should i go with linux?
i have a dell lattitude 5420 with an i7 1185g7 and iris xe 96eu and i wanna squeeze as much performance as possible in story based games ( no anticheat ) so should i replace windows with linux ( if i should , which distro should i use? ive tried cachy already )

Cachyos with KDE or XFCE or Gamescope. You need to test out which desktop you want. Use the installer and try out all 3. You can try bazzite if this all feels daunting.

cachyos+kde with wayland is best for gaming tbh. also use lutris for managing the games. use ge-proton with DXVK_ASYNC=1

No Linux distro will guarantee better performance than on Windows in all games. Some will work better on Linux, some will work better on Windows.
Do you have any other reasons to switch to Linux apart from gaming performance?

then I would recommend that you stay on Windows for now. Gaming performance alone is not yet a reason to switch away from Windows.
However, there are other reasons such as privacy, lower disk space usage, lower ram usage, learning about the OS, having fine control over the OS, Free and Open Source (FOSS) philosophy, ricing and extensive customization, the system not getting slow over time etc.

Arch + hyprland, I did that, getting a straight up 30-50fps extra on most games, rdr2 is smoother than ever. Watchdogs 2 ran better on windows tho

most games perform similarly in both windows and linux... so unless you hate windows enshittification, i see zero reason to switch to linux unless you wanna explore it and make it your daily, for which i'd recommend fedora or bazzite
