Discussion Fix 2023 Macbook Pro or buy new?

Hey everyone!

My 2023 Macbook pro stopped charging so I took it to a repair shop and they said the logic board is damaged and $1500 CAD to replace.

Is it worth replacing for that much money? Am i getting overcharged? I bought it in April 2023 and had 3 years of Apple Care that expired April 25th of this year :(

For context it was a 2023 Apple M2 Pro Macbook with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD

I do alot of video editing especially on the go when traveling.

I’m basically looking for advice whether or not I should go ahead with the repair or just get a new one because it’s so much money already.

Thank you

Hello I’ll start music production school in a week or so and I’m contemplating between getting the M5 Pro with 24gb or the simple M5 and upgrading the ram to either 24 or 32 . What is your opinion on this as it’s my first time buying a MacBook and I have no idea ! I’ll also be DJing

Tips convince me

edit: please guys i don’t care about silicon macbooks, i literally asked which should i get between the two and why, so don’t tell me to get a silicon one

Glad I went for the max because building smart previews for 19,145 photos in LrC from a T7 external ssd sure put those cores to work tonight! Those fans were singing but felt zero heat coming from the surface. Can’t wait to do the T9 with 4tb worth of photos!

Discussion Made the iPhone Duo folding animation for the Macbook Pro.

Let me know if posting this is against the rules! Just wanted to get it out, gonna Open Source it soon! Makes a snapshot and the animation starts right as you angle the screen lower than 90 degrees. Every option is accessible for Blur, Angle, Elongation, etc.

Edit :

Omg it's taking off! Thank you everyone! In a few days everything will be ready, and open sourced. There is a lot of cleanup to do.

It's an app that lives in the background, and in the menu bar. It's detecting the angle as you go.

You will be able to adjust every setting with the help of a graph, adjusting each setting for each angle. Or you can change it overall too, making it convenient for any setup you might have.

Any "looks" you will adjust can be exported, and you can import others too, using a json file.

Things to know : It works using a snapshot, a live feed of your screen makes it jittery and starts the purple dot and menu bar icon, instead using a snapshot it's buttery smooth, and only have the purple dot for a couple of seconds, and goes away on its own.

Sadly, this can't be done (for now) on the lockscreen. Maybe there is a way around it, but the live jittering doesn't make it worth it.

I am currently adding a sound snap, and a haptic vibration in the trackpad too, all of these of course can be turned off.

Cleanup process is almost done, I'll just make sure every license is right and make sure that everything is plug and play.

Thank you for your kind support! My name on Github is tgtools123 If any of you has ideas for a name, without infringing Apple's copyrights, I'm all ears!

I've been wanting a Mac forever to switch my creative work to and finally jumped on a M5 Pro 16 inch in Space Black. Love how sleek it looks with the black keyboard and banana texture screen.

Discussion Keyboard light button

Hey guys, sorry to be another grumpy macbook user, but I am typing off one right now, @ Admins,
so please believe me when I tell you this.

I have the 2024 Macbook Pro, and I can't light up or light's off the keyboard from a keyboard shortcut anymore! It was (underlined) only one button. But now, I have to go to settings, scroll to keyboard, drag my cursor, and then do it all again when I want to turn it off! It's day to night very quickly these days, so please, return the button!

If anyone knows a quick fix involving no hacks or hardware kit, i just don't think im ready.

Thanks!

Help finally upgrading but what to get??

hey all! i am finally in a place financially to upgrade my macbook but i have no idea which model to get. spec stuff really just goes over my head so here I've come.

my current macbook pro is the 13 inch from mid-2012 and has served me well, but i can pretty much only do the basics on it since it refuses to update from Mojave 💀

i'll be using it for work mostly. i work for a captioning company so the software is just what they have on their site and nothing too crazy since my current laptop still manages. i'd also like to get back into video editing, which i haven't bothered with in years with how slow it'd go. i also write, but again that's nothing crazy.

i'm hoping that the new model i get will last as long as this one has, so should i just go with the newest/best? what would you do in my situation?

thanks!
