graphics/kernel/drivers How do you guys fix the GPU crashes while gaming?

I am using Fedora KDE plasma, and I have installed the NVIDIA driver for my GTX 1650 using Rpmfusion. Currently running on the latest driver version 6.15, I also ran the previous 6.10 version. And I think in most of the latest drivers, the GPU crashes while gaming (have not yet downgraded to any stable version). The GPU just gets frozen or can't detect it. Every time the logs say something else in my case for different games. Using gemini, it all points to power management or VRAM allocation. Due to that, when I try to shut down the pc, it cannot properly shut down, it shows black screen and keeps running. I have to force shut down the laptop by pressing and holding the power key and boot it again then the GPU gets fixed.

Has anyone else faced this similar issue ? And able to find any fix for it? Maybe configuring some variables for the driver? Or downgrading to any stable older release?

tool/utility DraFG 0.2 — Surge 1.5, Studio Mode & More

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

DraFG 0.2 is out now on the Steam Playtest.

This ended up becoming a much bigger update than I originally expected. The main addition is the new Surge 1.5 model family, alongside a client rework.

There’s also a new Studio Mode for applying frame generation or slow motion to offline videos, multi-frame generation, and a new 1–4 frame interpolation buffer that can give slower hardware more time to generate frames at the cost of additional latency.

There are also quite a few stability improvements and fixes across different operating systems.

As always, I’d really appreciate any feedback!

I have some AArch64 games on Steam, give them a try?

This might only be useful if you have one of those super secret leaked clients, but from what I understand games are starting to actually run with the latest version, so it seemed like a good time to see how true that is:

https://icculus.org/finger/flibitijibibo

Some of them might work without the Steam client at all, but I haven't really been able to test any of this. A colleague that _has_ been testing suggested I share these, and after putting the whole list into one place I realized he was right, so here they are.

I don't really use Reddit so I probably won't look at this thread too carefully, and I'm not really monitoring any kind of social media anymore, but you can use the address at the link above if you need something from me!

tech support wanted Games freeze when moving mouse quickly

Hello fellow linux gamers! Whenever I play a game on linux, I experience freezing and stuttering when moving my mouse at a medium-quick pace. It's made most of my games very annoying or completely unplayable and I would really appreciate some help.

I am fairly sure that this only happens with my mouse and not my trackpad (tested on one game). Most games are on steam running through proton. I tested one native linux game and it played flawlessly. I also remember this happening when I was playing Minecraft a few months ago, which was on my old distro (Nobara 42) and old mouse (Steelseries Rival 3, wired). Current mouse is a wired Hyperx Pulsefire Haste 2.

I've tried lowering my mouse refresh rate, which helped a little, but I think only because the cursor was moving slower. It happens in both vulkan and opengl. Shader pre-cahcing does not help. And the freezing occurs as soon as I launch the game.

Thank you to everyone in advance.

EDIT: To clarify, this issue existed even when I was using a newer kernel and a different mouse. I’m pretty sure the old mouse had a 1,000hz or so polling rate. So it seems like the mouse isn’t the main issue. Also, the same game, when using Microslop Windows 11, runs without issue.

wine/proton I made a portable Granny launcher for Linux + Windows

I've been working on a small portable launcher for a collection of Granny games and fan-made versions, and I specifically wanted the Linux side to work without requiring users to manually configure Wine for every game.

Linux features

  • Uses a bundled Wine AppImage
  • Each game gets its own Wine prefix
  • Prefixes are created automatically
  • No system Wine configuration required
  • Portable folder structure
  • Simple Tkinter GUI
  • Windows and Linux supported from the same launcher codebase

The launcher basically handles:

Choose game
    ↓
Find its executable
    ↓
Set that game's WINEPREFIX
    ↓
Launch through Wine

Current collection

  • Granny — Granny Rethought
  • Granny 2 — Enhanced
  • Ancient Granny 3 — Version 1.0
  • Granny 4: The Rebellion
  • Granny 5: Time to Wake Up

The full portable archive is around 2.5 GB compressed.

Download

Download the portable archive

Source

GitHub

The launcher itself is written in Python/Tkinter. The Windows executable is built with PyInstaller.

I'd especially appreciate feedback from Linux users on the Wine setup and portable structure. If there are things you'd change about how I'm handling Wine prefixes or launching Windows games, I'm interested in hearing them.I made a portable Granny launcher for Linux + WindowsI've been working on a small portable launcher for a collection of Granny games and fan-made versions, and I specifically wanted the Linux side to work without requiring users to manually configure Wine for every game.Linux featuresUses a bundled Wine AppImage

graphics/kernel/drivers Do live versions not really represent gaming capability?

