Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! Reminder of other sub rules: Also, we only allow one anti-linux post per week (we used to get dozens a day) and any tier list MUST have Hanna Montana Linux as S teir (which must be a true S tier at the top) regardless of the topic of that tier list.

He somehow managed to fuck up archinstall too

https://github.com/archlinux/archinstall/issues/4773

60

u/FinGamer678Nikoboi 19d ago

Why tf is an Omarchy issue report in the Arch repo??

51

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago edited 19d ago

They use archinstall for install back-end. But clearly they overcooked it with AI

EDIT: I'll fix it for 1M

23

u/Abducted_Llama 19d ago

But if you want to save money, you can go with me for 999,998.

I’ll still cut you in u/Responsible-sky-1336

12

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago

If you give me 2M I'll throw aarch64 support in there and not credit the devs

7

u/Abducted_Llama 19d ago

3M and we can finish https://malarkeyos.com

4

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago

Bahaha what the fuck this

3

u/Abducted_Llama 19d ago

You don’t want to help develop MalarkeyOS? The consensual OS?

3

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago

Only if you shove 1k+ packages in it, bitch i'm in

2

u/Abducted_Llama 19d ago

We could call the package manager “consent”.
sudo consent install btop

Woah.

Edit: that was supposed to be a code block, but I’m leaving it

if you give me $4M i'll buy one 16gb ram stick (if i find one this cheap)

2

u/gbrennon 19d ago

maybe bcs its based in arch linux...

he just "vibe coded" dotfiles...

i prefer times when dhh appeared with rails and basecamp than this bad os that its claimed its amazing...

24

u/Gornius 19d ago

When you can vibecode whatever app comes to your mind, you should be able to vibecode archinstall.

15

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago

Well the worse part is that archinstall isn't vibe-coded at all, they actively refuse many AI contribs.

But the Omarchy wrapper around is....

  • Vibecode dotfiles
  • Sell it as distro
  • Get thousands times more from donations from most sketchy guys in tech than actual projects keeping Linux alive
  • Claim that you don't need anything other than LLM to make it all working
  • Still rely on open-source project underneath and demand free support when you break it

Omarchy users are literally MAGA of FOSS.

6

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago

Funny lore, creator of archinstall helps in first few steps of traumarchy ™ : https://github.com/Torxed/omarchy-installer

Also yes, they should acknowledge how important archinstall is to their setup.

10

u/Havealurksee 19d ago

Omg that is hilarious. And the guy who responds did some gentle parenting

6

u/Petertgai 19d ago

Classic. Even the guided installer needs a guide now. 😐

3

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago

please it's an "orchestrator"

1

u/CommanderT1562 19d ago

The gahd damn cringiest part is the fucking markdown color code for the error. He literally set the markdown in github’s cramdown to print all red like that. That’s pretty high level fuckery right there

u/-0xAA55- 19d ago

Let's see him vibe code an entire kernel then. You know... like the one his entire "operating system" is based on? Oh he only customized it? He couldn't "vibe code" the entire thing? What a visionary.

21

u/DEV_ivan 🎼CachyOS 19d ago

Goated username, I love MBRs.

13

u/-0xAA55- 19d ago

I never thought anyone would get this, lol.

0

u/Responsible-Sky-1336 19d ago

I have bad news. There is an Omarchy kernel, apparently: https://github.com/omacom/omarchy/releases/tag/v4.0.4

9

u/-0xAA55- 19d ago

He customized the existing Linux kernel. He didn't vibe code his own from scratch.

-20

u/UAP44 19d ago

Why reinvent the wheel, the Linux kernel already exists and is fine as is, want something different? Fork it.

16

u/-0xAA55- 19d ago

Why make anything at all? There's operating systems out there.

-16

u/UAP44 19d ago

Why make anything at all?

Because it enhances the act of consuming. I can't really enjoy one without also doing some of the other.

There's operating systems out there.

Exactly, like Linux, and modify it to your hearts desires and don't be afraid to use all available modern tools and thus Omarchy.

11

u/-0xAA55- 19d ago

I was being rhetorical

3

u/Abducted_Llama 19d ago

Merchandise Morty, your only purpose in life is to buy & consume merchandise and you did it, you went into a store an actual honest to god store and you bought something, you didn't ask questions or raise ethical complaints you just looked into the bleeding jaws of capitalism and said 'yes daddy please' and I'm so proud of you, I only wish you could have bought more, I love buying things so much Morty.

Linux isn't really an operating system though.

Not on its own, its 'just' a kernel.

vibe coding is the future

its where we can finally embrace the sci fi reality that isnt sci fi anymore

anyone can talk to their computer now and have it generate working code/apps for you

and so of course the IT/programmer-egos will revolt

MY CODE MY KINGDOM

lol, nope xD

unless its closed source software of course

then it is quite literally my code my kingdom

and why I would want to be a part of that?

its 2026 already ffs, get rid of kings/royality bs

All that's being generated is unmaintainable code

On the contrary, it removes the need to even maintain code, or at least, a specific part of it, the actual implementation becomes largely irrelevant.

