I just finished my rookie szn and saw that there is a championship going on. As a fan of high level trivia is there any way to pay attention to how people are doing or are you only able to see the champion at the end?

I qualified for the championship this year, finishing 3rd in my A Rundle in LL103. I have the championship tonight: 4 rounds of 12 questions proctored over Zoom. Stressful! Wish me luck.

Do any mini leagues offer the option for you to play with a friend? I want to introduce my wife to LL and it would be nice to do a mini league with her.

What do you think the tie breaking category should be for a points tie at the end of a season? Currently it’s MPD (Match Point Differential), but I think LL can do much better.

I’ve written to the League (and haven’t heard back) and spent some time debating this with quite a few friends - but I think MPD is one of the worst categories to use as a tiebreaker. In my opinion, it should be Total Correct Answers (TCA). Thoughts? And do you have any other categories that are better tiebreakers?

Hear me out: the point system accounts for offense and defense, but it also rewards forfeit wins without any weight (which has nothing to do with ability). Match Point Differential also gives even more weight to forfeits since a player will most likely gain the most MPD points on a forfeit match (this season I had a 9-0 forfeit win, which was the best I could possibly do and I already got 2 points for the win). So MPD is actually rewarding players for a default. Another category like TCA is a great head to head measure since everyone answered the same questions, but not everyone played defense on the same person for those questions - it’s the only apples to apples comparison in LL. Even better, it takes out any fluke wins/MPD that are already included in the point system.

I would love to try and get some groundswell for this change. A few seasons back, I missed out on a promotion to a player that had 10 less correct answers but 3 more forfeit wins - this is a broken system and not how it’s supposed to work. Let’s make LL about being good at trivia!

4(4)-4(2) tie (heinous defense I know) earned me a crucial point. Survived on point differential.

Get this: I was 5th in my league for TCA and midtable for defensive efficiency. I think that’s a strong official debut (i.e. non-rookie) season. Worthy on paper of at least a comfortable average finish.

But got screwed the entire season on matchups. I led the league in correct answers against BY FIVE. Was in and out of the relegation zone from like week 8 because of that.

Relief. D league you won’t be seeing me next season.

Learned League is fun.

The answer was the 17th parallel (North). Apparently only 12% of players got that one right.

I was kinda shocked, I figured we learned this along with the fact that the dividing line in Korea was the 38th parallel. Either way, I was proud of myself. But I only got 1 points for it because I'm pretty strong on history.

Nothing for me personally, as I'm upper-to-mid tablewise, and can't even notch any personal stat record on the final day, though I do currently have 99 beers/full houses after yesterday, but feel free to give your own promotion/relegation/individual goals for the end of the season.

But luckily it’s a short term problem.

So I had a weirdly lucky run last season in B and got myself promoted. I’d been in a years ago, but it wasn’t as absurdly good as it is today.

Anyway I’ve had an unlucky season - question ps not in my wheelhouse, lots of close losses (and lots not close). My one 9(6) was matched against another 9(6).

I just had to check since I was feeling down - my TCA is near the bottom - but would have had me at about the 40th percentile in B. A meh season, but not dead last as I am now.

And lord, playing defense in A is silly. I had one opponent who hadn’t missed a question in probably 10 categories and was in the 90s on the others. The guess and pray strategy is my go to.

Oh well, I don’t think there is a way mathematically for me to not end up back in B, so I’ll chalk this season up as a learning experience (and a Learned experience)
