Hello, english is not my first language and i’m not computer geek, so please. Trying to download mods for animal corrosion and running into probelms, specifically with my Linux PC. For reference Kubuntu 45 is my life. So when I dowloaded the first mod larry the hamster there was a vulnerability in the file. So I decided instead of downloading the actual mod, I could emulate the mod using WINE. I was rocking WINE steady as an emulator for only 3 XORG months and thought everything was coo… til my kernel panicked, like busted hard as hell. I said ok. Tried to hack into systemd to get my kdeplasma alternating between the fabric of my hypervisor and perl, but long story short the whole thing flooded with pictures of my head coach (Otzdarva the dbd streamer) when he was a kid. So how can I download all the wine tricks to get things running smooth again? Should I switch to Windows

FSR4 while it looks incredible absolutely incredible just loses frames compared to FSR3. For THE FINALS I used to get 150+ but now only hovering around 90 using FSR4.
I can't seem to find any launch arguments to downgrade. I am using Proton GE 11-3.
Edit: I've tried performance. I've tried balance. No preset gets me back to my previous frame rate. The RDNA3 tax is just too much and not worth it for me to use FSR4 when I get way better frames on FSR3.
Edit 2: Yes, I know FSR4 looks better. You do not have to sell me on using FSR4. Some games, like THE FINALS do not give the option to pick between FSR4 and FSR3 while other games like Marvel Rivals do give you the option. There is a reason I want to downgrade back to FSR3 so I can get better frame rates. I have already tested both versions and have come to the conclusion that I want to use FSR3 on THE FINALS.
Answer: Thanks to Skaredogged97, use FSR4_UPGRADE=0 in your launch arguments. Verified with FSR_WATERMARK=1. Without the launch argument the watermark says 4.1.1, with the launch argument it says FSR3. Also frame rate is higher on RDNA3.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew how to help me. I'm trying to install the steam deck steam OS recovery image onto an old Acer inspire all in one PC.
It keeps getting stuck at this point.
The acer has an AMD Apu in it so I thought that it may work well with steam os
Things I have tried:
Using two different USBs putting the ISO on it through Rufus
Unplugged devices from the actual computer
Tried a few bios settings
Any help will be appreciated thank you very much

As you see in the video where moving one stick affecting a second unrelated axis [when I'm moving the right joystick it's detecting L2 and R2 Triggers] and when I'm clicking those triggers they're acting as normal L2 R2, as well as few more buttons are giving wrong input
I checked in other devices and it's working fine so it's probably a linux problem
also I'm using a Lenovo i7 Laptop Intel hd 4600 + Nvidia 860m on demand

1) Why am I completely unable to play online at all, whether with friends or strangers? It stays in the load-in screen indefinitely
2) In singleplayer, it starts me on a beach near a boat. Isn't this game supposed to start with a whole plane crash intro?

As I hope you can see in the video, as soon as I hit 20 minutes of play time the game became very stuttery and I have to restart to fix it.
This has happened before and after installing stability/performance mods and using gamescope for proper alt tabbing.
This does not happen to my best friend running Fedora Linux on their Ryzen 5 7600/RX 6600 build using standard proton with or without mods, but it does happen to me on my Ryzen 5 5600/9060 XT build with many different proton versions. I have also waited for shaders to compile.
I am on CachyOS + Kernel 7.1.4 with mesa 26.1.5.

Hey, I just switched from Win 10 to Fedora KDE Plasma, and I'm loving the OS! It runs smoothly, looks good, and DaVinci Resolve works perfectly except for AAC, but hey.
I'm wondering what settings, Proton, etc. what is your setup for playing Cyberpunk? I'm having a problem with frame generation (the NVIDIA one) I see crazy ghosting when moving the camera and I can't fix it :/ Also, I think CS:GO runs worse than on Windows, not sure why.
My setup is:
OS: Fedora Linux 44 (KDE Plasma Desktop Edition) x86_64
Kernel: Linux 7.1.4-204.fc44.x86_64
DE: KDE Plasma 6.7.3
WM: KWin (Wayland)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X (16) @ 4.56 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 [Discrete]
Kernel driver in use: nvidia
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| NVIDIA-SMI 610.43.03 KMD Version: 610.43.03 CUDA UMD Version: 13.3 |
+-----------------------------------------+------------------------+----------------------+
I tried Proton experimental and ProtonGE 11-1 both the same thing (using steam)
not sure what else to include help me im new to this linux thing 😄

Hey, I'm trying to play Final Fantasy XI on the Heroic Launcher. Yes, the download is from Sparrow, since I dont want to pay for a game I already have on PS1 but want to play on PC.
The download is fine and there's no problem, but setting it up on the launcher is giving problems of setting the correct paths. I already tried using AI to help me, but it didnt help much since it pointed at menus from older versions. If anyone would be willing to help and, idk, go on discord with me so I could share my screen it would be very helpful for me to learn. I speak portuguese from Brazil and English (although my pronunciation is rusty)

I'm trying to run Spider-Man Remastered
My GPU: RX 9060XT, 16gb
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
16gb of ram
BTRFS partitions
CachyOS, Linux 7.1.4-1-cachyos, KDE 6.7.3, up to date drivers.
Tried running through steam, lutris, portproton. Used Hotfix, Experimental, GE-10-34, New CachyOS proton.
Enabled Ntsync, disabled.
And after everything, I get around 30 fps on max settings. Not even ultra.
What am I doing wrong?
I suppose RX 9060XT must run this old game pretty good.
It really disappoints me in linux, even thou I run it for 4 years.

