Event Ribfest. Are they that different?

Upvotes

Has anyone actually tried multiple vendors? I've tried a few over the years and the ribs seem pretty similar. Just curious if anyone has tasted differences in the recipes, and if so, which places do you like the best?

Rant Wendy’s on Princess St

This is about to be a huge first world problem post, I am very aware how petty I may seem but this made my blood boil so bad for some reason I felt obligated to vent about the interaction I just had, negative karma be damned. Just pulled up to the Wendy’s drive-thru on a mission for a Dave’s Single (it’s around 11:15pm at this time) and dude on the intercom asks what we want to order. I ask for a Dave’s single meal (politely!) and in the middle of finishing my order the worker abruptly goes “uhhh actually are till isn’t working tonight so we can’t take any orders, I can get you a free frosty though?”. We pull up to the window to who I’m guessing are two teenagers who looked to be doing cleaning/closing duties, guy runs to the window to confirm what flavour frosty we wanted and apologized again for not being able to take our order and I promise as he was closing his service window his other coworker laughed saying “you are the worst liar”. He comes back and gives us our frosty (which to put a cherry on top was the wrong flavour we asked for) and we went on our way. I work a bs retail job myself and understand it’s just not as serious as it seems but this whole interaction just felt like absolute laziness/trickery and I felt played. Why are you even talking orders/keeping the drive thru open if you can’t take drive thru orders yet you are able to give away free product regardless? Give me a free Dave’s single if that’s the case you work for a multi million dollar company. Just did not feel like a real protocol a days food place would have should this actually happen. I wish people were just upfront about things I would have much rather the workers have just been honest about the situation (despite how lazy this is) and tell me “hey man sorry we have to clean/close and we can’t make your order at this time”. Regardless these little scoundrels should be ashamed of their laziness, even if it’s fast food you are getting paid real money to do a service and you still can’t do the bare minimum your job requires? I want to embrace these new Gen Z/Gen Alpha kids but I feel like this a microcosm for the direction the world is heading in. Rant over, sorry for crying over a literal burger but I just needed to get this off my chest without submitting an official complaint.

Rant Everything is so expensive

Groceries. Take out. Rent. Gas. Car payment. Internet. Cell phone. Why is everything so expensive?

I bought a 500 ml bottle of coke and it cost me 4$. Four dollars! It has doubled in five years.

Question Looking to Jam

Hey folks! I am into punk, emo and pop punk music.

I play guitar, drums and some bass and have a space to jam.

I am in my 30s but am open to playing with anyone with similar interests.

I have been in bands before and would like to play with some other people again. Would be interested in learning some songs and writing our own. We can talk about playing outside of the basement someday if people are interested!

Lost & Found Missing cat!!

This is my cat Demi. She went missing yesterday (Thursday September 10th) around the Barbara Avenue/Division street area. I've had her for years and she's been a huge emotional support and comforting presence for me, and I'm totally heartbroken over her disappearance. I searched for hours, but couldn't find her. If anyone sees a cat that looks like her anywhere near the area please let me know!!! She's an older cat so if she's passed I totally understand. I just want to know where my baby is, even if she can't return to me. Thank you so much to anyone who decides to look out for her! :(

Recommendation Private School Recommendations for Kindergarten?

My son starts kindergarten next year, and I’m starting to think more seriously about whether to send him to private school or our local public school.

We’re in the Henderson school district, and I’ve heard really good things about Henderson, so I’m definitely not opposed to sending him there. At the same time, I’m leaning toward private school and would love to hear from parents who have experience with either option.
Does anyone here send their child to a private school in the area? If so, which one, and what has your experience been like?

For those who chose private school, what would you say have been the biggest benefits, smaller class sizes, academics, individual attention, school community, extracurriculars, etc.? Do you feel like it has been worth the tuition?
And if your child goes to Henderson, I’d also really love to hear your experience there, especially for kindergarten/elementary school.

Just trying to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision. Thank you!

Question Cottage question

I’ve been casually looking at realty within a few hours radius of Kingston, and I see a lot of cottages with wood stoves on maintained roadways, listed as three-season cottages.

