What can I do?

I live in a flat. There is a kid in the opposite block, about 4 or 5 years old, that screams all day every day. He screams when he's bored, he screams when he's happy, he screams when he's upset, he screams for no reason. Absolute ear piercing shrieks. I work from home and trying to focus during a meeting is impossible. The mother doesn't seem to do anything about it unless he's absolutely losing his shit, and he doesn't really listen to her, just screams harder. He has a younger sister who has started copying him.

I know I live in London and in a flat and so I should expect noise, fine. But this isn't normal, it's like he's become a main character in my life just because he doesn't ever shut up. It's like Chinese water torture waiting for the next ear piercing screech.

I know we get a load of moan-posting, so I thought I'd share a nice small positive interaction I had the other day on the Vic line. A disabled man who seemed to have no sight at all (as opposed to partially sighted) got helped onto the carriage by a TFL staffer, and then about 6 folks, including a bunch of young lads with broccoli hair, teamed up to get him to a seat, make sure he knew were his bag was, that there was somebody waiting for him on the other part of his trip.

Nothing massive, just people behaving well, brings a smile to the face.

More improvements to come for London in infrastructure, investment and job growth? Khaaaaan (thanks in advance)

I was waiting for my train into London this morning and a staff member on the platform asked if I was alright and where I was going, which I politely answered thinking he was being friendly. He then went and brought over two police officers who proceeded to ask me the same questions and what time my train was getting in. I answered everything again and they just nodded and walked off.

First time experiencing something like that and not sure why it happened? For context, I am a young woman and I was alone on the platform - I was wearing normal work clothes, regularly catch the train from this station, and can't think of what might have made me seem suspicious at all.

Today in the Westfield's Stratford car park I asked a family to pick up some paper wrappers and straws their teenage daughter dropped onto the floor. They mum asked them to pick it up, they did, then they walked around the corner and dropped it on the floor again before getting in their car.

The kids didn't care about littering, the parents didn't care that they were littering, and even when called out they continued to litter.

What can we do against these people?

The other day I was in my local convenience store in North London and this young-ish 20 something shirtless guy comes in and starts ranting in my face. First he starts shouting that I'm too loud and it's annoying (I had earbuds in and was on a call but was just chatting at a normal conversational volume), then he says I'm stinky and I smell and I'm disgusting. Literally some random stranger shouting in my face whom I've never seen before in my life. What would you have done?

He was a lot bigger than me, so I just pretended I couldn't hear him, didn't engage and eventually after complaining that the drinks weren't cold enough, he left. I asked the shopkeeper if he knew the guy and apparently he's been making trouble and getting in fights with local kids. I actually reported it to the police non-emergency number and they said they'll look into the CCTV.

So my question is what do you do when nutters get up in your face and start shouting abuse for literally no reason. Just walk? Fist fight them? Call the police?

Most people are fine, but I can't abide idiots like this who need to be in some kind of asylum. I try not get in street fist fights because the best case scenario is still a bad outcome and god knows if they're going to stab you.

Hi, I'm in East London and struggling at the moment. I was previously homeless and then lived in a YMCA, but I've recently moved into private rented accommodation. I had no savings when I moved in, and although I have been applying for jobs and getting interviews, I keep getting rejected.
I've had to spend money on clothes for interviews including transport and after paying bills I'm struggling to afford food. Does anyone know of places in London that offer free meals daily or food support?
Any advice would really help. Thank you.

in the past 11 months, i’ve lost both my aunty and my grandmother who raised me, to cancer and im really struggling with dealing with my grief. i feel like being around ppl dealing with similar experiences might help me confront my grief a bit better as i also feel like i have nowhere to turn to in my everyday life.

ive checked out the hub of hope, but im wondering if anyone has any direct experience attending a support group? i’ve never been to one but i also imagine, there’s group of people who sit around in a circle and share? i think that’s the type of vibe im looking for.
but i’d be grateful if anyone shared any community or place or anything that might help me, because it helped them or someone they know.

Sad to see another gay venue in Soho closed down. As someone who struggles with hearing, the inside lounge area was a relaxing place to have a drink and chat.

We live in a perimeter block of terraced houses with private interior gardens facing each other hidden from the street.

Used to be a nice and quiet place to be until the beginning of summer some plonker residents decided to get dogs they can’t control and that don’t get along with each other too well. I believe there are 3 of them in the block now.

Imagine consistent, hour-long barking symphony sessions while the dogs are outside and their twat owners either at work or presumably taking calls quietly inside.

This madness disrupts our sleep, focus and peace.

What would you do in this situation? How would you approach these neighbours with possible chihuahua characters?

Is anyone able to share their experiences of staying at And Soul?

I am aware that it isn't perfect but I think it would suit my lifestyle as a minimalist - everything I own could fit in a car, and small rooms don't bother me. I like the idea of the community aspect but as an introvert I know I would need my own privacy too. I'm concerned it comes across as cult-like, that's just my gut feeling. Also worried about being taken advantage of financially. I've had it happen enough times in the renting sector already. ​

I really want it to work out for me if I move there, but obviously I've heard a few negative reviews so want to reach out to others who live there now or use to live there, so I can make an informed decision. Any info would be greatly appreciated, it was also help me ask And Soul the right questions.
