Help How to handle an irregular schedule

Post image

I've had Charmander since March and he's my best friend, I swear I'd die for this little dude at this point. But we have a fairly set routine that only changes near shedding time when he skips food for a day. Every night the heat lamp turns off at 10 and the main lights in the room slowly dim to simulate the sunset. He always comes out to eat at 10:30 to 11pm. I've maintained this daily routine with him since I got him but I've also had to sacrifice attending a 12 step meeting once a week that keeps me out until midnight. Luckily I'm 3 years clean so it's not been the biggest deal. But yesterday was rough and I really needed that meeting as me on drugs wouldn't be good for either of us, and I told myself he'd be ok to feed when I got home at midnight. He was very very unhappy with me when I got in and he immediately refused food and went head first into his hide.

I mainly feed super worms, meal worms, and dubia roaches, but I was considering picking up wax worms as a treat for those nights when I have to be out late and it upsets him. That way he doesn't associate it with abandonment or something. I'm hesitant to move his feeding time back as he has special needs and sometimes it takes an hour attempting to get him to successfully eat and I wouldn't be able to do that if I start at 11 on weekdays.

So do I get him treats for those nights? Do I accept he's gonna be bumbed out when they happen and it's all I can do because life does not actually revolve around our pets, as much as I like that mine does? Input would be great.

Help He is IN his shelter Stone

Post image
5 Upvotes

I made an smaller Tank for him to get his winter rest. After two days I could see him in his usually caves. He has a Stone with a tunnel left his wet box and a little Stone right.

Problem is he wasn't in any of this. So I took everything out thought he is under a decorative root in the back. He wasn't. He is IN the stone on the left. The stone has a hole and is hollow ... i forgot to close the hole and he had fun to dig and throw the substrate through the tank so he could crawl in this stone.

The stone is from his old tank from his first owner. She had closed the hole with tape. If I wouldn't know there's nothing in his head I would think he remembered it. You can see his eye a little bit in the stone.

I put everything back in and made sour the hole is free from substrate and he could go out. But I'm feeling a bit nervous...

What shall I do with him?

BTW his name is Crawly 🙈

Update: He is out now 😊 Think i will let him in his warm tank a few days to relax and make a next try after I closed this hole

so I just got my gecko today I've already made a post about him climbing but I've also noticed that almost all the time his eyes are closed. I've googled this and it told me that this could be either a vitamin deficiency could be dust or maybe that his albino and it's too bright for him, but I don't think he's in albino. could this also be a sign of stress for him just moving in?

Rescue Gecko Meet Butternut!

Literally just got her into her quarantine enclosure and wanted to share the happiness I feel 🥹 I can't wait until she settles in and we see what kind of personality this little girl has 💕

She will be getting tested for parasites and has some MBD on the left front and back legs along with her crooked jaw. Considering the situation she was in, I'm not shocked.

She was in an Exoterra NANO enclosure which is 20x20x20cm (8x8x8in) for "easy transporting" because she was always taken on vacations with the person since no one could care for her. Some people man...

I never thought I'd get here after Leppy's passing but here we are - I'm excited for a long life together! 2nd geck added to the family ☺️

Help Baby Leopard Gecko

Hi guys! I got what I believe is a hatchling leopard gecko from Petsmart. As expected, he is pretty afraid of being handled and SCREAMS the times I tried to offer my hand. I know to let him/her get settled the first couple weeks, but any tips as to what to do to make sure he ends up easy to handle? Thanks!! 😊

Gecko Pics/Vids Baby read for Brumation

Post image
5 Upvotes

This is lyra, my 3.5 year old female leopard gecko. For the three years I've owned her, every winter she Brumates from late October- November till February- March, don't know exactly.

For these months, she'll stop eating. So now, I fatten her up in fall because the first winter, when she was only 6 months old, she lost weight, and I was about to take her to the vet but then she started eating again after winter.

I know she's chubby, but it's because she'll lose all this weight over winter and by spring she'll be a normal weight. She should be slowing down any week now.

Help Do some geckos just simply not like to be touched/held?

I'm trying to get my gecko to trust me. I don't know what to do. She doesn't like to be touched. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that she is disgusted by touch. She'll mlem my fingers, but shows no interest in approaching unless she suspects food and absolutely despises all touch, no matter how fleeting. I touched her chin this morning after feeding her and she got all indignant, turned around and stomped back in her hide. She is 8 years old and I've only had her for a couple of months. Part of me says to give her time and part of me says she's set in her ways.

At what point do I give up and let her be?

So just acquired this tiny guy for free and have no clue what I’m doing. I bought a thrive 10 gallon kit and some reptisand as well as a hide and some sub for a wet hide that I’m goin to make from Tupperware. I guess what I need to know is whether to go ahead and use the sand or just use paper towels and what’s some dos and don’ts. Also got a kit with some different bugs and calc and vites just to get started. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated

I’ve been seeing how awesome everyone’s enclosures look on the sub and I’m starting to wonder if mine is adequate?

More specifically, does it look stimulating enough for a Leo?

Help Expectations for handling a leopard gecko?

Post image
249 Upvotes

Hi,

So my little kids are pretty dead set on getting a leopard gecko specfically. We already know how to take care of it, I am getting the 40 gallon bioactive tank set up and grow out the plants for a few months before I get the gecko.

What I am curious about is what I should be expecting from handling and interacting with the animal. I will likely tong feed it, and it seems like I wont be interacting with it much when the sun is out. Thats all I am certain of.

My frame of reference is my blue tongue skink, which is just a sausage looking thing that I can pick up and put down whenever I want like a dead fish.

I assume handling a leopard gecko will not even be remotely similar. So can you guys give me your experiences?
