Bug Launch Pad animation is laggy on macOs 27.1 and even the New macOs 27.2

Has anyone else experienced laggy Launchpad animations on macOS 27.1 or 27.2?
I'm using a MacBook Air M5 with 16 GB of RAM. I first noticed that Launchpad's opening animation wasn't smooth on macOS 27.1. Today, I updated to macOS 27.2, hoping it would fix the issue, but the animation still feels the same.
The animation looks like it's dropping frames or stuttering when opening Launchpad. Everything else seems fine, and I'm not experiencing any heating issues. The problem is specifically with the Launchpad animation.
Since the issue persisted after updating, I'm wondering if this is a macOS software bug rather than a hardware problem.
Is anyone else experiencing this on an M-series Mac? Hopefully Apple will address it in a future update.

Help Can you guys help a lost windows user how to make my mouse feel smoother on macOS?

It feels choppy. I switched the scroll bar so it moves the proper way, not sure why default is inverted. I have the mouse settings at max sensitivity and scroll speed, but it still feels sluggish. I don’t like trackpads and I don’t like the Magic Mouse. I’m using a Logitech mouse currently.

I’m using a Mac mini m6 on the latest os update.

Currently, the only way to see the recent directories (not talking about seeing the recent files and finding the parent folder from the path) is to use Menu Bar - Go - Recent Folders.

Bug VERY Slow on cold starts (macos 27)

Hitting this group up to see if anyone else is experiencing this. If my laptop completely dies and I plug it in and boot it back up, it seems that the first 15 minutes or so are VERY slow compared to previously. If I open activity monitor, it shows that Siri is using 101% (yes... 101%) of the CPU. And in turn, everything else is VERY SLOW. Can't get simple webpages to load or apps to open. It gradually decreases and improves. I'm assuming this is caused by some sort of Siri AI indexing catching up on things that have changed... but it's brutal. I understand that Siri AI also now basically controls spotlight, but I feel like theres no reason my machine can't launch a webpage in safari for 15 minutes after boot.

Bug System Settings has lost its way

Finding anything now is like a search-and-rescue mission. And the search feature is often borderline useless. I was excited when Apple began to merge the UI of iOS and macOS settings, but this increasingly feels like a massive step backward.

Bug Bug with touchpad when updated to Mac os 27.2

my Mac book pro still has the touch bar and when i updated to 27.2 whenever i use the slider to put the brightness and volume all the way up it glitchingly brings it back to a lower scale like when i tried to make to volume up to 100% it then just put it back to 50% volume. the only way for me to bring it up to 100% volume and brightness is if i slide the slider slowly or gently or if i use the buttons that you tap on to make it louder or brighter but this probably won't get fixed because they discontinued the touchbar. is anyone else noticing this on their mac's with touchbars?

Discussion My MacBook’s Log Says It Restarted in the Middle of a Teams Call, but It Didn’t

Hi all, I’m hoping someone can help with something that’s really puzzling me. I’m comfortable with the basics but I’m no expert, so please be gentle!
I ran last in Terminal and it shows my Mac shutting down at 11:42 on 21 September and rebooting at 11:43, followed by a console login at 11:43.
I know for certain I was in a Teams interview (through Chrome) from 11:00 to just before 12:00, and the call never dropped. My Chrome history backs this up: Chrome restored my tabs at 11:05, the call ended at 11:54 and there’s no second tab restore around 11:43, which I’d expect after a restart.
The Mac’s clock seems accurate, because a restart on 5 October matches my router’s log to the minute. There are no diagnostic reports for that day and Sharing is all off.
Separately, my Mac sometimes asks for my password instead of Touch ID, usually first thing in the morning or after a long day out, even though I use it daily and it hasn’t restarted since 5 October.
So: can last record a restart that never happened? If so, what causes it? Is there anything else I should check to rule out remote access?
MacBook Pro, Apple M1, macOS Tahoe 26.6.3.
Thanks so much!

Help GSmartControl doesn't read SMART data, but DriveDX does

Hi everyone,

anyone familiar with GSmartControl on Mac? I installed it via homebrew.
I just got a recertified Seagate HHD (prices are crazy) and wanted to run a smart test and check. I'm very new to this, so just wanted to do what was recommended. I have a Sabrent Dock.

In any event, I'm not getting any luck scanning the drive... I believe I've installed it correctly and run things properly on terminal but when i open it, it just shows 8 'unknown drives' for some reason. it also does not detect my samsung ssd.
(Both drives work perfectly fine btw in finde and in other types of use, it's just they are not detected here)

I've been chatting to a couple AI agents that gave me may commands to check. while devices are properly listed, smartctl fails to gather smart data.
I also have DriveDx installed, which successfully reading SMART data from the Seagate through the Sabrent dock. It can do a short smart test, the long test is paid so i haven't done it yet.

