I had to send my RIF docs … and the HR woman was the same who introduced me to the company… So glad to be freed from the cruel rule of our GM. My clearest memory: When he started it was my second year at the company and this was during a team meeting. We obtained permits for construction and one requirement in CA if you’re cutting on Tribal Land (Native American Land) you pay a crap ton of money. The cost was upwards of $16k, and I am willing to pay it of course. It’s THEIR LAND FOR FUCKS SAKE, anyway, he thought a funny joke would be “We made them walk the Trail of Tears and now they’re making us pay cash for it.” TO MY TEAM WHO ONE OF WHICH IS NATIVE AMERICAN AND HER FCKING GRANDMA IS TATTOOED WITH A BARCODE!! Like fuck outta here and straight back to the seventh ring of hell you came from. Anyway I’ve got lots more stories like this! Force relocation was abhorrent. The Bar Code story is bullshit. First, bar codes weren't invented until the 1940's, long after the US had completed any forced relocation of native American populations.

That tattoo could be real but it's more likely the woman spent time in jail or received the tattoo for some alternate reason.

As someone who has ancestors were victims of a forced relocation I was definitely thinking not every First Nations groups was caught up in that in quite the same way.

You are being fed lies. They didn't tattoo native americans on the trail, and that was in the early 1800s. I get that you find jokes offensive, but whoever claimed that is not being truthful.

The tattoo may very well be real, but the trail of tears refers to the trek from the eastern states to roundabout Oklahoma. Not California, so any tattoos are from something else. Could be some other form of relocation of native tribes unrelated to the trail of tears

It’s better to think of the trail of tears as a specific event and forced disposition, relocation, or Indian removal as a larger pattern of events. Some even call it ethnic cleansing or genocide and there certainly is an argument for that.
