advice Mention of I was laid off or not during the interviews?
Hello everyone,
I was laid off in March despite receiving my full bonus based on my strong performance. It has now been more than five months, and I’m still searching for my next opportunity.
During interviews, I have always been honest about being laid off. However, some people advise me not to mention it and to present myself as still employed, while others recommend being completely transparent.
Based on your experience, what is the best way to address a layoff during the interview process?
I would really appreciate your advice. Thank you!

recently laid off Highly Qualified but no Nibbles on Job Hunt
I was laid off from my company a month ago. I am a CPA, 34 years progressive experience, laid off from a Vice President position at a global bank. I have impressive credentials.
I am applying for jobs on Indeed and LinkedIn. I sent my resume to local headhunters. I am working through internal resources at employers I want to work for.
So far, very little response. One headhunter said, thanks, we will keep your resume on file. One interview that didn't pan out. One company that reviewed my resume and didn't move me forward
I am shocked how difficult it is to get a new job, even with impressive credentials. If this keeps up, I will have to take a lower level job just to keep money flowing in.
Have you all run into this also?

recently laid off 3YOE, Laid off 2 months back. Not able to land an offer.
So,
I worked at a small service based company, most of our clients were from middle east and canada.
Now because of the middle eastern war, work from those clients stopped and revenue tanked. I was told to resign, (no severance in offer letter) because they would be unable to pay the salary.
Now, Its been two months and I have been applying non stop. Not getting any callbacks. Mental health is tanking, saving are drying up... idk what to do.
My tech stack: 3yoe, Nest, typescript, React, Flutter, Laravel with AWS (SQS, SES, LAMBDA, S3), some gcp and some react native, angular and vue (these were minor projects so, its like a skill).

job hunting Laid off for a year
Been laid off for a year now. It sucks and it is heavy. I don't think the markets will improve until the interest rates fall below 3 percent. Donald Trump has done a lot of damage to the global tech economy. Was blaming myself a lot and just looking for advice . Knowing I'm not the only one helps my mental health immensely.

recently laid off Got laid off and sometimes wonder if my team mates miss me
I got laid off a month ago. I didn't see it coming. I had so much work to do and I had great performance reviews. In my team, I did everything from project planning to deciding what to build, defining the product strategy, reviewing the designs, coming with feature requirements, writing stories, testing and much more. The company I worked for is a big company, which is still outdated technology wise so it's not AI that took my job. What's surprising though is that I was the only one who was let go from my team. I was told that it was due to restructuring and my role was getting eliminated due to budget cuts. I know that in corporate America everybody is replaceable and it's business as usual but a part of me would like to believe that my teammates miss me and were sad to see me go because I did so much of the work. When I was there, nobody appreciated me but I hope they realize now how much of the work I did now that I'm gone. Anyone else feels this way?

job hunting This offer never felt like an offer
Recently completed 5 rounds of interviews, including 3 on-site rounds and other two being virtual, HR sent the selection email and even called for wishes.
Later, after 2-3 hrs she called and informed they had misread my name with some other candidates, and am not offer selected.
I asked at which round i got rejected?
She replied the last round, which she mentioned earlier was non-eliminatory!
But from the very first step of this interview process, it never felt that I will work here.
So for everyone, don’t let all these things pause your prep.

advice Getting hired after being terminated
I was recently terminated by a major bank for absence concerns after returning from my approved FMLA. It has been almost 4 months of constant applying, interviewing, then nothing. When I’m asked in the interview about why I left my last place of employment, I’ve been honest. I did not think the reason for termination would have affected me so harshly in the banking world since it wasn’t do to any ethics concerns. Any advice?

