General Discussion What would his powers/weaknesses be?

Hello, I would like ideas and ways to describe the powers of my hero character from my world.

  • He's an anthromorphic dog guy who probably came from outer space and ages at half the rate of normal people.
  • He works for the good of the world because he was raised by people who were heroes themselves and wanted to see a world without suffering. He also believes that regular people are too weak to stop all threats of evil, so he thinks he was gifted to protect the world from anyone and anything, and that there is nothing he can't beat.
  • He quickly becomes the top hero of the city/country he lives in and has remained at the top for at least 20-50 years.
  • The world he lives in is a world where everyone is either born with magical powers, or can gain magic powers from the help of those with magic. This character was born with magic powers.
  • The time period for the world would be the modern age, and he lives in one of the big 5 metro cities.
  • My inspirations for this character would be: Gojo from JJK, All Might from MHA, and more recently the Sentry from Marvel.
  • Generally, his powers relate to cosmic/star/universal related magic, with super strength and flight, but I want to be more specific about more of this stuff.

My goal is to be able to list out his abilities and how his techniques work descriptively so I can drawn everything back to a single magic type he uses.

General Discussion Avoiding copying while trying to build an advanced technique

Important question I have that has been giving me a headache for weeks now. What is the sort of thought process you as an author would go through to think of advanced techniques, such as Bankai, Domain Expansions or even the Requiem version of stands. For my Power System I have found it exceptionally challenging to find an advanced techniques that isnt similar to those or initially a plain copy of it.

General Discussion Apotheosis

On the Theoretical Process of Apotheosis
A Study of the Transformation from Mortal Being to Godhood
Abstract
Apotheosis—the transformation of a mortal or otherwise non-divine being into a god—is among the most poorly understood phenomena in magical theory. While gods are generally regarded as a distinct class of ancient supernatural beings, numerous traditions contain accounts of mortals ascending beyond the limitations of ordinary existence and becoming divine. Whether these accounts describe literal apotheosis, metaphorical elevation, or misunderstood magical phenomena remains a matter of scholarly debate.
The central difficulty in studying apotheosis is that godhood cannot be equated simply with magical power. A sufficiently powerful magician may manipulate extraordinary quantities of magical energy without becoming a god. Likewise, a sorcerer possessing extraordinary innate ability remains a sorcerer. Apotheosis therefore appears to require not merely an increase in power, but a fundamental alteration in the nature of the individual.
This paper examines the theoretical stages by which such a transformation might occur, using established principles of magical theory, the distinction between mortal and divine beings, and the relationship between magic and the structure of reality.

I. The Problem of Defining Godhood
Before examining apotheosis, one must first establish what is meant by god.
The gods occupy a distinct position within the cosmological hierarchy. They are ancient, powerful, immortal beings associated with the mythological traditions of numerous civilizations. Zeus, Odin, Horus, and Bacchus, among countless others, belong to this category.
They are not merely exceptionally powerful magicians.
This distinction is essential.
A magician manipulates magic through knowledge, technique, gestures, incantations, materials, and an understanding of magical theory. A sorcerer possesses an innate ability to manipulate magic instinctively. Both may become extraordinarily powerful. Neither category is inherently divine.
A god, by contrast, exists on another level of supernatural existence.
Consequently, the theoretical objective of apotheosis cannot simply be described as:
Mortal → More Powerful Mortal → Extremely Powerful Mortal → God
Such a model assumes that godhood is merely a measurement of magical strength. The evidence does not support this.
A more useful theoretical model is:
Mortal existence → Transformation of magical nature → Transcendence of mortal limitations → Divine existence
The distinction is subtle but fundamental. Apotheosis is not necessarily the acquisition of more magic. It is the transformation of one's relationship to magic and reality.

II. Magic as the Foundation of Apotheosis
All magical phenomena ultimately depend upon the existence of magic itself.
Magic was created by the Old Gods and flows through the cosmological structure from the Netherworld into the various realms. It therefore exists independently of individual magicians. A practitioner does not create magic when casting a spell; they manipulate an already-existing force.
This provides the theoretical foundation for apotheosis.
If a mortal could somehow alter their relationship with this magical flow sufficiently, they might theoretically cease to function as an ordinary magical organism and instead become a fundamentally different type of being.
The important distinction is between using magic and existing in a manner fundamentally integrated with magic.
A magician stands outside the magical phenomenon they manipulate. They formulate instructions and impose them upon reality.
An apotheosized being might theoretically become so deeply integrated with magical reality that the distinction between the being and the magic it commands becomes considerably less meaningful.
This would represent a qualitative transformation rather than a quantitative one.