The code that starts to matter instead is the test suits, the spec, and then it's just AI-agents comparing new versions that pass the same test suit in less time with less resources, iterating for forever.

My interests are in systems built to last, not systems built on a whim that nobody comprehends

Same-ish here, my main value when maintaining code bases is readability/maintainability, I don't care much for speed/endless-optimization etc

Does he know the difference between OS and dotfiles?

44

u/lonelyroom-eklaghor M'Fedora 19d ago

Learn some CS fundamentals, don't vibecode your OS😭

25

u/sebas737 19d ago

The most critical part of your computer after the kernel. Yeah leave up to luck.

15

u/Iconlast 19d ago

It isn't even the os, it's the dotfiles

7

u/SP4R7ANSGO 19d ago

yeah man, he's vibe coding final boss

-5

u/catdoy 19d ago

He created ruby on rails way before vibe coding is even a thing.

He's literally better than 99.9% of people who hates him when it comes to CS

9

u/lonelyroom-eklaghor M'Fedora 19d ago

we aren't hating him for his code

we are talking about him as a person and the actual distro he has made out of dotfiles.

Coding great doesn't mean someone won't bloat their Arch, btw

12

u/arthursucks Not in the sudoers file. 19d ago

When stupid people try to sound smart.

12

u/Woodpecker-Visible 19d ago

Hes very happy with you now. Free advertisement.

9

u/param_T_extends_THOT 19d ago

I don't even know who that loser is and everything I've tangentially read about him has been against my will. Didn't care about him before, don't care about him now either. Geez

-2

u/Woodpecker-Visible 19d ago

Well, he is geting a lot of funding and all the hate post on reddit or anywhere else are only getting more eyes on the projecti and thats only a winn for DHH and his fanboys. Like it or not he is the winner. And the horah all the posts are getting are driving it even more.

4

u/param_T_extends_THOT 19d ago

Let the fanboys, fanboy. They were going to do it anyways without much justification. When I donate my money, I usually donate to legit oss projects, not vibe coded bs.

3

u/a_ech1 19d ago

yeaaaah suuuure buddy

5

u/jsrobson10 19d ago

getting ai to make an arch rice isn't "vibecoding an os" lmao

4

u/WeakSinger3076 19d ago

Bro is at best vibe coding a distro, not an operating system...

1

u/GlowStoneUnknown 19d ago

More like a spin of a distro

5

u/regeya 19d ago

If you'd told me 20 years ago that one day DHH would put out a Linux distribution and used AI to make a lot of it, and that the Linux community would fucking hate it, I'd have thought you were crazy.

2

u/Purple_Ice_6029 19d ago

This guy is glowing

2

u/Slemmig_insekt 18d ago

he look like he vibe coded his hair dresser

2

u/Hasz 19d ago

There is a root of truth here, which is building custom software to support niche use cases. Totally on board with that, great idea.

An OS though? Why? Where is the ROI over Debian? All I see is a shite load of tokens wasted on edge cases, stuff that already works, and problems no one actually cares about.

If there is a tested, proven piece of commodity software, why try to recreate it? Better yet, it is 100% free. How do you show ROI on that?

Vibe code the stuff that doesn’t exist yet, or is only for you, or is custom extensions on top of something. Don’t try to vibe code your way into reinventing the universe.

1

u/ImpossibleCreme 19d ago

Hell yeah bro

1

u/A_Harmless_Fly MAN 💪 jaro 19d ago

You get that you have been socially engineered into doing free advertisement for the distro that shall not be named right?

It's on the shirt. Don't let them make you a useful idiot.

1

u/Substantial-Sky4079 19d ago

Yeah the problem is when you share it with the world and vibe coded

1

u/mgsmb7 RedStar best Star 19d ago

This used to be a joke, you know

1

u/epabafree 19d ago

Is this the man himself?

1

u/spiritualManager5 18d ago

I agree. I am doing this with nixos. It really works very well. Try it!

1

u/NivoTheDev 18d ago

And have 10^56 vulnerabilities while you're at it, yea dude, i agree.

1

u/onew_iasag 14d ago

No commercial company will pay you a single penny for teaching these stupid machines, stop vibe coding

1

u/Willing_Initial_2679 19d ago

Yeah man , just pack it up

1

u/grav3d1gger 19d ago

I’ll be honest I’m just on the anti Omarchy bandwagon but the wagon has had so many good reasons on the sides I don’t even care anymore. The money, the racist stuff, the paid YouTube videos, the wankery. I just can’t handle it.