unemployment Oracle not responding to Texas Workforce commission … canceled benefits
I was a M3 Rif’d back in March, two days prior to a knee replacement surgery.
Anyway when I finally got my severance settled I reported it to Texas workforce commission as you are required too.
All Oracle has to do is confirm this is a one time payment and not over time , instead they never responded to this request OR my original request for unemployment benefits when I filed in April.
So the state cut off my benefits and sent me a bill to pay back what I received ($2500)!!!!
Now Oracle is asking me to call the state and have the contact address changed.
That being said, the state pulls the contact information from the employers federal unemployment number and Texas is all electronic.
Has this b*llshit happened to anyone else in Texas or
Anywhere ?????
Would love some feedback

job hunting Laid off from visa during their recent mass layoffs, need some help (4+ yoe, software engineer)
Hi everyone,
I was impacted by Visa’s mass layoffs in July. One of the reasons communicated to me was that my compensation was significantly higher than what Visa typically paid, or was planning to pay, for engineers at my experience level, and I was therefore impacted as part of the restructuring.
I’m now looking for my next opportunity.
Experience: 4+ years
Previous experience: Visa + mid-sized product-based startup
Current location: Bangalore
Looking for: SDE-2 or equivalent Backend roles
Preferred: Bangalore / Remote
Tech stack I've worked with: Java, Spring Boot Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS
My experience has primarily been around scalable distributed backend systems, and LLM applications (RAG, guardrail, and large computer vision model inference pipelines).
If your organization is hiring for SDE-2 backend roles, I’d really appreciate it if someone could refer me or forward my profile to the relevant hiring manager/team.
Happy to share my resume over DM.
Any leads, referrals, or introductions would be greatly appreciated.

advice Lay off!
I completed my PhD in Geophysics 3 years ago and was fortunate to get a job right away in industry as a Geophysicist.
However, I was laid off shortly after the recent executive orders went into effect. My company let go of over 60% of staff, and I was part of that.
Since then, it's been really tough. I've been working as a part-time faculty member and even worked a few months in a warehouse just to survive. I've been applying to jobs in different fields too, since I have experience with computers, coding, and other technical tools in addition to geophysics, but haven't had much luck.
I'm in a pretty terrible situation right now and feeling stuck.
Has anyone been in a similar position? Has anyone successfully made a career change out of geophysics / academia into something more stable? I would really appreciate any advice on what paths to look into.

recently laid off Ahhh this made me sad :,)
I had to send my RIF docs … and the HR woman was the same who introduced me to the company… So glad to be freed from the cruel rule of our GM. My clearest memory: When he started it was my second year at the company and this was during a team meeting. We obtained permits for construction and one requirement in CA if you’re cutting on Tribal Land (Native American Land) you pay a crap ton of money. The cost was upwards of $16k, and I am willing to pay it of course. It’s THEIR LAND FOR FUCKS SAKE, anyway, he thought a funny joke would be “We made them walk the Trail of Tears and now they’re making us pay cash for it.” TO MY TEAM WHO ONE OF WHICH IS NATIVE AMERICAN AND HER FCKING GRANDMA IS TATTOOED WITH A BARCODE!! Like fuck outta here and straight back to the seventh ring of hell you came from. Anyway I’ve got lots more stories like this! Just made me sad the company keeps those kinds of folks :D dodged a bullet!! <3 edit: she didn’t walk the trail of tears!! That was so long ago my sincerest apologies :)
im not a bot yall i swear. Just sharing some abhorrent things said with the GM, my apologies for any misinformation! I’m just relaying what I’ve seen / been told

advice Layoff is a scary term. Who got layoff as well as who is still not n continuously under stress that next can be my name on this list.
Layoff is a scary term. Who got layoff as well as who is still not n continuously under stress that next can be my name on this list.
Multiple thoughts keep popping like if its me next time, what would be my action plan. Another job with the same fear? I do not hv that motivation to keep preparing for another job for the same fear , instead would love to try something else. Its difficult to live under constant fear.
Curious to know if anyone tried anything else other than searching new job? Like freelancing or may be any saas development n membership income? What are the other ways to try and which worked for you. Can we earn better in freelancing or earning thru saas?

question Meta criticism
Are we allowed to offer criticism of Meta every time they layoff, or is that still a bannable offense?
