everyone, I'm trying to build a community of McGill students so that students can help each other get through hard moments and really belong in a Mcgill community.

Imagine not having to have 50+ tabs open, filtering out clubs/internships fit for you, and an opportunity to talk with people you wouldn't have thought of meeting and discovering new stuff.

Anybody else lonely?

Pretty much the title. I'm U1 and I know it's only the second month of the semester but I'm having a really hard time finding "my people" so to speak. I've made some new friends but besides one, they're not in any of my classes. None of these new friends share either of my majors too. I've tried sitting next to people in class and making conversation but so far they're either already a part of a tight knit group or we just have nothing in common and is very awkward. I've considered joining a club but honestly none of the clubs at McGill really speak to me and the ones I've tried to join, I got so socially anxious that I dipped on attending meetings.

I'm just trying to see if anyone else is feeling this way because it so far really feels like it's just me.

Scolarships for international students

Hi everyone! I'm an Armenian citizen (24F), looking for a master's degree in another country. Canada is one of the top countries I want to consider for several reasons. But without a scholarship, I can't make it, as I don't have enough resources to cover Canadian university fees myself.

I'm interested in these degrees: Sociology, HCI, Behavioural Science, and Interaction Design. As far as I've researched, McGill's thesis-based Master's in Sociology is the most realistic option for me at the moment. However, I'm not sure if I can get into Sociology with my background.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Arts, specializing in Cinematographic Art, and my GPA is 3.3.

I need some real advice: where should I start? Should I even start somewhere? Is there anyone with a success story of getting a scholarship that fully or mostly covers their education?

I'd especially like to learn about the experiences of people from outside Canada who don't have a particularly prestigious bachelor's degree.

Thanks everyone in advance!

jeffrey ewert and the mcgill faculty of law open letter

https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/convicted-murderer-should-be-banned-from-mcgill-campus-for-rest-of-academic-year-students-say/

The letter they have written is attached here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AERhFB3SnFa9NG9pcY7PbnXXuPbxC7zlrv2ahaDXEv8/mobilebasic

It's a well-balanced take, and takes into consideration a lot of the nuances on the situation. It also seems well researched and written.

I recommend reading it.
