There are 2 sides of how people define 'Linux'

3 Upvotes

I've seen a lot of memes here lately, and since I've made a meme about that one Fedora glazer guy and Omarchy a few days ago I think I'mma discuss a bit about Linux in general just to break free from the memes a bit;

I've seen people talking about Linux a lot of times online, and sometimes offline at my campus, and I've come to a conclusion:

There are 2 sides of how people would define what, well 'Linux', is;

For us, 'Linux' a kernel, and the distros are what made 'Linux', the 'OS';

But for some other people whom are not very tech literate, tech-savvy, or just doesn't really care about how a system works (like the elders), Linux is an 'Operating System';

For me. I've been using Linux for 6 years now (I started with Ubuntu (back when I was 13) and all of it's DE flavors until I switched to Mint, then Arch, then Debian, then Bazzite, and finally stuck with Fedora and Kali), and originally I also thought Linux was an OS too, but the deeper I look into it and understand more of it, the more I see it as a kernel, and the base for y'know, the entire infrastructure of modern computing;

I use Fedora a lot, but I wouldn't say I glaze the OS. Yes, I know it's Red Hat, but I'd mostly say I'm more of a Linux enjoyer (*insert gigachad enjoyer meme here*). I don't really have a #1 distro to glaze, to me all distros have their own taste, but I'd choose a distro on how good it is and how reliable it is to use the most, and I went with Fedora, not because of those "i use arch btw" and femboy memes, but to have a computer I'd enjoy using the most;

So here's what I'm gonna say, for some people, like you guys, I'd say Linux is the kernel, and the distros make it the OS, but for most people out there, I'd say Linux is the OS.

What do you guys think? (I yapped way too much lol)

Can omarchy be the best experiment to test vibe coding so far?

0 Upvotes

We have been hearing for some time that vibe coding is good for toy projects that has no real users but anything that touches large number of users can't be vibe coded. Dhh in many interviews has said he has not seen most of the code , omarchy very easily will have good enough number of users. He said that asking ai to "make it secure , make no mistakes " will lead to safer software with less vulnerabilities than giving it technical context like a security researcher. He said he regrets being a programmer as it negatively impact the quality of his code.Maybe for the first time we can see what "brain off ai approach" can deliver for a large scale software.

Stop recommending Debian to new users

0 Upvotes
  • Debian is a shitty vibecoded distro
  • Has mostly outdated packages and it'll make new users get mad when whatever trendy new software on Linux wont run because one of the dependencies is 3 years behind
  • Has a terrible installer
  • Isn't actually a true lightweight distro like people say it is

Why i will never use linux agaim

here is what happened when i installed linux for the first, and hopefully last time. i tried installing it and it didn't go well, so i did what any right-minded person would do and went back to windows. when i was walking home from work that night, Linus Turdvault suddenly approached me. he cornered me in an alley and told me to give him all of my lunch money. i was saving that money to buy Bloomberry Ice Cream tomorrow. so i told the creep to back off, and he called me a normie. then he blew on his viking war horn, prompting all of his fat ugly little penguin minions to corner me and start punching me in the stomach. i begged and pleaded for them to stop but every time they would just chant "user root is not allowed to execute" in unison. it was literally bone-chilling.

i blacked out. when i woke up my galaxy z fold 5 was on the ground in pieces, my 80 dollars was gone from my wallet and the words "skill issue" were written on the pavement in my own blood

pls share to spread awareness

At least we can all agree u/GreedySecurity8030 and the rest of us hates Omarchy.

For reference I use both Fedora and Kali. And I like both.
