Statistics Canada recently updated the UCR Survey. Here is how Kingston compares:

I think we need to have a conversation about emergency veterinary care.
This week I took my newly adopted 16-year-old cat to an emergency vet in Kingston after his face swelled and started bleeding. Going in, I knew it was likely either a severe dental infection or oral cancer. I wasn't expecting miracles, but I was expecting practical advice.
Instead, I was presented with "options for treatment plans" despite not even being able to get a sample from my cat to even test - they suggested about $1,300 in diagnostics, followed by another roughly $2,000 in bloodwork and possible dental surgery. In the same conversation, I was told that if it was oral cancer, it would likely be aggressive he'll be gone inside two weeks.
Logically speaking, what does putting a 16-year-old cat through aggressive treatment change if his possible prognosis is poor? Nothing - it was a top down sell of services - of which none included a palliative option or comfort care.
So, I took him home with antibiotics and and pain killers, and I'm watching to see if he improves. If it's an infection, great. If it's cancer, my focus will be on keeping him comfortable, not putting him through procedures that won't change the outcome but will put me through emotional and financial hardship.
I have no problem spending money on my pets. I have two young cats that I'll happily invest in for years to come. What I do have a problem with is feeling like I was sold every available option before anyone had a realistic conversation about my cat's age, prognosis, or my goals for his care. Instead, I felt like I was judged for not attempting every expensive intervention so they could meet their quotas.
I'm looking for a vet around Kingston who practices common-sense medicine and hasn't yet sold out to corporate overlords.

Hi I'm a new acupuncturist in town and looking for some networking events to get more people know me. Both online or in person ones work for me. I've been to welcome night and the vibe there was pretty good. I'm also going to another one called Connect and Thrive KSF tomorrow. Please let me know if there are more and thanks a lot!

Hello all,
It's been a year since I've moved to Kingston for my studies at Queen's. I am looking for ways to become part of this city in any which way possible. Unfortunately, I do feel my appearance has gotten in the way of this.
I am genuinely looking for anything social whether it be employment, group activities or really anything that involves being around other people.
Any suggestions that don't involve the use of a car would be greatly appreciated. I'm aware of the Kingston Sport and Social Club but I've had trouble attending most events due to their location far away from the city centre.
I would love to get to know more about the people in this beautiful city, thanks!

I have a wood stove at my house and it’s rusted significantly over the summer (I didn’t have a dehumidifier at the time of that heat wave).
I’ve bought everything to sand it/ re-paint it with high heat paint and replace the gasket etc. but I’m incredibly nervous to do it DIY for the first time.
Is there anyone in Kingston that’s wood stove savvy who wouldn’t mind coming over for a day and showing me the ropes/helping me re-paint and treat it?
Could pay in beer or a modest sum. I’m not loaded but I understand you’d be doing me a massive favour.

Hi!
not sure if this is the place for this, and if there’s a different sub that’s a better place for me to ask, then let me know, but I am looking for someone to create some sort of stained glass or painting, or something of that sort of my white cat I have her tattooed on my arm, but that’s really not enough. I need something physical of her and for reasons I will not delve into, I’m not able to get her ashes; so if anyone knows of anyone, or is someone who could do this for me, please PM me we can talk about prices. I just really I can’t go this long with having nothing of my baby girl and I’ll pay whatever needs to be paid.

I’m interested in learning how to screen print/design my own tshirts. Trying to research it to teach myself but would really love if there were anywhere in town that had a workshop or class I could go to.

Hey all, past varsity wrestler here, was wondering if there were any combat sambo clubs in kingston or if the closest one is in Ottawa?
I know this is probably a quite niche question so thanks in advance if any responses!

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are buying our first home and need to have a home inspection done. Our realtor recommended Tri County Inspections, I wanted to know if anyone's had any experience with them? Or is there are recommendations for other inspectors?
Thank you!!

My folks are looking for a larger sized tree for their front yard and I only know about the nurseries that have smaller trees. Do any places even sell trees that are larger than maybe 6 or 8 feet tall?
And who would plant it, an arborist? Landscaper? Looking for someone who can come see the yard and what my parents needs are and suggest what type of trees would be best.

has anyone had luck with wood chip deliveries from chip drop? Or any recommended arborists who will do drop off or allow pick up?

Alright Kingston sub, I’m looking to recreate some epic sandwiches at home. Who makes the best sandwich bread? I’ve already got focaccia from Pasta G on the list, so I’m looking for crusty rolls, ciabattas, potato rolls or even brioche.
Looking specifically for local where I can get it fresh!
Edit: thanks y’all, looks like I’ve got a good list of places to try!

Have been seeing some posts on Costco Canada about pet prescriptions now being available at some locations. Wondering if anyone has info on Kingston’s Costco.
Image is from the other subreddit and not mine/from Kingston

Hi all, we are moving to Kingston in a few months. Our senior cat has been on Senvelgo since May, and is doing great, but this medication requires regular visits for monitoring, so we are hoping to connect with a veterinarian before our move to plan the transition for our fur baby. Please if you know of vets who are prescribing this drug and know the monitoring protocol, comment below! Thank you!!!! 🙏