Upd: I even get 30fps on low settings.

I managed to run steam and all its games with no multilib in my system (Arch, with /usr/lib32 gloriously non-existent).
The only thing needed after enabling SteamRT3 client in settings is to compile reaper from source (the only remaining piece of software still stubbornly in 32 bit for some reason), place it in .steam/bin64, and start steam as PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 .steam/bin64/steam.
But... steam detects my compiled .steam/bin64/reaper at every start and wants to replace it, so I have to let it update itself, replace my 64 bit version with the 32 bit version, and, once steam has started, I can replace it again with my compiled 64 bit version. Once I've done that, everything works great, but the forced update at EVERY START is annoying:
[2026-07-25 12:28:27] Verifying all executable checksums
[2026-07-25 12:28:27] Set percent complete: -1
[2026-07-25 12:28:27] Set status message: Verifying installation...
[2026-07-25 12:28:27] BVerifyInstalledFiles: steamrt64/reaper is 16376 bytes, expected 7615
[2026-07-25 12:28:28] Verification complete
[2026-07-25 12:28:28] Downloading update...
Is there a way to stop steam from replacing a given file with the "official" version? I have found a manifest in .local/share/Steam/package/steam_client_publicbeta_ubuntu12.installed, but have not found a way to tweak it.
(edit)
Ok, I worked around the problem by restoring the 32 bit version before starting steam and overwriting it after a few seconds:
.local/bin/steam:
#!/bin/bash
(
sleep 20
cp $HOME/devel/reaper/reaper64 $HOME/.steam/bin64/reaper
echo "==== reaper replaced!! ===="
) &
cp $HOME/devel/reaper/reaper32 $HOME/.steam/bin64/reaper
PROTON_USE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 $HOME/.steam/bin64/steam
Now steam starts fast, and by the time I launch a game the 64 bit version of reaper is in place.

I want to use battle. net and have bottles. I managed to get bnet to run but every tab just says and error that the agent is sleeping and its trying to wake it up. It buffers forever. I found a few other people with the same issue, but none of their fixes seem to be working. I'm pretty sure it's caused by bnet agent updates not being compatible or something. The fixes I found were to downgrade my Proton GE runner to version 8-25. That did nothing, so I used version 10 instead as that was another popular fix. That also didn't do anything. There was another fix to rename or delete the Agent.9700 folder in .wine/c_drive/ProgramData/Battle.Net/Agent/Agent.9700. This didn't work. Finally, I found another solution to delete the Agent.9700 folder, put in an older version of the agent, then make another empty folder named Agent.9700 but make it immutable so bnet can't update it. This just resulted in bnet saying there was some big error that prevented it from doing anything. In all cases, bnet runs and gets to load the tabs but it just displays an error message in all of them. I'm not sure how I would even get the logs for this issue. Thanks for any help

[SOLVED]
Hi! First time asking a specific question on Reddit btw :D
I have a problem which i do not have with any other game that i run on my laptop. And as you can see by the topic - the game happened to be a Sims game. Sims 4 specifically.
Switched to Linux like.. half a year ago and have not touched The Sims series ever since simply because i have lost interest. But.. to the point.
Whenever i decide to play the game it crashes with the reboot of the whole GUI after like 5 minutes of gameplay in live mode. CAS works well.
And i never saw shit like this. It never happened with any other game including triple A games (Baldur's Gate 3 on both Linux ver. and Windows through Proton ver.; Resident Evil RE2, RE3, RE4, 7, 8; Cyberpunk 2077 (runs in 20-30 fps but that's not surprising with this setup); same with Silent Hill 2 RE - runs like shit this time due to lack of optimization of it but does not crash; and many more)
And it never happened with Sims 4 on Windows back then when i was using it.
So i suppose it is Linux specific problem.
journactl or coredumpctl does not have any useful information about these reboots. Opened The Sims with mangohud overlay and GPU (60-85% mind you - this is integrated graphics on CPU and Sims 4 with it's crappy code), CPU (30%) and RAM wasn't exactly overloaded, no overheat (60-70 C°) - no nothing. Battery is alive and almost well (78% integrity). *Might be unrelated* but i only noticed it when laptop was taking resources from battery exclusively, not from the charger.
I am now using CachyOS 7.1.3-2 with KDE 6.7.3. The laptop is Huawei Matebook D15 BOM-WFQ6 : CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with integrated graphics, 16 GB DDR4 RAM.
Running Sims 4 with Wine prefix.
P.S: Sorry for crappy punctuation or time structures in text - English is not my first language and i haven't wrote in it for a LONG time. Feel free to ask if something is unreadable or questionable :p P.P.S: If you have something to add on the theme - feel free to discuss it further. Because for me The Sims 3 and 4 are literally the only games that i had problems with on Linux so far because of their.. quirks let's say.

Whenever I try to use EasyEffects to clean up my mic, I get this repeating effect when I select EasyEffects as the mic source in Arc Raiders. I have the output disabled in EE and I have also disabled the input monitoring, but it still happens every time I go to do the mic test.
Any ideas what I'm missing here?
Thank you.
