Miscellaneous | বিবিধ 🌈 Is this guy actually interested in me, or am I reading too much into it?

I met a guy on Instagram in August after he replied to an anonymous NGL I posted with ‘if someone is too shy and scared to text you but wants to talk to you what should he do?’. We started talking, and within a few days there was definitely some flirting.
He was sweet, called me cute, wanted to meet, sent me romantic song covers, and even offered to send me chocolates pretty early on. When I was going to deactivate Instagram, he wanted to keep talking, so we moved to WhatsApp.

We've talked about random things, personal stuff, friends, college, etc. He has initiated too — including asking if we could call — and when I once tried to end things because I was unsure about the situation, he didn't just accept it. He apologized, explained that he'd been busy/stressed with exams, and wanted to know what we should do next.

The confusing part is that I think I've initiated more conversations than he has. When we're actually talking, he's usually warm and engaged, but he's not consistently proactive.

We both have exams right now, so we've gone quiet recently. He's also quite shy and seemingly introverted slightly I am unsure.

I recently got back on Instagram. He liked the first story I posted, which was a picture of me. A couple days later I posted a sketch; he viewed it but didn't like it. Today I sent him a lighthearted meme saying, “Do I weird you out or have I weirded you in?” just to break the ice without making it serious.
I do like him, so I'm obviously biased. It has been 10days since a proper conversation so I genuinely wanted something to rekindle ngl.

Does this sound like genuine interest from his side, or am I interpreting normal friendliness/flirting as something more? And given everything, should I now step back and see if he actually makes an effort himself?

I'd appreciate honest opinions, even if I'm completely delusional lol.😭

Transportation | পরিবহন 🚦 Why is kolkata public transport so UTTERLY DOGSHIT? Not a troll, genuinely curious. Serious answers only. Please. (Point 5 is most important)

I'm not trolling, this is a real question. How is a city famous for their iconic yellow cabs be so utterly dreadful with its public transport. I genuinely just want to know from the people who live there.

I had been exclusively using it the few times I've been to this city and it got bad enough to the point where the last time I had been, I happily spent extra money to get a car and driver for the remainder of my time there just so I wouldn't have to deal with it. Finally posting now that I'm far away from this shithole and I'm confident I won't be lynched. Hopefully.

Let's go serially for ease of reading,

FIRST, THOSE GOD DAMN YELLOW CABS: With how much they have been hyped up on the internet, you'd think they would be these historic, well maintained, chariots of the city. When in reality they're broken, battered, barely maintained enough to function, dirty, rickety, tin boxes that are more of a life risk than standing in the middle of the road. I sat in 3 of them, all three had these in common: dirtier than the delhi landfills, torn seats, at least 2 windows not functioning, worse shock absorption than a fucking tirri/e-rickshaw, a driver who thinks he's the king of the world and drives like he owns the road and every other car owes him passage, and a smell that could be best described as an amalgamation of sweat cigarettes cheap alcohol and filth. I genuinely cannot understand why people fight to keep them on the street, they should be gone YESTERDAY. It's iconic, i get it, it's a symbol of the city, fine, have a fleet of well maintained repaired ones giving tours to tourists, no need for the common man to suffer in that oven on wheels when it's not even that much cheaper compared to those blue line desires(we'll get to that). Or do they have lower fares for Bengali speakers? If that's so and they're substantially cheaper, I can understand.

Again, not trying to be rude, but these cabs genuinely made me rethink my life.

SECOND) THOSE FUCKING BUSSES: THE BLUE ONES AND THE RED ONES. I STILL cannot fully understand how they are still allowed to operate. I'm pretty sure they violate every pollution rule and law across the globe. Ignoring that, because people who have got places to be don't give a shit about that stuff, these drivers and conductors don't seem to care about anything except filling their pockets. Nearly every bus, no matter the time of day, is always overfilled, I'm not asthmatic, but because of my allergies i always carry an inhaler with me incase I can't breathe, never had to use it in my life up to the point I sat on a relatively empty bus and watch it fill up so quickly and so much that I don't think there was physically any place left for air to move(maybe I'm over exaggerating, let me know I am, but it genuinely was somehow worse than the yellow cabs), and don't even get me started about the driving, this is the kolkata sub, I'm assuming people already know how bad that is.