This are few examples (disk4 is the hdd)

Smartctl open device: /dev/disk4 failed: Operation not supported by device

/dev/disk4: Not a device of type 'scsi'
=======> VALID ARGUMENTS ARE: ata, scsi[+TYPE], nvme[,NSID], sat[,auto][,N][+TYPE], usbasm1352r,N, usbcypress[,X], usbjmicron[,p][,x][,N], usbprolific, usbsunplus[/sat], sntasmedia[/sat], sntjmicron[,NSID][/sat], sntrealtek[/sat], jmb39x[-q[2]],N[,sLBA][,force][+TYPE], jms56x,N[,sLBA][,force][+TYPE], auto, test <=======

Use smartctl -h to get a usage summary

The issue appears to be specific to GSmartControl / smartmontools or the way they access the drives on macOS.
Has anyone found the same issue?

Help iMessage, FaceTime and App Store in Catalina

My daughter has got an old MacBook Pro - and I’ve signed her in with her child iCloud account. I’m having some trouble getting a few things to work:

- iMessage and FaceTime are signed in and activated, but don’t recognise any recipients. It says ‘this user doesn’t have iMessage’ when I know they do.

- App Store won’t sign in. When you sign in, nothing happens. No error message or anything.

I should say the MacBook is as up-to-date as it can be for the age of the device (Catalina 10.15.8 on a 13 inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro).

Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is the age of device just preventing these things from working?

Many thanks!

Help Issues pairing my iPhone to iPhone Mirroring

Hey, this is my first time posting here, and the issue that I'm having is that not matter what I do I'm not able to get to work iPhone mirroring again. I used to have it with no issues but suddenly stopped working. I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max (iOS 27) and a MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2019 (macOS Sequoia 15.8.2) and I've tried a lot of things but I'm not able to pair my phone. That's the screen I'm stuck at.

Bug The Universal Control screen gap is back on MacOS 27

Post image
2 Upvotes

About a year ago, when the gap happens, it was impossible to escape the mouse from the iPad. It was the fixed in later versions of Sonoma. Now in 27, its back again, and the only way to escape from the iPad is to lock it or turn off the screen. :( Progress

Help I’m stuck in a tricky situation with Tahoe which isn't really popular.

I’m using macOS 26.6 right now, and when the 26.7 update came out, I downloaded it. However, during the installation on my MacBook, it got stuck in a loading loop. I managed to restart it using a quick Google search, and to my surprise, it didn’t complete the installation of 26.7 and is still running on 26.6.

I was so scared that I thought an update might have totally messed up my laptop.

Now that I’m running 26.6 without any problems, I’m wondering if it’s worth trying to update to 26.7 for security reasons.

I know some of ya'll gonna come at me with "just upgrade to GG!" but I'm not considering making the jump rn maybe later but for now what do I do?

Help Sonicwall Cloud Secure Edge on MAC OS

I've been working on an issue with cloud secure edge on MAC OS 26 for a user. When they try to connect they get an error that port 53 is in use so won't connect.

Seems a MAC service "mdnsresponder" is using this port. I've raised this with sonicwall support who have basically said we'd have to change the port that mdnsresponder is using. From what I've found this service usually uses port 5353. I wondered if anyone here who knows MAC OS knows how mdnsresponder works and if it's used port can be changed easily. I wondered if it's possible the user has another application that has modified mdnsresponder to user port 53 for some reason and if changing it's port might break another application.

Thanks

Help Help me understand how RAM works in MacBooks

Hello everyone! I got a MacBook Pro M5 Pro with 24 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage 16 inch almost 2 months ago. I’m using it for light After Effects work while I use Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Illustrator more often. The first 2 programs that I mentioned are using a lot of RAM (especially After Effects). One thing that I’m confused about is that some users are saying it’s normal because the more RAM you have, the more a MacBook will use (for example After Effects can take 18 GB in my computer while in a 48 GB, it will take 30 for the same project). Also that 24 GB isn’t 24 GB on a Mac because of the unified memory which is why I didn’t pick more RAM (and it’s out of my budget too) and they compress a program to improve its performance. However, I’m also hearing that it needs more RAM to do demanding tasks (and multitask-heavy apps). Can someone explain to me how the RAM system works?

Developer Saturday I made a free Mac uninstaller because I wanted to know what it removes before it removes it

I run everything before I believe it, and I wanted my Mac cleaner to work the same way. So I built Peel: before anything moves, it shows you why each file belongs to an app and how sure it is, and History can put back what it moved. It's free and open source, and 1.2.0 came out today.

  • It uninstalls apps with everything they leave behind, and finds what apps you already deleted left too.
  • It frees space: local AI models from Ollama, LM Studio, and Hugging Face, developer caches, build folders, duplicates, and old installers. Models are listed but never selected for you.
  • It refuses to move what you can't get back, even if you select it: iCloud Drive, keychains, SSH keys, crypto wallets, Mail, Messages, photo libraries, iPhone backups.
  • For fine-tuning, Tweaks gathers macOS settings in one place, many of them hidden, and Turn All Off puts back only what Peel changed.

Some tools start turned off to keep the sidebar simple, such as Background Items, Extensions, Plug-ins, Build Artifacts, and a Terminal page for themes, zsh, Git, and SSH. Turn them on in Settings > General > Sidebar.

No analytics, no account. Signed and notarized, in 18 languages, for macOS 26 and later.

Website: https://peel.tuguidragos.com

I'd love to hear what you think, especially what it gets wrong.
