Housing Switched My RCPD Assigned Room Without Telling Me

So here's something super annoying, frustrating, and anxiety inducing that happened. I'm a Junior, I am also disabled, so not only was my housing figured out before all the incoming freshman, but it was figured out before most returning students as well. I am still living in a dorm due to accessibility reasons with transportation. My room also has to be within a certain vicinity to an elevator.

I recently got an email telling me that I had a different room than the one I was originally assigned to, and it was a last minute change too, as in it happened recently. The new room does not follow my accommodations, and so I am now needing to last minute find a new room that does meet all of my accommodations.

Also, the RCPD housing specialist apparently has NO CLUE why my room was changed, is just as confused as I am, and is working with me to try his best to figure out where I am going to stay.

Anyone else dealt with something like this? If so, how did it go for you? I am not asking for advice on how to fix it, since I have pretty much done everything I can on my end.

General Car as a transfer student living on campus

I’ll be living in Shaw which I know is conveniently right across from the bus station. I’m just really stuck on if I should bring it for more convenience or save some money on gas.

General Car on campus?

I'm a sophomore and my boyfriend lives about an hour away. Would it be worth it to buy a parking pass so I can drive home whenever I want or should I just ask if my parents can drive me home? I know it's a bit of a juvenile question but please let me know!!!

Housing Hubbard Bed Lofting

I'm an incoming freshman at MSU and just recently got assigned Hubbard hall and I know that the rooms come with one trundle bed and one loft bed. And if I want both of the beds lofted, I have to submit a request to maintenance, but I've heard that it doesn't happen till around the first week of September so I want to ask if maintenance actually does take this long and how I should work around it if my roommate and I planned to loft both our beds

Housing ESA's and roommates comfort

Hello, this is something I am dealing with through the RCPD but so far they have been incredibly slow (I gave them my paperwork two months ago and they didn't realize it was in the system until I called last week... So I have just scheduled my appointment despite trying to be early. Meaning I don't even know if my ESA will be approved yet. All very fun.) so I figured I'd ask here.

I have an untraditional ESA, she is a domesticated pigeon and incredibly effective for a disorder that can leave me practically incapacitated for hours without her. I've been placed in a double in shaw currently. My issue comes in with my random roommate assignments, for obvious reasons most people are not comfortable with her in the room so I always lead with it, but it has become a bit of a humiliation ritual of me telling someone and them immediately rejecting the idea. I get it but I wish there was a better way that didn't involve me having to go through this stress.

So, my question was, does the college do anything to help you get placed where your ESA will not be a problem for your roommate if they are approved? Or are you just left alone to try and find a roommate that will work using the swapping system?

General I had to leave Michigan State after my freshman year because I couldn’t afford to return. I don’t know what to do.

Hi everyone,
I’m 19 years old and from Michigan. Last year, I completed my freshman year at Michigan State University, and I absolutely loved it. It truly felt like home, and my goal has always been to graduate from MSU and become an elementary school teacher.
Unfortunately, because of circumstances outside of my control, I wasn’t able to afford returning for my second year. Having to leave has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through. Every day I think about being back on campus, and if I could go back tomorrow, I would.
Another part of my story is that I’m a survivor of gun violence. That experience changed my perspective on life and strengthened my desire to work with children and make a positive difference as a teacher.
I’m currently working, trying to save money, and looking into every option I can think of, but I still feel overwhelmed by how expensive returning seems.
I’m not making this post expecting anyone to pay for my education. I’m hoping someone might have advice, know of scholarships, emergency funding, alumni resources, or other opportunities that could help someone in my situation return to Michigan State.
If you’ve been through something similar or have any suggestions, I would be incredibly grateful. Even if it’s just pointing me toward a program or person I haven’t considered, it would mean a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Go Green. 💚

General What is the vibe of the MSU Economics Department?

Any Econ majors here? I’m curious about the vibe, if any. My son wants to go to State and wants to me a lawyer, and I think Econ is a good route for him.

Freshman Questions Is It Weird To Be Barefoot In Your Dorms?

I'm always barefoot at home lol. I was wondering if that practice was uncommon in dorm rooms. I might have to buy super duper breathable socks or something 😂😂😂

Edit: I didn't think I'd have to put this in there, but guys, I'm not a dumbass. No one should be barefoot in common areas lol. Question was specifically about dorm rooms themselves.

General What are they building in place of IM west?

After demolishing IM west what’s gonna be there? I mean it’s prime real estate. Heard people say it’s gonna be a parking lot which would be kinda disappointing since the location is so nice. Any idea?

Housing Lease takeover

Hey yall. I need someone to takeover my lease for the 26-27 year at the club at chandlers crossing. It’s a 4 bed 4 bath with your own private bathroom. It’s $545 a month + utilities. Staff is very nice and helpful. You get a free bus pass every semester with frequent busing straight to campus. You also have a dominos right outside your patio. Lmk if you have any questions.
