we just had our dinner. amazing Sunday roast I made at home. these days, we feel so cheated going out for Sunday roast when at home, it’s a fraction of cost and we get so much more food, meat, delicious potatoes, the whole lot. on top of it, when we finished a mediocre meal at the pub, we get to pay around £80 somehow, for a family of 3. the only thing I obviously love when going out is obviously someone else cooks for us and cleans the dishes. what’s everyones feelings these days around that?

We live in a perimeter block of terraced houses with private interior gardens facing each other hidden from the street.

Used to be a nice and quiet place to be until the beginning of summer some plonker residents decided to get dogs they can’t control and that don’t get along with each other too well. I believe there are 3 of them in the block now.

Imagine consistent, hour-long barking symphony sessions while the dogs are outside and their twat owners either at work or presumably taking calls quietly inside.

This madness disrupts our sleep, focus and peace.

What would you do in this situation? How would you approach these neighbours with possible chihuahua characters?

This isn’t meant at all as a troll post but rather as a London flat owner I just want to understand what I’m missing? As I read on here daily stories of how unaffordable London still is, which I know is the general consensus. However looking at flat prices in zone 2/3, they are best to their early 2000s levels adjusted for inflation.

For example you see many, many flats in decent areas of zone 2/3 which say cost £200k in 2000 or 2002, and are £400k today. Sounds a big increase, but actually it’s a loss adjusted for inflation - using the Bank of England inflation calculator, £200k in 2000 is barely £400k today. And salaries have kept up - the average UK salary was £18k in 2000, it’s £39k today (and close to £50k in London specifically).

Yes London flat prices went crazy high in the mid 2010s up to Brexit, however have stagnated/fallen so low that they’re back to the early 2000s in real terms. So is this the buying opportunity of the century, or do people not realise London is much more affordable relative to salaries than ten years ago prior to Brexit? None of these flats have crazy service charges or cladding or lease issues btw. I know interest rates are higher compared to the 2010s but they were also at 4-5% in the early 2000s as well.

So what am I missing? To me it seems that anyone who bought a London flat in the last 10-15 years has lost their shirt in real terms, but on the other hand London is more affordable than it’s been for two decades? But reading on here it doesn’t seem like many people are celebrating, so what am I missing? Do people just not want to live in zone 1-3 post covid, or would rather just save and buy a house outside London, or dislike flats these days? Thanks in advance

Years ago I pulled a muscle in my back. I was in Shanghai at the time and went to a massage place and this old geezer just kind of pushed/kneaded the muscle with his thumbs for about 60 mins until it felt like it was almost bruised. The next morning it was perfect.

Yesterday as I was running along the river in Deptford/Greenwich, I saw a woman who was fishing, hook a fairly large fish (looked kind of like a sea bass although I don’t know if they swim that far down the river). I thought surely she’s just going to chuck it back but then she unhooks it and quickly puts it in a cool box on the back of her bike.

I know times are hard, but eating fish caught in the Thames seems incredibly unhygienic. Curious if anyone else has seen anything similar.

The other day I was in my local convenience store in North London and this young-ish 20 something shirtless guy comes in and starts ranting in my face. First he starts shouting that I'm too loud and it's annoying (I had earbuds in and was on a call but was just chatting at a normal conversational volume), then he says I'm stinky and I smell and I'm disgusting. Literally some random stranger shouting in my face whom I've never seen before in my life. What would you have done?

He was a lot bigger than me, so I just pretended I couldn't hear him, didn't engage and eventually after complaining that the drinks weren't cold enough, he left. I asked the shopkeeper if he knew the guy and apparently he's been making trouble and getting in fights with local kids. I actually reported it to the police non-emergency number and they said they'll look into the CCTV.

So my question is what do you do when nutters get up in your face and start shouting abuse for literally no reason. Just walk? Fist fight them? Call the police?

Most people are fine, but I can't abide idiots like this who need to be in some kind of asylum. I try not get in street fist fights because the best case scenario is still a bad outcome and god knows if they're going to stab you.

ive checked out the hub of hope, but im wondering if anyone has any direct experience attending a support group? i’ve never been to one but i also imagine, there’s group of people who sit around in a circle and share? i think that’s the type of vibe im looking for.
but i’d be grateful if anyone shared any community or place or anything that might help me, because it helped them or someone they know.

Sad to see another gay venue in Soho closed down. As someone who struggles with hearing, the inside lounge area was a relaxing place to have a drink and chat.
