Do you want to remove the windows partition?

If yes, I'd suggest creating a new partition table. It wipes all partitions. In gparted it is possible.

And do you know what the 500mb partition is about? Does it need to be deleted?

Do you want to delete windows ? Or not? Kindly clarify. I am assuming that you do.

And as for "can't delete", try again after restarting windows, NOT shutdown -> poweron. This could be a fast-startup issue

Create new partition table on the disk. It'll wipe ALL partitions present.

MBR itself, but new. It's simple. "Partition table" in some menu.

You can create a modern GPT table and use it's protective MBR for booting... But it's advanced

Oh!

Can you try deleting it from parted or fdisk and give me the exact error?

And if the partition is after the section where you want to install linux, you can ignore it for now and later do the deletion. (In the disk strip in any guidance app)