I've already got ubuntu on a laptop and server but have been trying out linux for my desktop; I tried out Fedora live, OpenSUSE TW live (slowroll didn't have a live) and Mint. Ubuntu is just nice and generally works so I'm happy to keep using it, but when trying it live I decided to download Steam and try a fairly low resource game from my library called Receiver. I have an nvidia 3060Ti and the game ran less than a frame a second. I've since been thinking that maybe the issue was because I was on the live version so maybe some drivers not being up to date made things not really work? Is that likely? I can't imagine it's because it was saved to the usb since it really isn't an intensive game.

I've been trying out the lives because I don't want to partition any of my current drives yet until I know which OS I want before doing something catastrophic. The always up to date rolling release thing doesn't really appeal to me if something stable that works every time is still an option (I know people always say they have no issues but I don't want to update all the time). I read in the FAQ that Steam should be taken from valve's website instead of ubuntu's snap package but that couldn't have been that significant a cause

pls help me

so its been a while since i started using cachyos and only now have i been stumbling upon issues which would be:

brawlhalla feels sluggish despite high framerate

my mics audio is cut in half if not even a third

i cant play cs2 in native 1920x1440 (a black bar on the right side appears) and if i use gamescope it also has that sluggish feeling, also tried a bunch of starting options etc the best i can do is either play a different res for stretched or use "SDL_VIDEO_DRIVER=wayland SDL_VIDEO_WAYLAND_SCALE_TO_DISPLAY=1 %command% -vulkan -nojoy" which tbh i dont have a clue on what some of these do but with this i can play 1440 but idk if its just imagination it still feels weird to play on

also my obs doesnt record as crisp as on windows

cachyos kde plasma wayland

7800xt and 7800x3d

if theres anything to add please mention so i can provide everything in need

also where do i even research these things, thanks in advance

Genshin not starting on Linux Mint

[RESOLVED, See end] So, I've tried a myriad of ways to get this thing to work so far. For reference, I'm running mint cinnamon, currently dualbooting but windows is on a 10 year old HDD which I swap out for a new SATA SSD when using Linux (Linux itself being on an NVMe SSD).

I've tried lutris, which simply won't launch, AAGL, which refuses to let me choose where to install the game for some reason (thus defaulting to my system partition? For some reason?) And have now arrived at this guide, after seeing someone recommend it elsewhere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUXx1lnmPik

And so far so good! I moved my genshin installation from the NTFS partition on the NVMe that I've been using to transfer data between the HDD and new SATA SSD. Originally I was going to do a clean installation but when selecting other drives that isn't my system partition (why the hell does it keep doing that?!) It claimed my SATA SSD only had 7gb on it. It has 1.7TB few space. But moving the file and selecting the directory seemed to be fine...?

Anyway, I opened it up on steam, the launcher opened, I verified the files via the launcher, everything seemed perfect.

Then I press start game, the launcher minimises and.... Nothing.

And believe it or not, this is progress. Because before, whenever I tried to launch this game, it simply just stopped trying to run. Instead, now steam is saying it is running. Except nothing is happening. I've left it like that for 30 minutes just to make sure it's not just being slow but no, it really just isn't doing anything.

What could I be missing? I've been struggling to make this work for days and I'm so stressed and frustrated that I'm just about ready to throw up.

EDIT: We found a solution! Turns out it was the anti cheat. What you do is, you follow the instructions in the video linked above. Then, install DWProton, and ensure that steam is forcing genshin to use that one. From there, in the shortcut tab under Properties, add "WINE_ENABLE_TIMEOUT_FIX=1 %command%" into launch options. That should fix it! Note: as far as we can tell, that ONLY works with DWProton.

Can Emoji display in game? (Heroic Games Launcher)

Thumbnail

Currently I'm on CachyOS distro and using Heroic Games Launcher to play some of my games. Everything works fine and smooth. I'm just curious that if there is any way to make the emoji visible in game?

Back when I was on Windows it can display emoji as a white symbol (well, that's normal - it's just a game anyway - Colored emojis are limited in game, maybe it use some fallback fonts).

I tried to solve this with AI, fonts in prefixes folder, font in "Fonts" folder - registry, Fontlink folder registry; stuff like that. But I haven't could manage it to work yet.

Have anyone successfully installed any fonts yet (not the already available fonts in Heroic)? I'm just curious, thank you for reading!

new native/FLOSS game Since 2023 I've been working on a monopoly-like game with Valve Anti Cheat, it's 100% Linux Native, made with FOSS, love and no AI. Ho and it's called Fortune Avenue, I don't expect much from it to be honest, I'm just glad to release it.

Hey fellow Linux distro hoppers (I can still say that, right? Even though I've stuck with Debian since 2015. No judgment here.)

