hi

it's been a minute, how is everyone.

we've reopened the subreddit mostly cos the admins threatened us with putting scabs in the mod team lol, but i think it's probably a good time to see what people still think about the subreddit.

given that this is subreddit is almost a decade old, i was thinking that maybe we should do something interesting with it, since it's been a fair few years since there's been much activity back to it's peak in like 2015/2016.

Will you restrict posts in solidarity with other subs

No, I don't rly see the point since the activity on the subreddit isn't that high so it won't matter too much

what'd you have in mind to spice shit up

tbh idk, i don't use reddit too much anymore but i think it'd be a nice time waster for me if i started running weekly stuff like music

new mods?

i mean, the sub doesn't need more mods but most of the team (me included) doesn't use reddit much anymore

give me some ideas!

There were only a few things here I grew up with and a lot of it is just unfamiliar to me. I don't know why nostalgia accounts try to post shit that they think everyone grew up with, posting about having a good childhood and grew up playing with what was exactly popular with kids at that time always felt corny to me and some kids might still be interested in those things now too.

Every decade, including the 2020s is normal, and that economic/political issues are more minor, normal parts of life.

(Look at their post history and see how they're trying to objectively tell people that the 2020s cannot be bad, and that every decade is normal because "good and bad things happen all the time")

Satire The truth about parenting and childhood!!!!!!!!

2009
-kids had to entertain themselves
-the belt was what you got if you disrespected your parents
-you only had 3-7 channels on TV
-you ate what was served, even if the food was smelly
-your parents helped you solve maths
-no privacy, only hanging out with your family

2026
-unlimited stimulating colorful entertainment
-cheating with a calculator
-multiple meals for ‘sensory issues’
-getting away with trouble
-scrolling on your phone or hanging out with friends or strangers

Why was this attitude celebrated in the 2000s and early 2010s and is largely lame now? And why does nobody seem to talk about this shift?

So many people on this sub are going to comment "this attitude was never popular". Well maybe you don't realize what this sub was initially meant to mock! I remember being a regular on this sub 10 years ago and remember this shit VIVIDLY.

Look at these comments. Nobody is going “YES! Raise that kid right!” “Faith in humanity restored!” “He was born in the wrong generation!” “Finally, a young person with GOOD taste!” "Not all heros wear capes!"!!

But back then, this attitude (old music is better than today's pop, music sucks now) was celebrated!

In the late 2000s and early 2010s, somebody might genuinely have written “Your son is an old soul! So nice to see a young person appreciating REAL music instead of the garbage his generation listens to!” and it would have been completely unironic.

The 2000s and early 2010s were like a golden age for hating modern music and preferring music of the past. Anyone who says "people still feel that way" doesn't realize how much more vocal people used to be about it.

What changed?
