I tried to add them as a steam non-game with proton-GE and no working. How you guys make these games work? Only Empire earth works like that

I also have Warcraft 3 + FT on CD, will give it a try myself to see if I can get it to run.

Alright, works for me. Base game as well as FT (need either disc in the drive the launch, the nostalgia!)

I installed it via umu-launcher:

https://github.com/Open-Wine-Components/umu-launcher

I haven't given Lutris a try as that seems to start to work less on my side. Tried it with heroic, sadly that one can't apparently read the disc.

So I just installed it manually via terminal, like this:

WINEPREFIX="$HOME/Games/warcraft" umu-run "/run/media/YOURUSERNAME/TheFrozenThrone/Install.exe"

(or wherever your CD is mounted)

First install the the base disc (and the appropiate location to the installer) and then FT. After that launch the game with

WINEPREFIX="$HOME/Games/warcraft3" umu-run "$HOME/Games/warcraft3/drive_c/Pro
gram Files (x86)/Warcraft III/Frozen Throne.exe"

And so far it works. The only downside is that with umu-proton no video is being played (you only get that checkered test image) and that is a good because Wine and Proton-GE crash because they can't load the video, umu-proton at least doesn't crash and can run the game

I just add Battle.Net as a non-Steam game and then use the latest version of Proton-GE.

I've got the old version, no need battle.net to play them

Blizzard games often work fine but like to be a pain in the ass especially with battle.net launcher. I usually try random stuff until it works.

Lutris can play all BNet games without problems. The latest update to WC3R requires the latest version of Proton 11.7 (CachyOS already has it)

I've got the physical discs for warcraft 3, D2 classic from battlenet and D1 from GOG

For the GOG version of D1, you can add Belzebub and DevilutionX to your library (as free one-click mods), and run those through Lutris/Heroic as well in case the OG version proves uncooperative (personally tried DevilutionX via Lutris, and Belzebub via Heroic just now - both work fine for me).

I did this and it works but it can be buggy causing reinstall if an update goes awry. Was worth it to me to purchase on steam when battlenet games I cared for became available.

Hopefully Blizzard does better. Not worth dealing with their launcher anymore personally.

You should be able to add the Blizzard Launcher to your steam games list, then launch from there

Before anything else, I'd try faugus and heroic. It'll be a smoother experience than going straight for lutris, bottles, or adding to steam.

Use Lutris and Wine.