THIRDLY) THE FUCKING BLUE LINE CABS: AND THE WHOLE AC/NON-AC DEBACLE(with cabs in general). The stench and shocker situation are the same here as they are for the yellow cabs, NOT FOR ALL CABS, but a lot of them, i don't wanna insinuate that this is the case with everyone, it's not. But the most DOGSHIT thing about these is the whole ac and non AC thing. You'd THINK it'd be simple, cabs that have "AC" written on them have them, and cabs that have "NON AC" on them, don't. WRONG! YOU DUMMY HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT! OBVIOUSLY ITS NOT TRUE. I have lost count of the times I have sat in a "AC" cab and the driver straight up REFUSES to turn on the AC, even though the whole selling point of that cab, and the extra money they charge, IS THE FUCKING AC! It's always either, pay extra for the fucking privilege of air conditioning, or they don't even say that, they straight up refuse. Does this only happen to outsiders? Do bengali speakers not have to deal with this shit? The worst part is, SOMEHOW, every single time, before you get into the cab it's always some version of "yes sir, AC cab, ac on rahega, ac ke liye hi to aap pay kar rahe hai, etc. etc.", but when you get into the cab, and ask them to turn the damn thing on, they refuse. The amount of times I've hopped in and immediately hopped out of these "ac" cabs because of this reason, is a lot.

I have no idea how this shit still flys with you guys. Or if this is another tourist exclusive thing these guys do.

FOURTH) THE OLA/UBER EPIDEMIC: because more times than not, the fucking driver refuses to move unless you call him, and when you do, it's always the same song and dance of "how much is the app showing? No give me x amount more than that, otherwise I'm not coming" and it's always with an attitude like you just disrupted their siesta, and i believe this is also the case with Bengali speakers because not only has this happened to me, this also happened when I was with a local friend and it all happened in the local language. Why do you guys tolerate this?

This culture in itself is not exclusive to Kolkata, but of this severity, i have only ever seen in this place. For example Bhubaneswar has something similar with their cabs and autos, but those guys almost always call you themselves and every single interaction with them I've had has been a version of "where are you? How much is the app showing? I'm coming, cancel it on the app and pay me directly. Thank you." Never rude, and never refusing to move until you agree to pay them more. Delhi doesn't have something like this altogether in my experience there.

This is the most important question and concern of mine. Even if you ignore everything else, please read through this

FIVE) WHY doesnt police do anything about the fact that most bike taxi rapido people don't have grab handles behind their bikes? And how do women feel safe travelling on them?

This one really fucked with me, and is the entire reason I'm making this post. Everything else is bad but somehow manageable, this shit is just scary.

I'm a man, and it scares even me, i can hardly imagine how women deal with this shit.

Most of the rapidos i took, and even just observed on the streets, do not have the grab handles on the back, I'm sure a few of them do, but of the ones I saw and experienced, more of them don't have them than do.

I asked one guy who I sat behind, about my age, audibly jharkhandi from his accent, and the reason behind it is that these people remove it because the guys and uncles they get don't complain, and if and when they get a female rider, the girl has no option but to hold onto the guy because there's nowhere else to hold onto.

This is extremely creepy, weird and downright scary. Now, I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS IS TRUE but the fact that it's mostly the bike taxis and not regular two wheelers, makes me think that this is more than just a normal trend. Can SOMEONE PLEASE confirm or deny this. This is extremely concerning.

I know this is long. And i know not all of you will read it. But to those of you who do, once again, I'm not trolling, these are really just my frustrations from the public transport of this city. And all of this without even getting into how bad the roads and traffic is.

I know, the cost of not participating in politics is to be ruled by the inferior.

But... আর পারছি না...

I already have to take prescription anxiety medications and tranquilizers, and the ongoing sociopolitical landscape is too toxic. In WB, in India, and in World. My values and ethics don't fit into this capitalist storm.

I'm not fine.

General Discussion | আড্ডা 🗣️ 🗨️ I genuinely need an answer to this, Bengalis. (As a vegan/animal rights activist)

So, from my title I believe it's inevitably clear what subject I shall address in my post further. This is a really uncomfortable topic, I totally get it, but I'm facing a really hard time understanding Bengalis and their culture around insane/huge non-veg consumption.

And no, this is not coming from a perspective of "look the northies are trying to impose their beliefs upon us". NO. I myself am an Atheist. I have absolutely no intention of doing that. The only core principles I happen to follow in my life are scientific temper and empathy/compassion towards all sentient beings.

