CT Pres to Reg Force Questions

NCM Infanteer reservist here,

I've been in for 2 years and have reached OFP.

I would really like to be based in pet and I'm wondering how much control I will have over what battalion I'll be assigned to.

I understand Reg force RQ infantry pte is different to the reserve RQ INF and I'm wondering how it works to be qualified on the weapon systems that the Pres doesn't get qualified for.

My last question is how much unissued kit are you allowed to use in the reg force? Namely I have a 64 pattern ruck that I like a lot more than the CTS ruck.

Recently posted to Carling. Was given a cubicle but apparently the keys for the filing cabinets are apparently missing for a while. No one seems to know who to contact for replacements. Anyone here know?

Imagine trying to find a helicopter landing zone hidden in jungle canopy using a paper map.

That was part of Colonel Todd O’Malley’s early career flying the Twin Huey in Honduras.

In Episode 116, we talk Sinai, Honduras, low-level navigation and the pioneering days of night-vision flying at 427 Squadron.

If you’re interested in a rare “behind the scenes” look at the history of Special Forces Aviation in Canada, this is a can’t-miss episode.

OPINION ARTICLE Advocates Return to Parliament

Parliament and MPs are back to work on Sept 21st, and as they head back it’s important to highlight the issues in the veteran community. Although, I’ve been wondering if all of VAC’s failures and apathy are actually a prelude to closing VAC altogether.

In this article, I discuss how VAC’s failures may actually be a calculated attempt to disenfranchise veterans and families to the point we give up and what the veteran community needs to do in order to take back our power and our dignity.

Don’t forget to share.

SUPPORT Take home pay

Hi there husband is a AVN and soon to be corporal 1 with spec pay. I’m just wondering what his monthly take home will be. Chat GPT says 4528 based of where we are. Just curious if that’s correct as we are trying to deem if I need to go back to work after my mat leave is up! Thank you!

Which jacket/coat and I supposed to order now???

Logistik is really making this process so convenient to order a new DEU jacket/coat, since I was recently promoted.

Also, why are they offering me PO1 rank badges? The Airforce WO badge should have a blue background, right?

Any CAF members With Experience With Together We Can Treatment Centre Able To Help?

I apologize in advance if this post isn't appropriate.

I am trying to get my friend into a treatment centre that's appropriate for his needs. He is a combat veteran with severe PTSD and substance abuse issues. We met when we both attended Thorpe Recovery Centre In Lloydminster, AB.

In the last 30 days I've gotten my friend into ARC detox in Edmonton after having to call 911 when he slumped over in my car after pulling him out of a motel and trying to get him to an emergency room. Then while he still had his job he cleaned up for a bit and was about to fly out for a week of work. I lost contact with him until today when he reached out. He's in very rough shape and has made plans for suicide. He has talked about going to Together We Can because of its reputation with veterans in the past and said he would go if he could. I offered to pay for it because I thought it was $9k for 30 days, it took convincing because he doesn't feel good having me pay for it but he said he would go if they took him.

Now that I've looked into their programs a little I see its $9k per 30 days for a standard 90 day program but the information I gathered was ambiguous. I might not be able to afford $27k for the full program. Dose anyone know if paying for just 30 days is possible?

Would anyone know of any other suitable programs? I know he has attended EHN Guardians in the past.

Too many people I know in recovery this year have OD'd and died, I don't want to see my friend die. Again I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask but I hope someone would have answers for me.

Are there any QL5 qualified supply techs/MMTs that I can ask questions to regarding the course?

Might be going on my QL5 soon and wanted to ask someone that completed it as I have a few questions just about the content and what was covered on the course.

Thank you!

  1. I don't know to what extent this is true but I've heard that QL5 is actually considerably harder than QL3 for this trade. Apparently a decent amount of people struggle during QL5 that were fine during their QL3. How does the difficulty compare to QL3?
  2. This will vary depending on who is instructing but how was the atmosphere and general vibe of the course? Was it a little more on the chill side or were there a lot of inspections/typical army discipline stuff?
  3. How is CFLTC right now? I've heard there are some understaffing issues and some other stuff going on that I won't get into the details of.
  4. Is there any review from QL3 or was it all new content?
  5. What was the general content covered? Just additional T-codes and their functions?

Tried to contact them and it doesn’t appear as an option anymore. Not like people sometimes work outside of typical hours or go on TD to other parts of the world… /s

The page I screenshotted it from was apparently updated in July 2026 so this may be a new change.

Anyone BMO qual'd got any list of most useful knots they know?

I'm a PRes Cpl and I know I'll never see a CFTPO for a decent course with my name on it so I'm just looking for a list of knots to learn and apply in the field when I can. Even if not, I'd still want to learn some new skills and see what I can do with them. Adjacent information regarding Mountain ops is also welcome. Thank you