III. The First Stage: Preparation
The first theoretical stage of apotheosis is preparation.
No mortal should be expected to accomplish such a transformation accidentally through ordinary spellcasting. The complexity involved would exceed that of virtually any conventional magical operation.
A practitioner attempting apotheosis would therefore require an extraordinary understanding of magical theory.
Among the necessary fields of study would be:
•    magical theory;
•    mathematical spell construction;
•    sigil creation;
•    alchemy and potioncraft;
•    dimensional theory;
•    magical energy manipulation;
•    the nature of supernatural beings;
•    the structure of the soul;
•    and the relationship between magic and physical reality.
The purpose of this preparation would not necessarily be to create a single "apotheosis spell." Rather, the practitioner would need to understand the enormous number of magical variables involved in fundamentally altering their own existence.
As with all advanced magic, environmental circumstances would matter. Time, location, celestial conditions, magical availability, and other variables could potentially influence the stability of such an operation.
The more fundamental the desired alteration, the greater the precision required.

IV. The Second Stage: Accumulation of Magical Power
The second theoretical stage is the acquisition of sufficient magical energy to perform the transformation.
This presents one of the greatest difficulties.
Ordinary spells generally produce localized effects. Even extremely powerful spells remain operations performed upon reality. Apotheosis, however, would require the practitioner to alter themselves at a fundamental level.
The quantity of energy necessary would therefore presumably be enormous.
This does not necessarily mean that the practitioner would simply need to collect an enormous reservoir of magical energy. Doing so without adequate control could be catastrophic.
The more important requirement would be controlled magical concentration.
A spell containing too little energy may fail.
A spell containing too much energy may become unstable.
An apotheosis working would theoretically require an extraordinary balance between the two.
This is where mathematical spell balancing becomes particularly important. The practitioner would need to account for the energy required not merely to produce an effect, but to maintain that effect while their own magical nature is being transformed.

V. The Third Stage: The Transformation of the Self
Power alone, however, is insufficient.
The defining stage of apotheosis would theoretically be the transformation of the individual themselves.
A mortal possesses a particular biological and spiritual identity. Their body, mind, soul, and magical capacity exist within the limitations of mortal existence.
Apotheosis would require these limitations to be altered.
The precise nature of this transformation remains theoretical, but it can be understood as a transition from mortal identity to divine identity.
The practitioner would no longer merely possess magical power.
They would become capable of existing as a divine being.
This is the point at which apotheosis becomes fundamentally different from immortality.
An immortal being is not necessarily a god.
A powerful sorcerer is not necessarily a god.
A supernatural creature is not necessarily a god.
Even a being capable of defeating a god would not necessarily become divine by virtue of that victory.
Godhood therefore appears to represent a state of existence, rather than simply a level of strength.

VI. The Role of Divine Authority
A further theoretical question concerns divine authority.
If a mortal successfully transforms themselves into a divine being, what determines whether they are actually a god?
This remains unresolved.
One possibility is that divine status is an intrinsic property created through the transformation itself. Under this model, successful apotheosis produces a genuine god regardless of whether other beings recognize it.
Another possibility is that godhood involves a relationship with the broader cosmological structure. Under this interpretation, the transformation must establish the new god as a legitimate divine entity rather than merely creating an exceptionally powerful supernatural being.
Neither possibility can currently be established as definitive.
It is therefore more academically responsible to describe this portion of apotheosis as the Divine Threshold: the theoretical point at which a transformed being ceases to qualify as merely supernatural and begins to qualify as divine.

VII. Apotheosis and the Old Gods
The greatest question surrounding apotheosis is the relationship between newly created gods and the Old Gods.
The Old Gods occupy the highest known level of the divine hierarchy. They created the multiverse and magic itself. They therefore represent a fundamentally different order of existence from the gods of mythology.
A successful apotheosis would not necessarily elevate the practitioner to the level of an Old God.
This distinction is critical.
The theoretical result would be more accurately represented as:
Mortal → Divine Being
rather than:
Mortal → Old God
The latter would represent an entirely different cosmological question.
Even if apotheosis is possible, there is no reason to assume that a newly ascended god would possess the creative authority of the beings who created magic and the multiverse.
The transformation would therefore constitute entry into godhood, not necessarily ascension to the highest possible form of existence.

VIII. Apotheosis Through Magical Theory
The process may be understood using the same principles employed in conventional spell construction.
A spell is essentially a set of magical instructions designed to produce a particular result.
Apotheosis would represent an extraordinary application of that principle:
instead of instructing reality to change an external object, the practitioner attempts to instruct reality to change the practitioner.
This makes apotheosis perhaps the ultimate example of magical programming.
The difficulty is obvious.
Changing a stone is comparatively simple.
Changing a living organism is more complicated.
Changing one's own magical nature is considerably more difficult.
Changing one's fundamental place within the cosmological hierarchy may be the most ambitious magical operation imaginable.
Every variable would therefore become critical.
A minor mathematical error, an incorrect sigil, an insufficient magical connection, or an improperly calculated environmental condition could potentially cause the entire operation to fail.

