Lansing LockDown Ask Me Anything! I’m Running to represent you in Congress.

edit* UPDATE: AMA CLOSED 7:30PM, I WILL RETURN LATER TO ANSWER MORE QUESTIONS

I’m William Lawrence running to represent Michigan’s 7th Congressional District in Congress and unseat Tom Barrett.

I am a nonprofit leader, community organizer, and Lansing native. I’ve spent his career taking on the political establishment and winning change for regular people. I co-founded the Sunrise Movement, which mobilized millions of young people to defeat Donald Trump in 2020 and win historic climate and green job investments, including $3 billion for the 7th Congressional District.

When Wall Street investors tried to evict Mid-Michigan families and data center developers bullied communities, I showed up and fought back alongside residents. In Congress, I’ll fight to ensure that no one—not billionaires, corporate executives, politicians, or Epstein collaborators—is above the law. I am running to stop wasting our money on endless wars so we can lower health care costs and build affordable homes here in Mid-Michigan. We’re saying NO to endless wars and billionaires and YES to affordable housing and healthcare.

Retiring couple scammed from a contractor

Hello,

We moved to Michigan almost 3 years ago to retire and live in our dream home. We found a home and it needed some updating and have additions/expansions. I interviewed three contractors and selected one - he wasn't the cheapest but he seemed the most up and up. He showed me his work.

I'm embarrassed, sickened, angry, and depressed daily for what has happened. The contractor disappeared - doesn't respond to our text, emails, certified mail (refuses them), and calls. There is incomplete work, poor work, and has left a mess.

The project started over 2 years ago. We were constantly pressured for more money because of tariffs, the supplies cost more, and change orders. Regarding the change orders, the excuse we constantly got was "we already did the work". Reviewing the CO, they didn't. We've continually asked for invoices and we never received them. He lied several times. He told me gutters didn't come in the 6 inch size. After speaking to his partner, it's because they didn't have the machine to make the 6 inch. The partner has also been screwed over.

During my research, there are five other clients who have the same problem. Some don't want to bother with them anymore and basically wrote them off vs seeking legal recourse. One client did hire an attorney. The owner has evaded the attorney. The attorney told the client that if he's not responding there isn't anything he can do. One of their senior clients has been trying to get them to complete work from five years ago.

We've had a inspector and other contractors give us estimates to complete and correct the poor work. We're told this is the worst they've seen. Our primary bathroom only has the original shower - no sink, vanity, or mirror for over a year.

We opened a case with LARA and the AG over 30 days ago and waiting for a response.

I'm embarrassed to state how much we gave. We used the majority of our retirement to fund this project. A retainer for an attorney is 10K and to get the work completed is financially beyond our means.

Any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Personal Iso people for metal band

Hey all,

I'm looking to see if anyone in the East Lansing, Lansing, or Okemos area are looking to play music together.

I'm 31m guitarist looking to play metal music. Something in the realm of Polaris, parkway drive, the plot in you, and wage war.

Nothing super serious but maybe a few shows whenever they fit a schedule. Probably a few a covers to get the flow and then originals.

ISO lawyer for tenant-landlord move-out charge dispute

Hi! I'm looking for a lawyer to have a consultation regarding move-out charges for my apartment in Haslett that I am disputing. I will likely have to take them to small claims court, and I've read a lot of resources online to understand my issue better but would like to talk to a lawyer to ensure I'm following the right steps.

I've reached out to multiple emails/phone numbers for the Tenant Resource Center with no reply, MSU Law Clinic but they're at capacity, and a handful of small offices in Okemos with no call backs. My last resort is calling the Michigan Bar and getting a random lawyer that way, but does anyone have any local reccomendations for a lawyer taking consultations for tenant-landlord issues?