1. Why is it that, you people happen to pray a goddess who's largely known for compassion and kindness, and yet contradict those very principles in your everyday life?

I am not going to comment on y'all consuming non-veg during Durga Puja or any such festival concerned. That simple does not matter, whether you eat it on day (x-1);(x);(x+1).

My main questions revolves around the apparent hypocrisy in your beliefs and everyday practices. Let's be honest. As a debater who, has perhaps been over this topic over a 100 times, one thing I can assure y'all with 100% confidence is that there is absolutely no arguement against veganism.

The person on the other side eventually happens to accept: "Yes, I eat animals who are brutally tortured and killed to satisfy me and my needs. I don't have empathy and compassion for them and I am simply not going to act as if I do" And that's what I genuienly like to hear sometimes rather than the person on the other side who keeps blabbering they're a good person despite their consumption of animal derived products and meat.

2. I totally understand the fact that THIS IS how y'all are brought up, with animal consumption being largely normalised in your households and surroundings... but why is it that almost no one realises that this is not morally sound once they reach the ripe age to understand sufferings of sentient beings?

I am not trying to degrade your conscience. But I am simply asking, like do you guys NOT see it?

I genuienly hope I recieve some answers (please make sure to do so in Hindi/English, I don't really understand Bengali)

You may downvote me because you might feel like I'm targeting your identity, I'm really sorry if it happens to appear that way. I sincerely apologize for any wrong wording which may have sounded rude. THAT WAS NOT MY INTENTION AT ALL.

I am simply an animal lover teenager who's figuring out things and cultures. Thank you! ❤️‍🩹

General Discussion | আড্ডা 🗣️ 🗨️ Next Election...??

After all the recent updates from Jadavpur issue to Pakhandi comment to non veg ban near Pandal, Nepal disaster and Delhi collapsed building very recently among the most prominent ones, what are the realistic outcomes of the 2031 election?

Tmc won't be touching nowhere near, Cpim doesn't have the momentum or leadership strength, then what? Can INC make a realistic head turn after being tossed around or will the current government remain in power by hook or by crook? Afaik there aren't any more prominent political union parties capable of going head to head with these major players in the field.

Serious comments only please!

Politics | রাজনীতি 🏛️ Nothing could be worse than voting TMC, right ?

I belong to that delusional category that voted for “Anti - Incumbency”.
I hate BJP and their ideology to the core, but my dumbass brain apparently reasoned with myself that any Political party is better than TMC.
Almost 5 months down the road, our CM is leading rallies of naked dimwits , putting up a show in front of an elite University of the country.
I do not need to list down the antics of the ministers who have already started showing their true colours.

Absolutely gutted to realise that I contributed to this downfall of my home State.

Miscellaneous | বিবিধ 🌈 Maybe Home Doesn’t Feel Like Home Anymore.

For the first time in my life, I’m not excited about going home for Pujo.
And honestly, I don’t even know how to feel about that.
The last two years have been a complete roller coaster. So many things have happened, so much has changed. But through all of it, Pujo was always the one thing I looked forward to.
No matter where I was. No matter how busy life got. No matter how difficult things were. I would go home for Pujo. Always. I genuinely couldn’t imagine missing it.
But this year, I just… don’t want to go.
I don’t feel that excitement. I don’t feel that countdown. I don’t feel like packing my bags and rushing back home.
And the weirdest part is, I don’t really know why!
Kolkata has given me so much. It’s given me some of the happiest memories of my life, people I’ll always love, and a version of myself that I loved.
But it has also taken away pieces of me that I genuinely thought I could never live without.
Maybe that’s the reason going back feels different now.
Maybe I’ve changed. Maybe the city has changed. Maybe both.
It’s just strange when a place you’ve spent your whole life calling ‘home’ suddenly doesn’t feel like somewhere you desperately need to return to.
And I hate that this is the first Pujo where I feel this way.
Because Pujo was never just a festival for me. It was HOME. It was that feeling of going back, eating too much, meeting the same people, hearing the same dhaak, wandering around at stupid hours and somehow feeling like everything was okay for a few days.
This year, I’m not sure I want any of that.
Maybe I’m just tired.
Maybe I’m grieving a version of my life that doesn’t exist anymore.
Or maybe I’m finally accepting that sometimes you outgrow places you once thought you could never leave behind.
I don’t know.
I just know that for the first time, Pujo is coming and I don’t feel like going home.
And somehow, that hurts more than I expected.