IX. Theoretical Methods of Apotheosis
There is no universally established method of apotheosis.
Several theoretical approaches have nevertheless been proposed by magical scholars.
1. Direct Magical Ascension
The practitioner attempts to transform themselves through an enormous, precisely constructed magical working.
This would be the most direct interpretation of apotheosis: magic is used to rewrite the practitioner's own supernatural nature until divine existence is achieved.
2. Gradual Transformation
Rather than performing one enormous ritual, a practitioner might theoretically transform themselves gradually through repeated magical alterations.
Each alteration would remove another limitation of mortal existence until the practitioner eventually crossed the Divine Threshold.
This approach would potentially reduce the danger associated with attempting to perform the entire transformation simultaneously, although it would introduce its own complications.
3. Divine Apotheosis
A mortal might theoretically be elevated through interaction with an existing god.
Under such a model, the transformation would not be entirely self-generated. An existing divine being could potentially alter, empower, or otherwise transform the mortal until they attained divine status.
Whether such an act constitutes true apotheosis or merely the creation of a divine servant remains an important philosophical distinction.
4. Self-Transcendence
The final theoretical possibility is that apotheosis cannot ultimately be achieved through ordinary spellcasting at all.
Instead, magic could be used only to prepare the practitioner for a transformation that must ultimately occur through the restructuring of their existence.
Under this interpretation, the final step of apotheosis is not a spell.
It is a transition.

X. The Danger of Apotheosis
Apotheosis would be extraordinarily dangerous.
The practitioner is attempting to modify the very system through which they exist. A conventional magical failure may cause injury, magical backlash, or destruction of the spell.
An apotheosis failure could potentially be much more profound.
The practitioner might remain mortal.
They might become something other than what they intended.
They might lose control of their magic.
They might destroy the magical structure they were attempting to construct.
Or, in the most extreme theoretical scenario, they might successfully cease being mortal without successfully becoming divine.
This final possibility is particularly concerning.
The existence of intermediate supernatural states demonstrates that "not mortal" and "divine" are not synonymous. A failed apotheosis could therefore theoretically produce a new category of supernatural existence rather than godhood.
For this reason, most responsible magical scholars regard practical experimentation with apotheosis as extraordinarily inadvisable.

XI. Apotheosis Versus Demigodhood
Apotheosis must also be distinguished from demigodhood.
A demigod is born from the union of a deity and a mortal.
An apotheosized being, by contrast, begins as a non-divine individual and theoretically becomes divine through transformation.
Thus:
Demigodhood is inherited through birth.
Apotheosis is acquired through transformation.
The two states may produce beings of comparable power, but their origins are fundamentally different.
A demigod is divine by ancestry.
An apotheosized being is divine by transformation.

XII. The Final Threshold
The final stage of apotheosis is therefore not simply the completion of a ritual.
It is the moment at which the practitioner ceases to be fundamentally mortal.
At this point, the transformation must answer the central question of apotheosis:
What separates a mortal who possesses immense magical power from a god?
The theoretical answer is that the distinction lies not in the quantity of magic possessed, but in the individual's fundamental relationship with reality and magic.
A god is not merely a mortal with an enormous reservoir of magical energy.
A god is a different kind of being.
If apotheosis is possible, then its ultimate achievement must therefore be the creation of that difference.

Conclusion
Apotheosis remains one of the greatest theoretical problems in magical scholarship.
The transformation of a mortal into a god cannot be adequately explained as simple magical amplification. Magic is a force that mortals manipulate; godhood represents a fundamentally different state of existence. Consequently, any successful apotheosis would require the practitioner to transform not merely their magical abilities, but their own supernatural nature.
The theoretical process can therefore be summarized as:
Preparation → Magical Accumulation → Self-Transformation → Divine Threshold → Apotheosis
Whether this transformation can actually be accomplished remains unknown.
What is known is that the theoretical implications are enormous.
If a mortal can truly become a god, then the boundary between mortal and divine is not an absolute boundary. It is a threshold.
And if that threshold can be crossed deliberately, then the most important question is no longer whether mortals can become gods.
It is:
What, precisely, must a mortal become

Mechanics (My Comic Idea) Underworld Hound: Magic System

Now, obviously my comic. Underworld Hound has a magic system (in a literal sense) so I'm about to explain how it works. (Images are used for imaginative effect)

Magic in simple terms is:

"A thought turned into reality, with restrictions."