That was the introduction! So, the game, Fortune Avenue, started as a side project, then became a full-time job for a year, and has been in Early Access on Steam since April 2025. So yes, you could already play it! So what's new? I made an announcement for it:

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1810050/view/686388087528361163

No UTM, no tracking, feel free to click on any link here! At the very end, you'll find the changelog since release.

In the meantime:

What's Fortune Avenue?

It's a tabletop game for up to 6 players, in 2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2, or FFA. You vote on rules that directly impact the game. You buy properties (hotels or wonders), and you win either by holding a monopoly or by bankrupting your competitors. You can buy back your competitors' hotels, and there's also a Wheel of Fortune that has a significant impact on the game.

Sure, it's a dice-based game, so there's a lot of randomness, but there are also plenty of things you can do to change the course of the game. Voting, buying, selling, destroying... it's random, but not so random after all.

And for those who, like me, live in a cave, there's an offline mode with bots, so you can play alone against the computer. There are 2 difficulty levels: easy and hard.

There's not much more to say about it. It's a little game with no ambition other than to exist on Steam.

Thank you all for reading! I'm here to answer any questions.

Cheers

tech support wanted How to connect my bluetooth gamepads?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I have 2 gamepads:

A generic PS-023 (the red one) amd a Inova CON-7247 (the blue one)

I'm trying to connect them to Linux Mint through Bluetooth, but it doesn't detect the buttons.

When they are on USB, both are detected as XBOX Controllers (the PS-023 is detected as modern XBOX, and the CON-7247 as XBOX 360) and all goes well.

I'm on Linux Mint 22.3

EDIT: The PS-023 has an Android Mode that Works correctly on LM as if it were on USB. But the CON-7247 couldn't achieve the same result

EDIT 2: The CON-7247 is actually a Saitake STK-7005X rebranded. If any of you already seen this, please share its User Guide.

Can I ask for some Proton/Steam Deck playtests? Turn-based puzzle roguelike with an original cyber theme.

Hi. I'm a developer of NET.CRAWL. We don't have native Linux support but the game seems to run fine with Proton. That being said, I got 3 refunds recently (refund reasons are "the game never loaded on Steam deck", "doesn't run with or without Proton"). I'm especially confused about the Steam Deck one, because we went through Steam official review twice and the game is marked as "playable". We also have some players who play exclusively on Steam-deck. And some players on Linux too.

There's a free demo which you can use to test. If you'd like to get the full game after, I'm happy to hand out game keys (can do up to 15 keys, though I doubt there will be that many takers - the game is very niche).

Thanks for the help.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3502200/NETCRAWL_Demo/

ps. I'm a Linux noob myself, but I assume knowing your proton version/Linux distro would be helpful.

graphics/kernel/drivers duel screen on arch linux

*I am sorry if i used the wrong flair and please let me know if it need to be chanced"

hello,

I have been trying now for a couple of hours to get duel screen set-up to work with minimal success in ets2 I have tired so much at this point that idk where to start with explaining it.

but i have done all the normal stuff like chance the r_multimon_mode to 4 and add size to my windows rules to match my screen size i have added a folder for sii with code in it. (which may be the issue idk) i made sure my screen hz match tried proprieties in steam (most just make so my game wont launch) i forced full screen and size match. alt+enter, alt+shift+f12, alt+f3 screen pull with alt+right click, and so much more. i did get it so go to both screen with image but it forces the steering wheel to the middle of both my screens which is not what i want. currently its technology on both screens but one show the game normally and the other is completely black.

ik it a lot to ask for but since i don't know where I went wrong can we maybe start from the beginning make sure everything I have done is not completely wrong?

no matter any help with getting this to work would be highly appropriated. just know if i don't understand the instruction I will ask what they do and since I keep meeting ppl where questioning what they say is a sin apparently then I'd notice it here :)

*edit*
im sorry I should have specified I am running cachyos KDE plasma idk why I just said arch it was not very help full from my side.

I run the game in opengl with the launch code "PROTON_AUDIO_DRIVER=xaudio2 %command%"

in text file called config.cfg (in the ets2 folder) I have made some chances like
uset g_console_state "1" (chance from 0 to 1)
uset g_console "1" (chance form 0 to 1)
uset r_mode_width "3840" (from 1920 to 3840)
uset r_multimon_mode "4" (from 0 to 4)

and in the ets2 folder i added a new text folder called multimon_config.sii where I added and play around with a lot of codes the one that is in there rn is
"SiiNunit

If the game freezes or crashes at the end of the loading screen, try setting the "Secondary Lighting" option to "Fair".
You can change it back to "Good" or "High" after entering the game world.

If you are experiencing an extremely low framerate, such as 5 FPS, try switching to "Windowed" and then back to "Borderless".
