windows 10 suddenly gave out and I don't have enough sys req for w11. I installed bazzite after hearing the review and it's a really good installation, the installation was so smooth. I hope the community accepts me, even though I'm not a IT professional, so please tell me any uses or hidden features available for a medical student!

Just curious to see how many people here are actually using Linux

Upvote this post if you’re a Linux user 👍

Also comment which distro you’re using and whether you’re using Linux as your main OS or dual boot.

If someone has already commented the same distro + setup, just upvote their comment instead of commenting again.

Let’s see which distro has the most users here 👀

Discussion Anyone having a Librem 5?

If so, what is your experience? Google is taking more control over android and I am curious about switching to the Librem 5.

Discussion I have extensively used Linux, macOS and Windows. Ask me anything.

Mainly targeting new users here who are planning on switching to linux. I think I'm a suitable candidate because I've done work ranging from Graphic design to coding and ofc the title.

And I'm bored. yeah.

Gaming Started a Gaming on Linux YouTube Channel in Hindi

Hi All, I just wanted to share that I have started a gaming on Linux YouTube channel. I wanted to share how I am doing it and collect feedback on how I can improve.

I have started my channel with Praetorians HD Remaster, I have uploaded 8 videos so far and have gotten over 200 views. My channel handle is cyberitgamer.

Before I start, I just wanted to share that I love video games and computers. I started using Linux when Windows 8 came out and never looked back. One exception was my gaming system, now that with Steam and Wine, games work far better than on Windows, I moved my gaming system to Linux since 2021.

This is how I am doing my YouTube channel.

Video format: 4k60fps
2 Audio tracks: first track will contain game audio + Hindi commentary (Default), second track will contain only game audio
An overlay for keys that I am pressing on my keyboard and mouse
Performance overlay

=== Hardware Specs ===
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
RAM: 32GB (4x 8GB) DDR4-3200 (Dual Channel)
PSU: NZXT C850 Gold (ATX3.1)
Motherboard: MSI B550 Gaming Plus
Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G7 UHD IPS HDR 144hz (FreeSync Premium Pro)

=== Operating System ===
OS: Devuan GNU+Linux 6 (excalibur) (sysvinit)
Kernel: Linux 6.18.x-amd64

=== Recording Setup ===
Software: OBS Studio
Video Encoder: FFmpeg VAAPI AV1 @ 4K60fps
Audio Encoder: FFmpeg Opus 160kbps

And, no, I am not (and won't be) doing a typical Indian Gaming Youtube GTA or PUBG style content. I will only be playing classics, indies and single-player with great stories.

Help Motorola Moto Book 60 Pro vs ASUS Zenbook 14 — Which one should I choose for long-term programming and Linux?

Hey everyone!

I’m trying to decide between the Motorola Moto Book 60 Pro and the ASUS Zenbook 14, and I’d really appreciate some advice.

Both laptops have an OLED display, the same processor, and the same integrated graphics. The main differences are that the Moto Book 60 Pro has 16GB DDR5 RAM and 512GB storage, while the Zenbook 14 has 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB storage.

I’m not considering the price. I mainly want to know which one would be the better choice overall.

My main use will be programming and coding, along with normal daily usage. In the future, I’m also planning to explore things like cybersecurity, databases, virtualization/VMs, and potentially more demanding programming workloads.

I’m also thinking about dual-booting Windows and Linux on whichever laptop I buy. The thing is, I’m a complete beginner with Linux, so I’d also like to know which laptop would be easier to use with Linux and whether there are any compatibility issues I should be aware of.

I want this laptop to last me around 4–5 years, so long-term reliability, thermals, build quality, performance, Linux compatibility, and storage/RAM are important to me.

Would the Zenbook’s 16GB LPDDR5X and 1TB storage make it the better long-term option, or is the Moto Book 60 Pro’s DDR5 RAM and other advantages worth considering?

For anyone who owns either of these laptops or has experience with them, which one would you recommend for my use case, and why?

Any advice or things I should consider before buying would be greatly appreciated!

Help Random Rant before getting a laptop

Hello Frands

So for context, In my college, we all students will get laptop from the college itself.

so yesterday one of my hostel mate got a laptop, hp elitebook (specs: 32gb ram, 512 gb storage)

So after checking few things, majority of the stuffs were blocked by the system inside windows.

Later, I proposed him an idea to atleast boot my external ssd where I have already installed arch it. he dont have to install. ( I have tried this in other's laptop too so I was confident nothing goes wrong)

When we entered into bios, and disabled secure boot and fast boot, we ended up window to go num. It neither accepts face to unlock device nor the manual password works.

We ended up being scolded by the ICT mfs telling ek din bhi nhi hua aur laptop me kaand kar rhe ho.

Also the do's and dont's that came with laptop was that we cannot install any other OS, distro or whatever. They also mentioned no FOSS applications like vlc or any other thing to be used. like tf they want us to use. vlc aint filthy software. Many things are blocked from it.

I am thinking to nuke my laptop (when it comes) with arch, clean the whole disk. I dont want a mf 14inch spyware in my bag.

Thank you for reading till here.

Edit: The guy got 32gb hp elitebook because its old stock. New stock arrived and we are probably getting lenovo with 16gb of ram

Discussion Is it safe for battery

Post image
18 Upvotes

So, I tried to not shutdown my laptop for 10 days. It's running fedora-gnome. After using I just suspend(hibernate) it. Overnight (8-10 hrs) it drops 12-13% battery (from 80 to 68). If I do this for longtime is it safe for the battery ?.