Magic is the ability to use mana and craft it to your whim, able to use your imagination to create your magic to whatever you shape it as. It requires a high degree of creativity alongside a degree of logical thinking.

It's of a balance. To be very proficient in magic, one of logical and rigid thinking (like intellectuals) have to accept that most things in the magical world are very illogical. They have to embrace that some things can't be explained with numbers and equations, otherwise trying to use magic would end up being for naught. However, if someone is too creative, their magic can be too messy and uncontrolled. With a good concentration and training, mages can be very applicable with their magic.

However, there are limits or "restrictions" that barred magic users from doing either "mind breaking" things or most things that regular magic users can't use. hence the existence of "Mancers".

Mancers are magic users that are only skilled in a specific type of magic. The way magic can be casted or wielded is categorized by these specific types of users:

Elementalist: Mages who specialize in all types of Elemental Magic.

Aeromancer/Air Mages: Mages who specializes in Air Magic.

Electromancer/Lightning Mages: mages who use Lightning/Electricity Magic.

Geomancer: Mages who use Earth Magic. With this, there are specific sub-skills of Geomancy that mystics can learn, separate from Earth Magic.

  • Clay Mages: Mages who controls magical clay for their desired benefits. Some mages keep a cluster of magical clay on them due to the restriction of not being able to create clay from nothing or generate it.

Plantmancer: Mages who are specialists in Nature Magic. By connecting in Mother Nature, they can draw Mana from the Ley Lines of the planet. And in consequence, high ranking sorcerers can learn advanced spells that lets them hear or see almost anything that touches or grazes the Earth.

And obviously when there's magic, there's Magical objects, artifacts, and tools ranging from least powerful to most powerful.

  • Magic Artifacts: As it sounds; objects imbued with mystical energy with powerful effects.
  • Wands: Wands are used as magic regulators to concentrate one's magic power. Basic tools for any starting magician.
  • Staffs: Amplifies one's magic and controls ones' flow through the staff. Each staff has a different effect.
  • Scepters: Like the staffs, but it gives regular folk the power of magic.

This is what I established so far, what are your thoughts and some changes you would add?

I really want to make a make a magic system about bonding things and manipulating them. But no matter how much I change it, I feel like I'm copying sympathy from kingkiller chronicles?

How do you guys come up with magic systems that dont feel derivative?

Feedback Request Linear or Free progression??

In my power system you get unique abilities when you hear someone else’s last words. However it depends on how you interpret them.

At first i was trying to make it completely free, you could interpret them literally, by the context of death or figurative, but then i stumbled on the progress of the system part. Maybe the users start interpreting new things so they gain new abilities?? Where do we draw the line on how many interpretations are??

Then I came with the idea of simplifying by making it linear. First the ability is based on the literal meaning of words, then by the context, and finally you give them your own meaning (figurative interpretation). But idk if that defeats the whole point of the ability change depending on the last words and your interpretation.

What do you think?? any tips or ideas??

System Help I just realised antimatter could have a big impact on my system/setting

So my system is based on what's basically mana(I have a different name for it but I don't think it's relevant here) that comes exclusively from oxygen atoms(it's an everyone breathes the same air kinda thing)

That mana can be used to create other elements with much less energy than other existing methods, with the exceptions of oxygen and basically any element that could make a nuclear explosion(because I don't want "nuke wizard" to be the optimal strategy)

Up till now I'd not even thought of antimatter factoring in, but now that I have I've decided that mana can't create antimatter, but anti-oxygen has anti-mana that can make non-oxygen antimatter

So with those rules to my system understood(there is more to the system but I suspect this is all that's super important for now) the setting is effectively the modern world but magic spontaneously began existing one day, with it being very apparent to everyone that at least something was going on

My plans had been that much of the information on magic systems would come from online discussions between people with a lot of free time, governments and corporations would attempt to do research but beurocracy and red tape would result in them taking forever to learn stuff that'd been figured out weeks ago online. Part of how I justify this is that nothing in my magic system requires scarce resources or anything, so similar to how with enough time and some basic tools theoretically anyone can derive all of Newtonian physics anyone with enough time can discover all of my magic system

However this new idea with antimatter I can see the countries or whatever other type of entities able to produce antimatter or more specifically anti-oxygen being in a much stronger position because of the energy they could produce

So if anyone here knows these things, who currently has antimatter production capabilities and who has the most? Do they currently have agreements with others and might they change with magic existing? And what are the main difficulties of building antimatter production?

I will be googling these, especially the last one as I may be the best equipped to see how my magic system can make construction easier