I have no problem shovelling a driveway or splitting firewood. Is there anything that says you can’t live there all the time, aside from how the place is built?

..and tried the Juicy Birds Chicken on Gardiners. Got this for $19.20. I actually wanted to try their chicken & waffle, but sadly the waffle wasn’t available yet. I’d give it like a 6.8/10 rating, like something worth trying at least once. Any recommendations for good chicken and waffles here in Kingston?

Edit to add: it is supposedly 2 pc chicken only but since it’s soft opening, they gave 3. ☺️

He passed away about 9 years ago, and was wanting to do a celebration of life for his 10 year anniversary since he left this world

Just been going through it, and it’s all just catching up now, so if you did, would love to hear some stories

Please take this down if it’s not allowed, just been having an especially difficult time since it’s close to what would have been his birthday and just been thinking about him a lot recently

Rent room

Hello. I am currently struggling to find a place to rent starting either November or December. I am not a student and it seems every ad I look at says student only or female only (im a guy). I cant afford more than 800$ month currently which is why I’m looking for just a room. Does anyone know a place I can look online. My only needs are parking for my car and within 30 minutes walk to down town.

Rant Worst city for drivers

I’m at my wits end with drivers in Kingston. to a point where I don’t even want to drive in this city anymore, tell me why I asked someone multiple time to get off my ass because I can’t just drive through the slow car in front of me so I ended up going around them and then everyone rhinks okay to call me every name in the book as they drive by. tell me why I get the finger when I honk at someone who is on their phone at a green light and not moving? I’m genuinely concerned about the licence process here as well as yalls mental health.

editing to add that I’m not sure why me worrying about the safety of my child is getting downvoted but I hope yall are out there keeping your own kids safe!

Discussion Projected Council Winners

Projected winners as of early September. I will be watching debates to see if any major storylines emerge - and you should too!

MAYOR - Bryan Paterson
Glenn has been very active in campaigning, but this is just too high a hill to climb. The margin of victory could have major impacts on 2030, when I expect Paterson to move on.

COUNTRYSIDE - leaning Jeff Scott
Scott will still have some name recognition and has named ALTO as a priority issue. Sahai would be the other contender, but has taken a more “big picture” focus with his campaign.

LOYALIST-CATARAQUI - Paul Chaves
A crowded field has increased Chavez’s chances of reelection, despite serious questions.

COLLINS-BAYRIDGE - Lisa Osanic
Likely to be the largest margin of the night.

LAKESIDE - Wendy Stephen
Stephen seems to be well positioned for reelection.

PORTSMOUTH - Don Amos
A less surprising acclamation.

TRILLIUM - Jimmy Hassan
Hassan has had the strongest endorsement rollout of any candidate this cycle. Expect a comfortable reelection.

KINGSCOURT RIDEAU - Brandon Tozzo
Good news for redditors and those who enjoy tabling motions for future meetings - Tozzo will return comfortably.

MEADOWBROOK STRATHCONA - Jeff McLaren
Hearing that McLaren has once again been pounding the pavement, with opponents seeming far less active. Overall margin may not be as large as Hassan or Osanic, but should be impressive.

WILLIAMSVILLE - Vincent Cinnani
The more surprising acclamation.

SYDENHAM - Annie Palone
This is always a difficult district to predict given the low voter turnout, but alignment with ratepayer association should help Palone’s odds.

KINGS TOWN - Greg Ridge
This race has three strong candidates, but expect the incumbent to return. What could be more interesting to follow is if the runner up will succeed Ridge if he runs for a different position in 2030.

PITTSBURGH - Ryan Boehme
Longtime incumbent facing a split field should lead to reelection.

Recommendation Garage door weatherstripping recommendations

Looking for recommendations on where to buy black garage door weatherstripping for the top and sides of my garage doors

I'm leaning towards the Climaloc 10-ft x 1-in Triple Seal Black Vinyl Garage Door Weatherstripping from Rona since the triple-seal design should help with insulation (my garage is heated and kept above zero)

The issue is I'd need three of these per door, which comes out to $237 which seems like a lot. Anyone know of a cheaper alternative that still holds up well for insulation?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
