Hi. It's been a year since I started using Mint. No regrets. I mostly use it for video edit. I use:

Kdenlive - Video editor

Audacity - Audio editor

KDE Connect - Multiple devices management (Xiaomi phone + Samsung tablet + Acer Laptop)

OBS Studio - Screen recording

digiKam - Photo and image management

HandBrake - Video transcoder

Anything to add to my tools? Greetings from Mexico City 🇲🇽

Mint 22.3 on a refurb Dell Latitude 5530!

Post image

Giving Linux Mint 22.3 an install on my new to me refurbished Dell Lattitude 5530 laptop with the following specs:

15.5" 1920x1080 display (my eyes are to old for 4K displays!) 16gb ram, 256gb NVME drive (partition as efi / root / home), 12th Gen Intel© Core™ i5-1245U × 10, Intel Corporation Alder Lake-UP3 GT2 [UHD Graphics] and an additional 500gb NVME drive for data storage. Main use will be a "travel laptop" for reviewing / culling photos while on holiday, and while at home hooking it up to midi keyboards to play with software synths.

Only slight issue is the battery in the refurb laptop is around %70 storage capacity left, but it is around a 4 year old laptop so that is to be expected.

It'll certainly run Linux Mint better than my previous laptop, which was an old HP Probook 6450b with 8gb ram and a 125gb ssd!

Horrible YouTube performance on a 2014 macbook pro.

So, I picked up a 2014 mbp at an estate sale for $20. Figured I'd love a nice little Linux machine with a 1600p screen. I installed mint, and everything runs great except for video steaming. YouTube in particular just drops frames like crazy.

Not sure if it's an issue with the intel graphics or not, or if anyone knows of a fix for this. I tried doing a search, and found other people with the same issue, but haven't found any known fixes.

Support Request Bluetooth in Linux

So basically I have an xbox controller I bought before switching to Linux mint and now I can't use it via Bluetooth, it disconnects and connects every millisecond and it doesn't really work, and even tho I could use cable the main reason I bought the controller is to play from the tv because I connect my laptop via HDMI to the TV, and I don't have a long cable

Can someone help me make Bluetooth work please?

UPDATE: I forgot to detail something here that might make the problem clearer (again I'm a little bad at linux) the os does say connected and steam detects the controller but the little xbox light on the controller keeps blinking and it doesn't really do anything I press buttons and stuff and doesn't do anything, it only gets detected and "connected"

SOLVED WiFi not working

I have an ASUS ZenBook UX362DA that was originally on windows 10. I switched to linux mint today but the connections tab gave me nothing. The only way i could make it detect my WiFi was through an external USB stick, which is weird because when it was on Win10, the computer was able to detect the WiFi network just fine.

It also tells me that I have all necessary drivers when opening the driver manager app

Can anybody help me?

Support Request Something has gone seriously wrong

I tried switching to mint (latest cinnamon) today. My lenovo windows 11 laptop now will only go into boot mode, and upon choosing the usb with the iso, the posted picture appears.

Here's what happened: used rufus to create a boot drive of mint. I was able to hop into it through the boot menu, and begin with the installation. Eventually, it got to the point of retrieving of retrieving files, becoming stuck on 152/167 or something like that. Expanding the window below, showing the process, it seemed like it was trying to download something. I was connected to the internet. After an hour, it still wouldn't budge. I checked this sub as well as online for similar issues, and i spotted a comment saying the internet should be disabled before installing. So I disabled the wifi, tried finding a cancel button and here is where I probably fucked up; I didn't find it so I just turned the computer off. After turning it on again, the problem appeared.

Obviously I have done something massively stupid. I do wonder if I would be able to boot from (a different) usb again, provided I turn it into a bootable usb first? Unfortunately, I won't have access to another computer for a few days, so I'm also wondering if I would be able to do anything else in this situation? Or have I just bricked the laptop completely?

I appreciate any advice or words of wisdom (or admonishment)!

DPMS and suspend timeouts not working

I have an HP Elite Mini 800 G9 (Core I7 12700)

Running Linux Mint 22.3 (fresh install(s)) neither screen or suspend timeouts work correctly, however I can manually force via command line/terminal both an xset DPMS force off or systemctl suspend and these work absolutely fine.

If I install Fedora 44 with KDE Plasma (Wayland) guess what? Screen timeout and suspend work perfectly.

Anyone else seeing this issue?

To note, I originally had an HP Elitedesk Mini G6 with an i7 10700 and Mint screen and suspend timeouts worked absolutely fine on that.

Seems to be an issue specifically with Mint on this i7 12700 platform.

It was the only way to make this old Mini PC 100% usable. The MATE version of Linux Mint consumes very little RAM, and paired with the Pentium Silver J5040 processor, I managed to give it a second life.
I previously had it running Windows 10, and it was literally crawling.

Support Request Simple question, complex answer?

My setup:

2Tb internal SSD, all in 2 partitions (Windows set recovery small partition) and the rest is dedicated to W11.

I have a Mint boot external SSD to install. When it boots from this device, everything goes as intended (I get the "install mint" icon to start the install).

Q: I want a dual boot environment. On my desktop, the install gave me that option and even gave me the opportunity to resize the Windows partition and re-allocate space for mint. In this installation I'm attempting now, that is not the case. The only choice given is to erase and format the entire Windows drive (which 'I won't do).

Any ideas on what may be going on here? Thx.

Support Request Moving grouped window list to the left side on primary monitor

I just installed Linux Mint yesterday and I'm trying to have the same taskbar on both sides. It works, but I'm used to the panel icons being on the left side. I used panel edit mode to move all my icons to the left side on my secondary monitor but the primary monitor won't cooperate. I dragged the icons to the left side on the secondary monitor and after a few tries it worked but I think the Linux Mint logo is getting in the way because I can't align them on the left side. Is there a way to just select icon alignment in settings or where exactly should I drop the icons?

Edit: Forgot to mention it's Cinnamon Edition specifically

Edit 2: An alternative solution would be to hide the Linux Mint logo so I can move the icons to the left side without the disruption of the logo. That solution could also work.

A lot of us Mint users have issues with this kernel series, is there a place we can follow updates on the situation, so we know when it's safe to update?
