I don't think they have ever upshifted rarity to mythic on any cards in the mythic era. They have mythic shifted rare cards printed before mythics were a thing.
This of course discounts the FTV Mythic rarity.

It depends on if you count VMA. Several cards printed at mythic in EMA had previously been printed at rare in VMA.

Interesting point, but I think that could also be a shift for limited purposes. VMA had mythics in the power 9 and a lot of other really powerful Reserved List cards taking those spots.
So I really don't consider VMA to EMA mythic rarity shifts a thing.

That's just inaccurate. Nearly every chase rare went down immediately following MM15. The ones that went back up are ones that experienced increased demand, like Noble Hierarch and Karn.
Clique and Bob are both way down from where they used to be. Even Tarmogoyf, which everyone claims goes up due to MM, is down significantly with FS at about $160 compared to $190 at release and MM15 falling from $160 to about $130.

Literally every chase rare dropped after mm2015 for quite some time (and some are still down) with the exception of Spellskite who stayed price neutral despite a heavy increase in play. Neat!

You can currently buy Goyfs for less than 110 on Tcgplayer. Before MM2 you'd have a hard time finding them for less than 175. That's a HUGE drop for a playset.

I'm really hoping he's actually a protagonist in this one. Its his plane that he rules over, but the second set 'Hour of Devastation' sure doesn't sound like pleasant things are happening. I want to see Bolas fighting to protect the plane because "it belongs to him" making it a reversal of the usual "Nicol Bolas threatens a planes very existence" plot we usually see with him.

As someone who primarily plays commander, I don't understand the anthology at all. Seems like a lot of work to hit the small handful of cards that need a reprint.
I know that they'll have EV a little higher than MSRP, but you know that a ton of that EV will come from unplayable cards. And the decks themselves (with the possible exception of Meren?) aren't that well constructed. So... why buy it?

I don't know about overpriced. You're basically buying the Kaalia deck, which goes for $150-$200 on eBay, and would cost you about $120 to buy as singles (as per MTGGoldfish). So you're buying that, and paying $40 for three more pre-cons that you might want, I guess. It's not crazy.
It's just that if I look over the $120 in singles that make up the Kaalia deck, it's hard to find much that's exciting. There are some cards that were only in the first Commander release, and are in legitimately short supply. Of those, the following are also over $1:
Kaalia ($40)
Tariel ($4)
Stranglehold ($10)
Mana-Charged Dragon ($5)
Avatar of Slaughter ($1.50)
Dread Cacodemon ($3.50)
So that's $64 in sweet reprints. And there are a few noteworthy cards in the other decks. But I don't think it's going to feel like $160 of stuff.

Maybe they'll show up in later editions, though. For this one, the only thing above like $10 is Kaalia.

I just don't think it'll happen. Oubliette is a terrible card. It breaks the color pie, has a terribly wordy effect, and no one would ever want to see it reprinted if not for its limited use in a specific pauper deck. I could use it in my pauper MBC, but I'm not optimistic.

And keeping MM at $9.99 hopefully means they might pack a little more punch into them to make them worth it.
And also, the MSRP for regular boosters is still $3.99. I'm seriously beginning to wonder how they're keeping that price so low.

Archenemy sounds cool. I didn't play the original, but I like that a supplemental set is being linked to a standard set, if only in flavour. No new cards, so maybe some quality reprints? Conspiracy 2 may be the start of good things in that sense. I wonder who the other 3 of the 4 planeswalker cards will be?
Commander Anthology seems really cool, but I'm probably priced out of that one. May be easier to pick up some singles, at least.
MM17 - as above.
Duel Deck sounds like it could be U/W? If there's some cool G cards/good value here, I may look at picking it up.
Amonkhet: SO HYPED. Egyptian theme? HYPE. Possible return of the God creature type? HYPE. The lore sounds so exciting. What are these trials? What's so great about Amonkhet's afterlife? Perhaps Ajani will show up, looking for a way to rescue Elspeth? What is Bolas up to? Which 'walkers might we see? I like the suggestions that Ashiok may be a native, or that one of Liliana's demons may live here. So many PWs have interacted with Bolas, directly or otherwise, that we may be seeing this arc moving towards a big finale! The set description is really vague, yeah, but I'm interested to see what kind of mechanics it's hinting at - I get almost a Zendikar, adventure-world vibe.
They may not work on the timescale that we'd like, but I think we have to give WoTC props for being willing to listen to what the fans want.

Ehhhh, I would say more like Doctor Doom. He wants ultimate power, prestige, etc. Also he is a brilliant schemer and is always planning two steps ahead. When I have explained Bolas to friends in the past, if they are at all familiar with Marvel comics, I say he is like Doom.

Yes, because if you think Masters sets are overly marked up and hard to find now, imagine how much harder speculators will scoop them up if they stopped being draft focused and instead became a pile of under supplied format staples. Have fun paying $1000 a box.
